Workers of New York, Unite! For too long we have cowered underneath the heel of those that would oppress us! For too long have we allowed the reactionaries to hold office, to tell us their blasphemy and their reactionary lies! They work with the corporate and the rich crime boss, the fat and the aristocrats! This ends now! We shall drive them back, back to the forests of old from whence they came, back to their mansions of gold and their mistresses in furs! Then we shall take their gold and their furs, and redistribute it among the common man! No longer shall we be forced to work under the boss who steals our food, the magnate that fixes their prices, the men who would rob us, beat us, and reduce our dignity! To them, I say this:

Your time is coming.

To you my comrades, I say, "Rise up! Throw down your chains and your shackles of oppression! Rise up I say, and the world will fear your Red might like no other! For a revolution is indeed coming, one that will make the ruling classes tremble!"

The Year of 1911

Onorata Societa

Don Pieroginni takes his two sons and his wife to Bagheria, Sicily for an overdue vacation. He leaves Madame Ambrosia in charge of the Onorata Societa. This leaves the madame in de facto control of the entire criminal enterprise.

This saves Madame Ambrosia alot of time and energy in finding someone to manage and expand Onorata Societa interests back in the motherland. Essentially hinting the idea to her boss, Don Pieroginni happily accepts, using it as a reason to flaunt his newfound wealth and hold large family gatherings under the guise of "finding new recruits". The end result being a busy and happy Don and a power woman, now known throughout the Onorata Societa as "The Madame".

The Madame continues to take a direct interest in the running of the Societa's whores. Requiring all brothels to have certain health, safety and beauty standards, the end result is the cleanest and best whorehouses in America. The net income is mitigated however by the costs involved in maintaining such standards.

The Grand Society of Lawmen

Loses Mr. Vissers, perhaps the last non-Anglican within the society and the last member of importance. The GSL begins to slowly fade into obscurity due to a lack of members and the strength of the FAL.

The Free Association of Lawmen

Hohlenberg, in possession of a powerful, organised, and willing association of officers begins expansion into the Brooklyn. Following some private discussions with the Police Chief of Brooklyn (a holdover from the old Jones' Faction), Police Chief Edward Adams joins the FAL as Chairman of Brooklyn and brings with him the remnants of the Jones' Faction into the FAL, a coup for Hohlenberg.

The FAL, doing their job, spearheads a crackdown in crime in Queens and Brooklyn. They were highly successful, eradicating budding crime within the Ukrainian enclave in Brooklyn as well as taking down the South Brooklyn Gang, a Jewish gang tied to the Jewish Mafia. Hohlenberg is lauded by many within the NYPD (outside the FAL even) as the greatest crimefighter in New York City since Alfred Jones.

Vissers, newly joined to the NYPD, continues his search into Italian-tied corruption in higher ranked police officers. This has no real effect, as the vast majority if not all high ranked officers in the NYPD are no longer connected to the Italians. Visser's focus on the Italians continues calls by the Italian political cadre about undue bias within the police against Italians.

Vissers tries to invest more money into the his building, however the man carrying his money was shot and robbed, losing the vast majority of his money.

The Kellys

Brian, as per usual, tries to meet with a playable character. However the other playable character has mentioned nothing about Brian and so that equals bad planning. Brian ends up doing nothing about nothing.

Brian Kelly buys 5000$ in Colt stocks, which proceeds to double in price due to the securing of the Colt 1911 contract with the US military. He then sells the stocks and get a bunch of money. However Brian quickly realises that while he is paying off his debts, Ford continues to eat his automotive profit and Colt now has an extra 5000$ in which to invest into their own businesses.

2nd of September Movement

Achilles Greco, sends 5k to an individual of importance. It worked.

Greco then invests another 10k into the "factory" in order to expand production and "earn money". Now, Greco is an awful Communist, but starts to make money off of the expanding production of the factory. Then end result is Greco abusing the worker and stealing their labour for his own gain, in which he will use to liberate the worker from their slavery. It's all very doublethought.

John Ainsworth, a new member to the 2nd SM, goes to the bank to borrow money. However it seems he doesn't realise that it is not only Greco, but all of the 2nd September Movement that is banned from borrowing money. The good news is that John swindles 1,000$ from a small and stupid bank, the bad news is that he can no longer borrow.

Ainsworth then goes to the Achilles Factory to buy weaponry. In a scene of incredible irony, Ainsworth (a communist) buys his weapons from Greco (another communist) who uses the factory using standard capitalist techniques. It's all very wibbly wobbly.

Tammany Hall

Edward, seeing the increasingly large Armenian and (to a lesser extent) Russian enclaves in Manhattan begins catering to them using soup kitchens and small make work projects. The result is a strengthening of support for Edward across both ethnic groups, which will serve nicely if he desires a large political office.

Seeing that these enclaves support him, he uses his influence to gain new underlings, securing a dozen men to act as campaigners and a dozen more to act as "interests", the definition of which is left up to Edward.

John Myborough sends Tim Horton to invest in more real estate. Unfortunately for him Horton, a known associate to Myborough, was shot and killed by a young man in response to his actions in Hell's Kitchen.

Myborough, suitably distraught, begins an intensive clearing of Hell's Kitchen in response. Using overwhelming force, he manages to defeat many of the gangs in the region (resulting in over 30 police officer deaths due to gun fights and revenge attacks). After a year the region is essentially free of crime (or it's hiding at least) and the NYPD grunts in Manhattan among the most hardened and professional in the United States.

Boss Murphy, after a long power vacuum left by the removal of Boss Crocker, seizes control of Tammany. All well kept and taciturn man, he is dedicated on turning Tammany from a den of corruption into a legitimate political entity within New York City and New York State.

Ukrainian Mafia

Simon, in a decision to properly utilise the AUA, decides to patronise a young artist named Abram Molarsky. Bringing him to Tompkinsville, Molarsky paints a series that become later the definitive marking of the beginning of Ukrainian-American culture. Though not appreciated much outside the AUA during his time, they bring much attention to the AUA following his death.

Attempts to expand criminally in Brooklyn fail in the wake of FAL campaigns. However it does expand culturally to control the enclave in entirety.

Much more successful was the bringing of New York Times Journalist Abraham Knowles to Tompkinsville, to show the terrible state of New York's ethnic slums. Taken aback by the poverty, Knowles agrees to write an article on the matter, hoping to bring it to national and local attention.

The United Irishmen

Mickey O'Malley is found dead inside of his house in late April. Police find the death due to alcohol poisoning and asphyxiation. The United Irishman, held by his hand, falls apart into scrabbling factions following the release of the news of his death.

The Engels Family

Joseph Engels, a recent immigrant from Germany, sets up a communist newspaper named "The Word of the Worker". However that is a bit overstating it, as "The Worker" is more of a hand printed leaflet series. However it is actually kinda, somewhat successful in gaining him attention from the proletariat.

After this Engels hires rabblerousers to bring the knowledge of the coming revolution to average worker. Well, by rabblerousers one means his cousin Hans who is paid 5$ to stay out of the pub and talk about communism. However he does gain a single follower, which is better then nothing.

Other

Yutke Zacharian somehow convinces two rather dull and large Jewish men to protect him for a minimal payment.

These men come in handy when the small jew tries to intimidate the gangs in Hell's Kitchen. The men, under an immense amount of stress and not believing the small man's claims of protecting them from the police, simply beat him up before he could draw his gun and rob him (and his bodyguards) before dumping out on the street.

Ehlers, after a year of keeping quiet due to the Teamster's Case, pops his head out to begin investigating crime in the East Bronx. He is generally successful and earns himself the respect of his squad.

However his underworld contacts take some hits, the campaigns in Brooklyn, Queens, Spanish Harlem and Hell's Kitchen result many of his contacts to be arrested and detained. The result is a slightly smaller informant chain.

Immigration and New York City News

Another shirtwaist fire in New York kills 146.

Colt designs and sells the 1911 to the US military, making a large profit and securing a long term contract.

Italo-Turkish War, Turks fleeing the fighting increases the Manhattan Enclave.

Hello all. Just coming by to say if you invest in stock that is bound to go up (such as Colt or Ford) I will roll from now on to see if it makes profit or it loses money.

Y'all are not going to cheat the game :D.

New York Slums National Disgrace

Today I was shown around the small town of Tompkinsville in the borough of Richmond by Mr. Simon Mogilivich, a young man who has become the leader of the Ukrainian Community within New York City. What I saw the state, it was enough to make a more sensitive man cry. You can see men wander aimlessly, poor and desperate, women selling themselves on the corner of the street and dirty street urchins robbing anyone that looks like they have two coppers to rub together. I myself lost my wallet (which I thankfully emptied the day before) during my short time in Tompkinsville. This disgusting sty, shoved into a small twelve square blocks, holds approximately twelve hundred people within it, cheek to cheek in tenements made by absentee landlords. The only organisation of note is Simon, who has established a basic laundry mat and butcher shop to provide the community with some basic necessities like clean clothes and fresh meat. Even when given hope, they have it taken away, as a popular story has that importation magnate Brian Kelly visited to promise jobs last year only to leave and never come back.

However, what is not seen is the presence of any true governmental structure. Following a tiff with the mayoral office, it seems that the rich politicians of Manhattan simply abandoned this poor place. No police patrol the street, no inspectors come this way, no water is pumped and no workmen arrive. Tompkinsville is terra incognita within the political arena of New York City. Is that the state of our politics these days? When an organisation built around the ideals of graft and nepotism hides behind a Jew who has been in office for too many years. What this City needs is a shake up, a wake up. To smell the smelling salts and call for a change in governence. Boss Murphy says he is aiming for a more legitimate Tammany Hall? Prove it.

Italian Politicians in Uproar over NYPD, demand Satisfaction

The state of the NYPD is a disgrace to many minor politicians within Manhattan and the Bronx, as actions cause an uproar. While members like Police Chief Ludwig Hohlenberg actively work to do their job, exemplified by his arrest of Abraham Herzog and dissolution of the South Brooklyn Gang alongside the reduction of all crime in Queens to almost none, this is not universal. On one hand you have John Myborough, who sweeps through counties on whims resulting in the mass arrests of Irishmen and Italians through blunt force. Indeed the Police Commissioner seems to use the police force as a club, beating anyone he doesn't like with it until public outcry requires him to stop having the policeforce die in large amounts or cleans out the area like a unrighteous fire of vengeance. On the other hand you have Jon Vissers, who is a scalpel to Myborough's club. Using investigators, detectives and other versions of modern inquisitors, he cuts out corruption and Italians with equal zeal. Seeing corruption like a Papist sees sin, he cauterises everything he can in an effort to make the NYPD a better place.

Both Jo(h)ns, both good men at heart, but ultimately what is wrong with the NYPD. Italians actively picket police stations in both Manhattan and the Bronx at the behest of their elected officials. Whatever the result, the PR wing of the NYPD has failed in entirely, as the patience of the largest ethnicity within NYC declares against the NYPD. It is unknown the result of these cries, but it is known that the people are making their desires known throughout New York, and they want satisfaction now.

John reads the Opinions page of the Times, usually his favourite newspaper.

Beating criminals... until the area is cleared. Using all we've got to clear corruption. They call this criticism? Perhaps, just perhaps, it's this kind of journalism which turns the New Yorker away from the Police and into the world of crime. Whenever we fight crime, we make enemies, this is clear. Today's lesson might be not to make enemies who have reporters in their pocket.

Rule Change: Because I am desperate and to make it more fair to the players, the following rule has been adopted

~

All IC regarding public policy (pertaining to all characters with the ability to make said policy change) and/or addressing minis will now be taken as an order that does not effect the pm orders.

For example: An IC by the Mayor regarding policy change within the Mayoral office will be taken as an order changing said policy (or at least bringing it to a vote within the specific body if need be).

If you have any questions please pm me on IRC or over the forum

I hereby propose the Bureau of Internal Affais Act, to make the fight against corruption more effective and to clear things up on a legal level:

The Bureau of Internal Affairs Act

- The Bureau of Internal Affairs (henceforth BIA) will be created
- The BIA will be led by a Director, he will be appointed by the Mayor and the Police Commissionair
- The Director of the BIA will have the same rank as the First Deputy Commissionair and he will recieve the same pay as the First Deputy Commissionair
- The BIA will be part of the NYPD, but it will answer directly to the Mayor
- The BIA will be tasked with fighting corruption in the New York Police Department and the New York City Government
- The BIA will be given the same funding as the Organized Crime Bureau, to organise the new unit - to recruite police officers and detectives, to create a working administration etc.
- The BIA will have 5 units:
BIA HQ Unit, headed by the Director, tasked with coordinating the other units in their fights against corruption
BIA NYPD Unit, headed by an Inpector, tasked with fighting corruption in the New York Police Department
BIA NYC Government Unit, headed by an Inspector, tasked with fighting corruption in the New York City Government
BIA Special Person Unit, headed by an Inspector, tasked with screening powerfull individuals who might be corrupt, it will also screen every person before he takes public office
BIA Legal Matters Unit, headed by an Inspector, tasked with solving the BIA's legal matters - prosecuting etc.
- The Director of the BIA will appoint the Inspectors of the BIA with the Mayor's and the Police Commissionair's approval
- The current employees of the Directorate of Internal Affairs will be given a promotion or the same job in the Bureau of Internal Affairs

Jonathan Eduard Vissers, Director of Internal Affairs of the New York Police Department

Workers of New York! Rejoice, for the reactionary newspapers of the bourgeoisie have finally shown the truth of the struggles of the classes! Perhaps some are seeing the true light of the proletariat, but nonetheless our struggle still remains! All across america, your comrades in arms live in similar conditions as Tompkinsville, and yet they receive no aid in this dire crisis, no praise from the newspapers for their struggles and tribulation, no succor from the fat robber barons who, with a wave of their greedy hands, could wash away all the troubles that afflict us! From San Fransico in the west, to our fine city of New York in the east, to the old reactionary and oppressive leaders of the old world. Oh, avarance, worst of all sins to take hold of a man! Ye, who corrupts innovative souls, who turns men's hearts to stones and women to idle pursuits! The greed of the bourgeoisie is the greatest enemy of the revolution, my comrades, for they will never stop in their corruption and their grafts, their creating of chains of slavery! Only when we have cleansed the world of this disease, will we have reached the paradise foretold in the works of Marx!

((As a reminder, TJDS' organisation needs to be approved by Marshall and Maxwell))

Inspector Visser's initiative is noteworthy, however I am unsure whether it would be a good idea to further expand the witchhunt against - as I'm sure it will be construed - Italians. I will be having a conference with the Mayor about this subject within short and I will be asking his opinion on the matter as it arises. Expect the final word on this and other matters from him.

There is one thing I wish to say to the... rampant mob out there before that, though. It is the solemn duty of the NYPD to protect and serve every law-abiding citizen in New York City. It will never be our intent to hunt down a certain demographic, be it Italians, Irish or other immigrants, youngsters, businessmen or politicians. However, the matter has been brought to my attention now, and should we find that our intent does not translate into reality - those responsible will receive a punishment nothing short of discharge.

- Commissioner John Myborough

The current estimated amount of New York Police Department Officers who have connections with the Illegal Sector is 60%. It is unacceptable that the Greatest City of the United States possesses so much corruption and we should shame ourselves for not doing what is needed to destroy corruption. The Directorate of Internal Affairs has lowered the amount of corruption with 12%, but we cannot fight the other corruption because we do not possess the manpower, the funding nor orginasation to fight the corruption, thus the BIA needs to be created, to fight the corruption in the New York Police Department and the New York Government and to rid us from this plague.

Jonathan E. Vissers

Unfortunately, after reviewing evidence presented to me by the Prosecutor-General of New York City, after speaking with the Mayor and respresentatives of the Italian and Irish communities in this city, I have to conclude that Director of Internal Affairs Jonathan E. Vissers has over the past years put the privileges of his office to use in a rather uncouth manner. While it is for me beyond doubt that Vissers has continually had the war on corruption in mind, his actions have done little else but alienate large parts of our city, to his personal benefit. Presented with this case, I can do nothing else than be true to my words and discharge Jon Vissers from the NYPD. For similar charges, I will also have to fire the 8 police officers and 2 detectives who are connected to Vissers' policy of discrimination against Italian Americans.

Let us hope that this brings an end to the disproportionate police brutality and discrimination of recent years.

Mayor Levinsky, if I may; the position of Director of Internal Affairs has proven to be an unsuccessful one. It was founded to end corruption in the NYPD, but with no way to ensure that the Director is of sound allegiance, its use is limited and potentially harmful. While seeking for other ways to decrease bribery within the police force, I suggest that we should seek to increase cooperation between civilians and officers of the law. A test for this will be run next year in the recently secured Hell's Kitchen and I shall report my findings to you.

- Commissioner John Myborough

Workers and Comrades of New York, the time has come for us to set aside our petty squabbles and unite under the banner of solidarity! I call upon all those who call themselves Socialists, Communists, or Anarchists to join us in this glorious crusade against the reactionary forces of the bourgeoisie! I hereby form the Peoples Party of America, a party that shall overthrow our oppressors, one that shall attack the cause of all our troubles at its source; Tammany Hall! Whether you be a Union Boss, a Farmer in the field, a Socialist position in the hall, or a worker attempting to provide for his family, I urge you to support your comrades in solidarity!

When a journalist asks what the recently fired Jonathan E. Vissers is going to he answered:

I will leave the New York Police Department and the Free Society of Lawmen, I will not come back, because I do not want to be part of such a corrupt cooperation as the NYPD. It is the second biggest crime family from New York, only Tammany Hall is bigger. I will focus more on my department store and my other business initiatives. I will become a businessman.

Jonathan Eduard Vissers

((I will also create a Family, Vissers Inc.))

On a cold winter morning in December 1911, awaiting the Christmas festivities and frolic, John Myborough sits down to write a letter. He had always been one to fancy business arrangements of various ilk, and on that winter day it was time for one of a legal nature.

Mr. Kelly,

Over the past few years, I have attempted to invest in real estate throughout New York City, in an effort to secure my monetary assets in a long-term investment. While this has made me some money, it has also lost me a close friend and after three years I still find myself not owning any substantial amount of real estate. Therefore, I have begun looking for other ways to invest my money - which brings me here. I have a business proposition to put to you.

Both the automotive and weapon production branches of your company have showed their potential, however I can invest in neither. The Kelly automotive production facility would be beyond my means to invest in, while due to my job I cannot afford to be involved in the production of weaponry; this would create a conflict of interest. However, I am looking to purchase the Imports branch of the Kelly Automotive Company. My interests in the Hudson port area would make this branch a great addition to Johnny Eagle Incorporated.

Now, I understand that your business empire was built on the import of automotive vehicles and that this branch is particularly profitable. Therefore, I am willing to lay down a considerable amount of funds for this purchase. Consider my bid to be $8000.- (eight thousand dollars) in cash, to be paid immediately. It is my understanding that you are a smart businessman, Mr. Kelly, so I believe we should be able to come to an understanding here.

Regards,
John Myborough

John knew very well that his offer of $8000 was rather low, but he wanted to await Mr. Kelly's own proposal. However, as it turned out, the automotive magnate was rather busy buying his friends and family Christmas presents. Over a week, two bids and one hastily written refusal later, Myborough decided it was time to drop all pretense and make a serious offer; one that would certainly close the deal but cost him nearly all the money he worked so hard to get.

Since the year is about to come to a close, I shall make you a final offer. On top of my earlier bid of $12000, I shall add another $10000, provided that the deal is closed this year. This should provide you with the necessary funds for your short term plans, while allowing me to focus on gaining a profit in, say, a decade's time.

- Myborough

Of course, Kelly would accept. Now, it was time to make the investment worthwhile...
