I've just noticed that when the Qarakhanids hold Khiva, it is never called the "Qarakhanid Sultanate", but remains the "Sultanate of Khiva". Neither the Seljuks nor the Samanids seem to have this problem. It's hardly game-breaking, but it's puzzling nonetheless.

Do they have landed relatives as vassals of someone else?

No, I checked.

It's listed in the dynasties file as being Mongol-cultured.

101864 = {
name="Qarakhanid"
culture = mongol
}

Have you checked their culture? I have no idea why it'd be called a Sultanate then instead of a Khanate, but you never know.

They're Turkish so theoretically, it should be called the Qarakhanid Sultanate. I'm not sure if the dynasty's pre-determined culture would matter.

EDIT - Just changed the dynasty's culture to Turkish, looks like it was the dynasty after all.
