The concept of reincarnation, cycle of rebirth, and what is called 'Avatars' of people, all originated in Hinduism in the Vedic period, the general mish-mash of cultural ideas and piety that it was in the bronze age. It was kind of 'borrowed' by newer Indian religions like Buddhists and probably Jains too. However, according to PCGamer article, the reincarnation feature is introduced along with Buddhism.

Does this mean that only Buddhists are going to have reincarnation, or Hindus too?

It would be very unrealistic if Hinduism is left out on a feature that they started, while a breakaway technology-themed, supposedly peaceful religion gets it. :p

I thought 'Avatar' was a thing gods had and nothing to do with reincarnation?

I'm not sure about reincarnation, I'd rather there be as little 'magic' stuff as possible but the flavour of characters thinking they're reincarnations is interesting.

'Avatar' directly translates to a reincarnation in Sanskrit. Someone's 'Avatar' is a reincarnation of the person in question. Till yet, it had been used only for Hindu gods and Buddhist heroes.

I would agree for a realistic reincarnation, or even better if it isn't implemented at all. But it should be in for Hindus if they are putting it in.

From what was described, there won't be any magic in reincarnation events. "Reincarnated" character will just have an option to take traits of dead character and make himself to look more like him.

Eh, actually having reincarnation in the game would be bizarre. Characters could certainly **assume** such and such is a reincarnation of dear departed uncle Harsha, with a relations bonus for the believers. Though I agree Hindu characters should be eligible before Buddhists.

It's similar to the "gates of Hell" or "virgin birth" events. It's always obviously about superstition and people assuming things.

Actually, the idea of reincarnation in Buddhism is very different to that in Hinduism and it doesn't actually come from it. During the time that Buddhism originated, Hinduism was not like it is today. It was essentially Vedism/Brahmanism centred around the Vedas and its rituals. The concept of reincarnation is more of the shramanic path or the heterodox schools like Jainism and Buddhism. These two were the sharmanic philosophies that were competing around the same time and in opposition to the Brahmanism that evolved into Hinduism. Hinduism was heavily influenced by what became Buddhism especially the adoption of certain concepts and monastic orders etc...

One of the misconceptions that people have about Hinduism is that it has remained unchanged and that it is monolithic. Neither are true. Hinduism during the time of Buddha and Mahavira was nothing like the Hinduism it is today.

Reincarnation is different because the concept of the soul is different.

The Buddha did not affirm or deny the existence of a soul. He said that nothing in and of itself is unique. This is a central concept in Buddhism. The concept of anatta - no self. That means there is no permanent soul that gets reincarnated. But it is about mental formations and causes and effects. Your thoughts and attachments reflect to create other thoughts and attachments in another life. It's not a unique soul as such but the consequence of a thought.

Whereas, in Jainism and Hinduism, the soul is an entity that passes from one life to another. Sort of the transmigration of souls in Pythagoreanism or Orphism.

And "Voice of Jesus/Satan". Funny thing about those events, most of them are written in a way, that religious player could believe it and atheist could see as superstition and people going crazy :)

Hindus and Buddhists believe in reincarnation. That does not mean they can demonstrate its practice. It's similar with Christian belief in miracles, or with New Age adherents belief in magic.
