Okay, firstly I'd BETTER get some responses because after doing this research I'll probably never sleep again and I would like that to be worth something at least

I've been working on my mod for AST for some time now (check signature) and have come up with a long list of non-generic names for units (i.e. to replace 1st Royal Mar. Div.) etc. I was wondering what other people would like as names and if you think these are adequate? I'm thinking of expanding this to include many other countries that get less attention, so if you know of a real unit that hasn't been named properly within your country or would like a unit named after some deadly or poisonous animal, please let me know. I'd be more than happy to hear some suggestions and would like to know what you think of the names below and my reasoning behind them.

I've named as many real units as possible otherwise I made up unit names using poisonous and deadly animals for the sake of having semi-real (and really cool) names. These are a mix of REAL and fictitious names I came up with for units. Again, ideas please.

The list is as follows,

The Paratroops are as follows, all of them are real divisions accept for 'Drop Bears' but if you're interested look it up on the internet and you'll get the joke lol.
171st 'Aviation Regiment'
'1st LRRP 'Lurp' Div. 2nd LRRP 'Lurp' Div. 3rd LRRP 'Lurp' Div. 'M Division' 'Z Division' 1st 'Drop Bears Div. 'Special Ops Executive'

'LRRP' is Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol usually made up of 4-6 man teams and go deep into enemy territory and were used in Vietnam but for game's sake I think they'd been fine as used here.

http://www.mythocreatology.com/dropbear.html ahahahaaaa There is some partial truth in the 'drop bear' being used as a secret weapon. But the whole point of it was use for disinformation and scare would-be invaders especially the Japanese during WW II. "Articles" of drop bear attacks was left where the Japs would find them to create fears and rumours. I don't think I will but other such creatures include Yowie, Bunyip, and 'Tasmanian Tigers' (the last Tasmanian Tiger died in captivity in 1938.) Although many have claimed to see this creature, not just in Tasmania but on Australia's mainland as well.

Anyhow,

1st Mar. 'Townsville 2nd' http://snafu-solomon.blogspot.com.au...s-without.html 2nd Mar. 'Platypus Div' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platypus 3rd Mar. 'Salty Crocs' Div. http://www.reptilepark.com.au/animalprofile.asp?id=64 4th Mar. 'Bull Shark' Div. http://australianmuseum.net.au/Bull-...enciennes-1839 5th Mar. 'Irukandji' Div. (thought to be the most poisonous creature in the world) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irukandji_jellyfish 6th Mar. 'Blue Ring Octopus' Div. http://www.aims.gov.au/docs/projectn...d-octopus.html 7th Mar. 'White Pointers' Div. http://www.fearbeneath.com/media/pho...-white-sharks/ (need I say more???) 8th Mar. 'Stone Fish' Div. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synanceia 9th Mar. 'Tiger Shark' Div. http://australianmuseum.net.au/Tiger...n-Lesueur-1822 10th Mar. 'Box Jellyfish' Div. http://www.outback-australia-travel-...jellyfish.html 11th Mar. 'Bluebottle' Div. http://www.australianfauna.com/bluebottlejellyfish.php 12th Mar. 'Sea Snake' Div. http://www.mesa.edu.au/sea_snakes/default.asp

My mountaineer names are as follows; the first few are REAL units. The others are just made up by me.

'Far East' Company., 28th Commonwealth Brigade, '1st A.T.F' 1st Aust. Taskforce, 2nd Mtn 'Funnelwebs' Div. http://australianmuseum.net.au/Funne...Spiders-group/ 3rd Mtn 'Brownsnake' Div. http://snakeprotex.com.au/snakefacts...he-brown-snake 4th Mtn 'Taipan' Div. http://www.reptilepark.com.au/animalprofile.asp?id=112 5th Mtn 'Tigersnake' Div. http://australianmuseum.net.au/Tiger-Snake (last known kill, 2003 in Melbourne suburbia) 6th Mtn 'Deathadder' Div. http://www.reptilepark.com.au/animalprofile.asp?id=106 7th Mtn 'Dugite' Div. http://www.perthzoo.wa.gov.au/animal...ounter/dugite/ 8th Mtn 'Red Belly Black' Div. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-bellied_black_snake 9th Mtn 'Mulga Snake' Div. http://www.reptilepark.com.au/animalprofile.asp?id=113 10th Mtn 'Red Backs' Div. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redback_spider 11th Mtn 'Bull Ant' Div. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myrmecia_gulosa (last known human kill: Australian farmer 1988) 12th Mtn 'Cassowary' Div. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassowary (Last known human kills: 2 in 1926, a pet dog in 1995

Have to find a place for these somewhere...

NOTE: These are to replace generic and incorrect names in game. If you know a historically correct name, for a nation-specific unit please tell me.

I'm confused about what your trying to achieve? do you want to replace the generic "1st Infantry Division" with historically accurate names or just random names that sound cool?

Usually (in the case of the UK atleast) a Division's troops are gathered from too wide an area meaning only regiments are given titles associated with the formations geographic location i.e. The British 1st Infantry Division contains the 2nd Infantry Brigade which includes 1st BN Loyal Regiment, 2nd BN North Staffs and the 1st BN King's Shropshire Light Infantry.

If you just wanted to give less generic cooler names then knock yourself out :)

Thanks man. I'm trying to rename the generic units and give them correct names. If I can't get correct names I'd rather use deadly animals or "cool" names instead. As I said for Australia, we only have one real Marines division and they're not even 5 years old. So I have to make the rest up. Correct ship names are good to. I managed to get all RAN ships so if you know of any English/British ones missing or some such other? I'd be glad to add them in to.

I made a mod just for myself a while back that changed all the "commando" divisions (like paratroopers, marines and mountain) along with cavalry into "Brigades" rather than divisions, by which i mean i nerfed their stats to about 1/3 their original edited their descriptions and so on then cut their manpower and build time requirements again by about 1/3 to better represent the fact that a full division of Paratroopers for example was and is a rare thing far more common are brigades, battalions and regiment sizes. In that situation it'd be much easier to find historic names for units such as the British "1st Air landing Brigade" and the "Red Devils" of the 1st Parachute brigade. Other than that you will just have to come up with a bunch of random hopefully thematic names :)

Thanks, I never thought of that! I've just named whole units and left ''Reg." as the name on the ends...

It was part of a cold war scenario i was making in which i needed Western Powers to have a bunch of troops deployed around the globe in places like Africa and the Far East to fight colonial wars where an entire infantry division would be a bit overkill :)

I replaced Cav with a thing called a "Reconnaissance Brigade" which was about 1200 men in light vehicles with light artillery and so on and then replaced mountain infantry with "Light Infantry" which had similar stats to recon brigades with less heavy equipment and made small powers (like newly independent countries) only build light infantry. I gave both light infantry and recon brigades massive buffs to movement in terrain and made it so a full regular infantry division could barely operate in jungles. Worked pretty well so i expanded it to airborne and marine divisions - i also tried tinkering with carry weights so you could deploy 3 marine brigades in a troop carrier :p

How did you increase their carriage weight? Every time I try it reverts back to 1. It's not as though I make it above 2 either.

Decrease the transport weight of the units - don't increase the carry capacity of the planes or ships

Interesting! This could be good for the D-Day landings to. Might start chipping away at all of them hehe

This is still very much alive... I'll be uploading the .csv as soon as I get a chance (almost completed)

Sorry to say, although I have been working on this I had several problems to overcome first... I have fixed all the errors and will be adding more names than you ever thought imaginable including Allied aeroplanes from Fighters to Bombers, "D-Day Doll", "Hello Hiro", "Burning Bitch" "Ace in The Hole" "Aluminium Overcast" and many more! I'm trying to compile a full list of all these aircraft and hope to do so before uploading (my now error free) file full of said names. Here's to hoping it won't take overly long!

Unfortunately I can't quite think of any names for other country's units, as I do not know much about them.
But if I have any nightmares about evil spiders, I will share my story.:)
