Hello dearest lord mayors and wali-emirs,

Is it possible for a ducal merchant republic to acquire a kingdom? The Hansa and the Most Serene Republic of Venice are king-tier, but the titles are titular, and when I tried to grant a spare kingdom to a vassal republic as a sultan, it wouldn't let me. I also noticed that republics can't usurp kingdoms.

So, are the king-republics limited to the couple that are present from the start? Or should I have tried it as an emperor/badshah instead of a sultan? I would've liked to see the Most Serene Republic of Greece flourish under the ottoman dynasty...

That's interesting. So I could just transfer/grant counties to the republic and wait for the wali-emir to make himself a king?

That's what I had to do. In one case, I had to usurp a king title from a foreign power, and then destroy it so my vassal republic could make it himself. So he was pissed off at me for destroying the title, even though I did it solely so he could hold it.

I find it obnoxious you're not allowed to simply give them the title directly. Same thing with theocracies.

One last question. I presume that merchant leagues can have duchies as vassals, right? But can they vassalize... merchant republics????

Also, just the other day, I came across an AI-created Merchant League of Italy...

Nope, Asthe king tier republic vassalizes a duchy tier republic, that republic loses its patricians and becomes like any other one you already founded by conquest.

I just resort to this to avoid the stupid mechanics:
give_title k_whatever the_doge's_id_#
"charinfo 1" will turn on/off debug info such as character ID #'s

The Pope once granted me (The Hansa) an invasion CB on the HRE. Hilarity ensued until I tried to convert to EU IV. The HRE was imported alright, but as soon as I unpaused the game I was thrown from the throne, because I was a republic. So sad :(
