Uhh it is very demanding mod but perhaps I will change its name for Total Unrealistic. Fighting France is awfull. When after 2 months I finally managed to break their lines and capture Paris (still cannot pocket their main forces, they are too mobile, infantry '18 is faster then my combined armor/motor, every province I have to capture many times and in the end many times I loose) suddenly appeared french divisions landing on Dutch beaches behind the front. Not to mention about many many (too many) english squadrons bombing my armies. What more? All Norway begun to rise rebelions. Event with peace with them haven't occured though I choosed option Quisling for prime minister. I'm afraid not many my armies will stay alive untill Barbarossa.

Hi. Thank you for your feedback.
First of all; Germany isnt as easy as other TRP nations (e.g. lile SOV and USA). For a successful german gameplay you need a good buildup and a strong army. I guess that you have problems with France because your army is lacking aerial and amoured power. Try to enforce your buildup. Spend all your manpower into troops. When you are allowed to build tanks (with the end of Czechoslovakia) you should bring a lot of tanks on the field because they are tough enough to break into France. A player of a multiplayer group was able to eliminate France in 1939.
So it is not impossible but you need a strong and well prepared army and an solid buildup nation.

Hi. First of all, excuse me if my English is not very good.
I have a problem, I don´t know if someone else has the same or I'm doing something wrong. I play with Germany, and I took military control of all my allies.
All runs ok, except for the Italian Navy. They are crazy, they do what they want and don´t obey my commands!!!
I have problems executing amphibius assaults, moving ships to another zone or simply rebasing! Sometimes they obey, sometimes go to another place.
The problem is only with the Navy, not with air or ground forces.
Do you have suffer the same problem? I've not tested with vanilla version or another mod, so perhaps this mod is not guilty:)
Ah, the mod is really incredible, I like it very much!

I was trying to do my way to war very carefully, and as historical as possible. I waited with attack untill 10 may 40, and had really big number of combined armies, attacking through Ardens. SS panzerdivisions attacked through Netherland while my paratroopers landed and took Rotterdam. All my economy is working on production army from 1938 (earlier - factories, I built about 60, AA and some radar stations). 3 producion lines of motorised, 8 lines of infantry39 and 3 lines of armored, all with brigades (mixed). I had 5 HQ with SPAA under feldmarschals. I had to dedicate some IC for 2 lines of garrisons with MP to occupy Poland (there are rebelions very fast) so all my line divisions are on western front except few mountains div conquering Norway. I had more then 120 divisions. Nederland surrendered after 4 days, then Belgium - maybe 2 weeks later. Then I took Luxemburg, Sedan and turned to the English Channel with my panzerkorps. But every break I made in their lines was plugging very fast , wherever I run my tanks - french infantry was faster there and plenty of them. I kept pression in the north, took Dunkerque, I broke Maginot line attacking Metz from all three Zigfirid provinces. They were loosing but still were able to put new divisions on my way. It was until triggered Vichy event (France has lost 20% of teritory) in August. But before I had two french and one New Zealand amphibious assaults in few regions of Nederland. When I swept them all and had a look on my looses I was shocked: it costed me more then half milion soldiers. I'm afraid to continue this war :)
edited: my aerial was: 3x5 TACs with escort, 2x5CAS with escorts, 3x5interceptors, 2x5 fighters all working all time until loosing50% and 1x1 long rage using for reconessance only

Well. The fast french infantry is a problem caused by the DH map. The DH map isnt very good for a war against france because the distances between the french homeland provinces is very very short. You can move troops in a few hours from one side to the other side of the front. Not sure what we can do here. BUT it is still possible to beat france. I had no real problem. It is a material battle but with a lot of hard units it is still possible. For a detailed review i would need your saves to see the battle in real.

Rommel, TRP.

After few weeks of playing with DH I've found that so many provinces on the map causes me more problems than fun. Except that one you mentioned above, another thing that making battles more challenging is that player need much more divisions to pocket enemy (every of many little province needs a stack of divisions sufficient to survive enemy counter-strikes). There are although economic obstacles: much more provinces needs to be antipartisant protected, needs to have anti aircraft instalations, there are so many beaches in France where I have to build coastalforts and locate there a lot of divisions to defend... Life with bigger provinces was easier  I think maybe one day I will experiment with building_costs file to start build adequate military power earlier :)
The fact is that my 120 divisions faced with about 150 french divisions to say nothing about Belgian and Dutch:). Historicaly the advantage was on German side
War with Poland was much more realistic

For planning my build up as GER I found this post quite helpful:

@Fabiusz: For one of our latest MP games, i did a buildup test run with GER...finally ending up with playing ITA :D . Nevertheless, the result looked promising.
- IC buildup (+ reinvestments) until mid-1938, last builds ending in early 1939 (end of CSR event); but you won't be able to invest all of your IC after 1937 (end of second build run at latest):
- one modern HQ 39 (+engineers)-serial run beginning in 1937 should give you enough HQs until Barbarossa; same for interceptors and multi-role-fighters model 1937 (4 serial runs in total; i prefer 3:1; you might need less against the AI) and perhaps some CAS (1 series, but not mandatory; may also be built later)
- infantry and tactical bomber builds beginning in mid-1938; planes ending in early 1939 already!
- at least 6 serial runs of tank divisions as soon as unlocked + enough motorized infantry for CA bonus
- end goal for 'Danzig or War': 6 armored divisions + 6 coming up until October; about 100 to 120 infantry divisions (may be partially without brigades at that time if necessary) with at least 12 serial runs still running; special units according to individual preferences (1 or 2 paras + transport planes)
- naval builds secondary, but you should complete your BCs and CAs and some additional DDs at least for naval superiority in the Baltic Sea
- research: 'everything' besides carriers and strategic/naval bombers in 1936 and 1937; early research in 1938 for 1938 armored divisions and 1939 infantry; in 1939 for land doctrines, industrial techs, interceptors/MRF 1940 and artillery 1940
- push your stockpiles to the limit beginning in 1938

You will build infantry until early 1942 and then go for armored and motorized units only because until then, your manpower reserves will be depleted (at about 250 MP left).

Of course, you may greatly deviate from this guideline. In our current MP game, GER even managed to create a carrier fleet until 1940. But this will come at a cost for sure.

Edit about modernization: Build modern units, modernize serial builds as soon as a new model is ready (if you want to keep up the run), modernize your army to 1936 level as soon as 1939 model has been researched and focus your efforts on the units you need most until mid-1942. After that, you should have enough IC left for general modernization.

Edit 2: One long transport- and convoy-run each beginning in 1937 could also come in handy sooner or later.

I'm sure it is the most effective way to win the game but personally I like to buid AA, which with radar stations, are very successfull againsts enemy's bombers; I want to have some more airport and naval bases or expand existing, although I like to have historicaly existing landforts alongside Polish border, it is this side of the game which is almost negligible due to the fact theese constructions are too expensive and require to long time.

We changed the building time and costs for fortress because it should impossible e.g. for France to build a full Maginotline from the Mediterranean coast to the coast of the North Sea. It was a balance problem in multiplayer games and a problem basing on the fact that France needed 10 years for the "real" Maginotline.
By the way: we will see what we can do for the german eastern defending lines. The problem is that there are limited information available about this fortifications. Perhaps you will see a german "eastern fortification system" in the future. Thank your very much for the feedback.

I think there are some informations and you can even visit bunkers http://www.historytours.de/Laender-...reise-zum-Oder-Warthe-Bogen-in-Polen::57.html I suppose building should be cheaper and faster, they were important points of Germany defence politic: anti-aircraft instalations, Atlantic Wall builded in France 41-44 not ended, but if Maginot Line has 10th level - atlantic wall should have at least 2-3, Gustav-Linie with Monte Cassino, Pommernwall, Siegfried-Linie which Allies feared so much... Theese fortifications I think should be built by player during game but theres no time or it is wasting of valuable IC

Is it not possible to scale the building time and costs of forifications? Level 1 and 2 cheap and fast (small bunkers and pillboxes), 4 to7 medium and 8 to10 expensive and slow (komplex heavy bunker systems with heavy in build artillery).

As far as i know there is no "scaling" for building in HoI.
Well. With the TRP values it is possible to build fortifications but u need more time. A Gustavline or a Ostpreußenschutzstellung or a Atlantikwall werent as strong or deep as the Maginotline or the italian Alps fortifications. And defending lines like the Siegfriedline or the Oder-Warthe-Stellung were outdated in 1944. It is a difficult problem and we will look at it but we cant say what we will do or what will be possible.

On the bunker discussion, is it possible to specify different kind of bunkers, like you can with units? This way you could make the maginot line a unique "building".

Just because of the long buildtimes i rarely build bunkers although i always start to build the atlanticwall.

While the DH devs are preparing for the 1.04 release, we're doing some test runs, we're having talks about the implementation of new engine features into TRP and we're finally finishing our big team MP game so that we may draw some conclusions.

During the last few months, we already created several new incentives on the european theatre, including diplomatic events, a speed-based soviet IC relocation and a simulated convoy warfare for our Lend-Lease/Cash & Carry event chains.

Indeed. :)

Current status: Handsoff test runs, mp game evaluation & discussion of newly introduced misc settings

Hey DS EJ and I were having a bad time trying to get The Grand Campaign to work on 1.04 DH. Just doing what the Dev Diary said did not do it. We tried a lot of things last night and today. Then I said to EJ hey we are missing something from DH Full. So he put our mod on top of a copy of DH Full minus the config file and then copied these three files from there...then copy from the tgc config folder the mods.csv,unitnames.csv and tech names.csv into the new config folder. That did it. No idea how it did it but it did. He is working on updating the mod now. So if all else fails that should work. Good luck guys.
