How to call crusades?

Is it possible to make the pope call a crusade? I've tried hard all game as Denmark to protect the Iberian catholic nations to prevent them the Muslims from conquering France. But it's getting pretty hard with their doom stacks. Is it possible for the pope to call a crusade and make all countries go to war with the Moors?

Havn't seen the option to ask or command the pope to go on a crusade.
But what you CAN do for the catholic nations in Iberia is: Declare a holy war, and give the conquered lands to the catholics, in the hope they grow to become stronger to kick out the Moors

You can call crusade by inheriting the caliphate. At least prior to 1.06, not sure about now.

A (catholic) crusade? by inheriting the (muslim) caliphate? And didn't you have to be a direct descendant from the Prophet to inherit the Caliphate? How do you do this as a Danish King?

It would be nice if you had good relations with the pope to have an option to dispatch a trusted courtier to suggest the pope call a crusade against a specific target. Success gets you more prestige, failure gets you more prestige loss, and if you don't join the whole Christian world thinks you're a coward, maybe -100 penalty with the pope. Coz that'd be pretty low.

Thiril: here's how we did it:

1. Pick a random zealot girl (but even normal will likely do), marry her to a landless person with a claim to caliphate (or even a heir maybe).
2. Invite her to your court (this is where zealot plays: she hates her liege and will easily accept). Her husband moves in with her.
3. Pay him, ask him to convert, kill her, marry him materlinearly to someone of your dynasty, have them bear kids.
4. Force claim (or kill Caliph if your guy is a heir).
5. Kill new caliph, have the kid inherit, make the kid your heir, kill yourself, have the kid inherit. Kid will be a catholic caliph.

This allows to call Christian crusades, not Jihads. You have new CBs when declaring wars - Crusade for <kingdom>. The message about how pope has issued a crusade will pop up. And I only did this on 1.05, no idea about 1.06.

Why not have the option to 'suggest' a crusade if you control an antiopope? Of course this would have to be balanced by adding some harsh taxes (piety/prestige/gold cost for suggesting) to it.
