My setup:
XP sp3, dutch
Intel Core Duo 6600 @ 2.40Ghz
NVIDIA Geforce 9600 GT
4 GB RAM

My game freezes up after a few minutes of game time (in this case mission 3 tutorial, NATO). The 3D screen below and the time seem to freeze, but i can still navigate to submenus and hear the sound ongoing on the background. Happy bug-hunting!

I did not found the TTG COMM file in the specified folder.

As a side-note, i never found the COMMS file you mention in your sticky in this sub-forum:

You might be interested, i tried mission 3 NATO tutorial again, and crashed again after just a few minutes. This is what i do chronologically:

* Send the AWACS to the South-West of the carrier in a new pattern
* Send of two fighters from the carrier (as proposed by the tutorial)
* Give the Sub a move or attack command

When i check back on my fighters, it all seems to have frozen up. No TC used.

Important!!

I might have found something here. My game seems to run normal now!?

To check things out, I turned of my anti-virus. It's AVG Free edition, and I could recall it checks on files that change etc. So when I turned it of completely (extra > advanced > temporary shut-down), I could play the NATO tutorial 3 mission. I played it for about 20 mins flawlessly, and then turned it off to report here.

Might be worth looking into! I'm trying out another (longer) game later tonight, with anti-virus turned off.

AVG and some other anti-virus packages seem to use a specific heuristic method to check on files. EvE Online had the same problem when they launched their new game launcher recently.

I just added the path to the Naval War game to AVG's Resident Shield exceptions list, but unfortunately i have no time to check the game out to see if it's really working 100%, as I have another engagement to go to :( More tonight.
 
Lol, well I couldn't resist and tried another game with the AVG turned off. Got freezing again after 10 mins this time, so it seems it's definately not the anti-virus. Sorry if this might have taken up your time/effort. I'll shut up now
 
It may be an extreme thing to do, but if all else fails delete your anivirus and then try it.

Reason being, one time I got Bitfender, and added all my games to the exclusion list, turned on "game mode" and paused virus protection while playing. For some reason, some games would crash and run really slow. So after trying a hundred things, it still happened all the time.

So the last I could think of is ununstalling it, and it cured my problems.. I then switched back to Kaspersky. There had to be still something going on in the background, even when I took all those measures.
 
I had a similar issue with LogMeIn once. When i installed it, everything with graphics started moving in slow motion until I managed to remove some of its drivers.

All in all: it appears we have the freeze bug with Windows XP SP3. We're working to fix it.
