((That's all we got?))

Thank you for your support Senor Armando. Together with the rest of the Nacionales, we can continue this coalition and bring true growth to Chile once more. Now that the war is truely over, the economic policies of myself and Presidente Romano should finally take off and bring us out of this stand still we find ourselves in as of now. I call upon all true Nacionales and patriots to continue this coalition. I will support any reform Presidente Romano sees as needed right now, though I myself personaly support the introduction of State Controlled Unions, to bring further incentive to working in the factories.

((It seems like some people people have the wrong idea. We can't get Free Press yet, only State Controlled. Right TH?))

((Just to clarify, that is my characters middle name. His last name would be Prieto de las Casas, or Prieto for short. Sorry, I'm Cuban so I went for the most ridiculously long Spanish name I could, silly aristocrats and feeling the need to slarify all the last names of their grandparents for the last century.))

With the war won and the patria more consolidated, it would be foolish and brash to suddenly change the government. The wise policies of Presidente Romano and Señor Carrera will help to develop Chile and catapult us into the position of the most powerful nation in South America.

((Oy! I can't believe I didn't fully read your sig. I got to Armando and stopped, thinking "Manuel Armando it is" xD. I changed the original post.))

I agree Senor Prieto, though it is also thanks to the policies of the rest of the Cabinet that we are in such a great position, not just myself and Presidente Romano.

I want to thank all those who have announced their support of my candidacy; this election, Chile will return! We will begin our economic recovery, we will return power to the individual, and reject the notion that the State is the key force in the economy!

My presidency will lead to a liberalization of the press; a nation cannot remain free unless the media is as well. We will not, and cannot, allow the State to dominate the press. We;ve seen the mismanagement of the market, why would we want to cede more power to it!

As well, my presidency will be a period of rebuilding. Our nation has gone through so much over the course of fifteen years, and we must begin repairing, expanding infrastructure, and creating bonds with our new lands and citizens. With our new, more liberal, government, we can better accomplish that.

Let us build a stronger Chile! Let us rebuild our glorious Nation! Let us remain true to la Revolucion! Let us support Freedom!

((Ricardo, you might want to not promise getting rid of State Controlled Press, seeing as how it is the only reform in the Press we can make right now. You shouldn't even waste your time saying you want Free Press right now.))

((Really? I though that would change with a new party in power, the old liberal=reform, conservative=not gonna happen, kinda thing... If not, I still support a larger voting bloc (i.e., expand voting to middle-class)))

((Isn't the available reform Censored Press? It is privatization. I guess that would mean opening up the media for investors but keep the power of censorship, so it is privatization.))

((Regardless, I want to move the press as far to free as possible. Censored press isn't wonderful... but it's a start))

Ladies and gentlemen, citizens of this glorious republic, the grand and powerful Republic of Chile, let us fight against the old older, the one which the Conservadores wish to continue into perpetuity! The relics of the Spanish Empire, limited citizenship, landed control, and mistreatment of the poor will continue without change to our system, change Romano will fight against, or impede at best. I will increase voter franchise, support full citizenship, liberal immigration, and move the state away from economic control!

((Any party can make a political reform in this game. It all depends on how much of the Upper House in-game is Liberal, and each reform has to go inorder, like State Controlled Press before Free Press and State Controlled Unions before Non-Socialist and so forth. Voting in this would be Weighted Wealth, giving the Poor and Middle Class the right to vote, but the rich vote being worth more.

And I've always thought of Censored Press still being more or less State Controlled, seeing as how any newspaper would have to go through some type of Government office for approval before publish. So not really privatization IMHO))

((It's closer than the State just doing it itself. Thanks for clearing that up for me; I don't have Vicky 2, so I don't have a clue how it works. Though I think that Conservatives and Nationalists would oppose reform, or at least extensive reform, while the Liberals would support them.))

They do. Let me give you a quick overview of the Vic2 system:

If you have 50% or greater support in the Upperhouse, you can pass a reform. We do not currently have 50% or greater support in the upperhouse, but if the vote in this thread is high enough, I will have the game pass the reform anyway.

Liberals support political reforms (those that we are discussing now) 100% and social reforms (healthcare, public safety, minimum wage, etc.) 50%. Socialists support political reforms 50% and political reforms 100%. Conservatives support both 0%. Reactionaries support them negative (meaning that they want to repeal them). There are other ideologies with other complex notions of support: for example, fascists will only support a reform if they are in control of the government.

Many parties, including the Conservatives but not including reactionaries or anarcho-liberals, will support political and social reforms in times of high militancy.

((So it's like Vicky 1, basically, only with the upper house thing. That clears things up for me.))

"Let us not get ahead of ourselves of the policies of the Liberales! We have a great future ahead of Chile, and I do not wish to reform every part of the Chilean Nation so rash and blindly. Mayor de Santa Rosa has visions, that is good, but new is not always better and at the speed he wishes to implent these visions will result in a nightmare. I would never stand in the way of progress, but revolution as de Santa Rosa speaks of is not the answer. As promised I wish to present my platform once again, but first I wish to discuss my term as presidente.

Why should I be re-elected? My administration was elected right after a coup and during a war, in the worst case scenario we could have lost the war, and we could have been forced to give up more land, and our soldiers would have died for nothing. Yet my administration and I had managed to turn the war, despite the odds, to the best possible outcome. We have defeated the Argintinians, we have regained our core provinces, and despite great losses we have managed to resupply the army with healthy and professional soldiers. Not only has my administration resupplied the army, but in turn we have also produced Chile's first artillery units, the finest equipment for our soldiers, which has in turn strengthed the army more than ever before. We have managed to secure ourselfves in South America - no local nation can challenge us when it comes to the military strength. Except Brazil, but we have also managed to secure friendly and good relations with the brazillians, and even better we have been allies in a war and we have no grudge. Effectivly I can declare Chile a strong and secure nation as a result of my administration and policies. Yet my opponents say, that my economic policies have been a failure - that the economy has not prospered during my administration. That is only partially true, it is true, the economic growth has not been as i had hoped, but what is not true, is that this is a result of my policies and my administration as my adverseries claim. War senores, is the enemy of growth, and this is why I have not managed to deliver the rate of growth which I had hoped. Now that the war is over, and we face another election, growth will finally prosper, and I have created a plan to increase it;

Industrialization Encouragement Act

- Encourage Capitalists in Santiago
- Lower the tax for the rich strate (capitalists) by at least 15%

I wish to encourage capitalists to move their operations to santiago, and to further encourage their investments, I wish to lower the taxrate for them by at least 15%. This will give the capitalists more resources to invest in, and in turn will speed indutrilization in Chile, creating jobs and economic growth. Furthermore my ambition for my next term, if elected, would be to construct railroads -all- over Chile. The government will invest in railroads improving our infastructure, and in turn creating more opportunity for those who live in rural areas, and this will also encourage the more rural areas to become populated, as they can now be transported to their work places. My overall policies shall remain the same for my next term, if elected;

Interventionalism
Moralism
Pro-Military
Residency

-President Romano

Of these candidates mayor de Santa Rosa is the best one. He's a candidate supporting the values of democracy. He backs Full Citizenship to immigrants, and very important policy for the future of Chile. Chile need immigration from Europe to grow strong. All these skilled people would otherwise be lost to our rivals. He also back expanding the voting franchise to the Middle Class. And the middle classes are ready for it! de Santa Rosa is a man for democracy!

I do not support revolution, Presidente, I support 'honouring the Revolution' by remaining true to liberty. Your lacklustre support for reform will only impede Chile's growth, resulting in more stagnation, which is practically all we've seen under your administration.

My policies would promote growth without the government getting involved. Remember the Spanish Vice-roys who held power for so long? Remember how they controlled us, when we did not wish to be controlled? Why would we want another man, especially one we can remove, to dictate our economy, rather than trust us to lead it?

My economic policies may not result in a full recovery, but it would be start, a beginning, which we've failed to see over the past five years.

Let us build a stronger Chile! Let us rebuild our glorious Nation! Let us remain true to la Revolucion! Let us support Freedom!

((And thank you for your support Yourworstnightm!))

"I have personally suggested a reform of a Censored Press, which would gradually bring the responsibility of the press to the people, thereby freeing government resources little by little. I have already commented on this "stagnation" which you speak off, and I have nothing more to add than what i have already said. My administration has nonetheless accomplished a lot as I also mentioned earlier, I have laid all the facts on the table and I thereby rest my case on that matter. I'd also like to point out, that I support interventionalism not State Capitalism, thus I hardly control the entire economy to the extent that the Spanish Vice-roys, and with all due respect the comparison with me and them is perverse at best."

- President Romano

Why should the State be involved in the market at all, save to protect people from danger and lies? A free market leads to growth, progress, innovation, and a building of a bright future. Government control and regulation impedes, stagnates, disenfranchises, and dulls the world, and why would we want you, or anyone else, deciding the course of the market?

I support your tax cuts, though I wish they were a little more spread out; high taxes on the poor and middle class will only promote radicalism, and will harm our economy as well (how are they going to buy the goods your factories make?)

"The state has a responbility for the people, and the strong has a responsbility for the weak. As a member of the Congreso I feel i am responsible for improving the economy, and this I can do by my economic policy of interventionalism, where I am able to do something myself indstead of remaining passive and pray for the best. My policies do not impede, stagnate or defranchise or dulls the world. There is no proof that this is the effect of my policies. The poor and the middle class deliver the greatest amount of income to the Chilean state, and I have previously been against the 75% taxes during the Peru-Bolivia Act. Currently the tax are so, that the poor and the middle class both can live and live acceptable lives, ofcourse the middle class is better disposed, and it is this class that will purchase together with the rich strata, all what comes from the factories, and this revenue can in turn be invested in a decrease in taxes for the poor."

"I am willing to back Francisco Rivera as presidential candidate for the Partido Nacionale. We need to expand Chilean industry, and our current economic policies prevent us from doing so. Rivera, I simply ask for two things - a ministerial position, and for Chile to expand its navy. Will you be able to provide those? Yous supported me last time, remember."

Eberado de Cary
Senator for Valparaiso

((If it's in italics, only Rivera is to read that))

Interventionism is not so bad as my Liberal friends make it sound, however the reason I back them is because they support Immigration and the Weighted Wealth voting reform. Your coalition unfortunately remain stagnant on these important issues.

Primaries will start tonight.

I don't think there are any new candidates since my last update.
