The Germans only had about 100 aircraft on the Eastern Front - 70 bombers/reconnaissance and 20 fighters. I'd give them a full strength bomber and 25 strength fighter (the 1916 models).

KingMississippi said:
Bulgaria divisions (through tech not .eug file)
+5 mp per division
+4 defense/toughness
+15% morale (greater esprit de corps)
lower ic cost (due to larger infantry in relation to heavy weapons)
same supply cost
quicker build time

Shouldn't manpower focus give bonus to unit attack, and firepower focus to defensiveness? It looks more logical to me (firepower divisions get bonus in defence because they can deploy their heavier weapons and manpower are better in attack due to greater morale).

No, I think it's the other way round. Under WW1 conditions, more firepower made it easier to attack: think artillery barrages, flamethrowers, grenades, light machine guns. More manpower simply means more riflemen walking over no-man's land, making an even bigger target for the defenders to shoot at...

On the defensive, morale is more important: it's easy enough to psych your soldiers up for a quick assault, less easy to get them to keep fighting after ten days being constantly shelled.

Thanks for the OOB Stephen, I'll get cracking on it right now. How do you suggest that I deal with the western units sent to the russian front? Shall I randomly put them in armies via events or do you have more details on where they were placed? Also, what was the Austro-Hungarian exp. force called?

I'm taking the OOBs from the Der Weltkrieg series of wargames, backed up by the Ellis/Cox Databook. The units coming from the West in that game are simply deployed on the western edge of the map - in this case, maybe Breslau? They would then have to march or use Strategic Redeployment to reach the front lines. This gives the German player the option of sending them where they are most needed, which is realistic enough.

The Austro-Hungarian forces in Poland were actually part of the German 9th Army - since that army's historical deployment area covered two HoI2 provinces, I put the Austrian divisions as a separate unit. Unfortunately, I don't know what Corps number they had - perhaps call them 9. Armee (Abt) (with Abt standing for Abteilung - 'detachment')?

Fantastic solutions :) I'll upload some screenshots of the completed OOB and some of the events that I've completed when I get back home tonight.

And here is the Austro-Hungarian OOB.

This list excludes the units mentioned earlier (in the German and Bulgarian OOBs). Note that several A-H units begin the scenario damaged - the Dual Monarchy lacked the manpower to replace its combat losses effectively.

Kowel Province

4. Armee (Erzherzog Josef Ferdinand):
2. Infanterietruppendivision - infantry model 3 at 50% strength
4. Infanterietruppendivision - infantry model 3 at 50% strength
7. Infanterietruppendivision - infantry model 3 at 50% strength
13. Schützentruppendivision - infantry model 3
37. Honvéd Gyalog Hadosztály - infantry model 2
41. Honvéd Gyalog Hadosztály - infantry model 2
53. Infanterietruppendivision - infantry model 2
70. Honvéd Gyalog Hadosztály - infantry model 2

11. Infanterietruppendivision - reserves model 2
26. Schützentruppendivision - reserves model 1
45. Schützentruppendivision - reserves model 1
1. Kavallerietruppendivision - cavalry model 1
9. Kavallerietruppendivision - cavalry model 1
11. Honvéd Gyalog Hadosztály - cavalry model 1

Note: the 4th Army was badly disorganised in summer 1916: its commanding officer and his cronies spent their time on picnics and boating trips instead of doing their jobs properly. As a result, the entire army effectively disintegrated when Brusilov's forces attacked them. I'd represent this by giving this army an organisation of just 5% or so at the start of the scenario.

Cracow province should have level 2 fortifications.

Aircraft units: one 1915 bomber at full strength and one 1915 fighter at half-strength. An additional 1915 bomber is received as reinforcements when Rumania joins the war.

Excellent, everything up to this point has now been included in the battlescenario. Everything left now is the Russian OOB, some event pictures, some event coding, and it'll be playable :)

Well, this is it: the Russian OOB. (Again, this excludes those units I listed under Rumania)

Note: the Guards Army was the main Russian strategic reserve. As a suggestion, you could have them locked in place at the start of the scenario, and released if Russia either loses at least two provinces to the Central Powers, or captures three provinces from them. (To represent either a major disaster or an even bigger opportunity, which would persuade STAVKA to send in the Guards).

Level 1 fortification in Tarnopol.

Air force: two 1915 bombers, one 50% strength 1915 fighter, and a model 0 strategic bomber at 25% strength. (Russia had about 250 aircraft in service at this time.)

My Russian is far from perfect, but I think I can translate front names.

Western Front: Zapadnij Front (or Zapadnyi, if you like that kind of spelling) - Западный Фронт

Sоuth - Western front: Yugozapadnij Front - Югозападный Фронт

OK, this is the Serbian Front Austro-Hungarian OOB for August 1914:

Ottoman OOB

The OOB already in 1914 is accurate enough, but it concentrates the Corps at their headquarters, whereas in reality their component divisions were more spread out. This is the actual situation:

VI Kolordu

In Gaziantep province:
16. 'Adana' Piyade Tümeni - militia model 1, strength = 55
24. Piyade Tümeni - militia model 1, strength = 55

In Aleppo province:
26. 'Aleppo' Piyade Tümeni - militia model 1, strength = 55

Stephen, could you be so kind enough as to supply the OOBs for a middle east (NOT Mesopotamia) battle scenario (british, ottoman and hejazi?)

Scenario to start at the first battle of Gaza.

How about locations? Should all the british forces be in Sinai?

Ang where would the turks be (I know you have the OOB above, but are the locations accurate for 1917?)

also, anything on the Asienkorps for the Ottomans? i saw the 300/5 Pascha flying abteliung..but none of the other regiments etc of the Asienkorps..i mean, if you need some of them, i could be of service for an OOB of the Asienkorps.

Apart from the division I described as "(In Egypt, en route to front lines - division was formed in March 1917)", yes. Presumably El Arish province, if the Turks will be in Gaza.

Dunno. I haven't researched them yet. Patience, my young Padawan.

If you know when they arrived in the Middle East, that would be helpful. All I can discover so far is that they were locked at Aleppo in autumn 1917 and didn't take part in the fighting that year; received reinforcements at some point; and were part of the Turkish 8th Army in autumn 1918.

As for strength, I make it seven battalions at maximum strength (701, 702, 703, 11 Res.Jäger, and 146 Regiment - assuming a regiment is 3 battalions). That would be a light infantry division at 60% strength. (Or possibly two divisions at 30% strength, depending on when the units arrived).

If the Asia Korps will be represented as a Turkish unit, as opposed to a German expeditionary force, then it may be reasonable to strengthen it accordingly, given that the average German soldier in Yilderim was better trained, more sumptiously fed and had greater morale than his Turkish counterpart. Given that, a 100% strenth rating would render it more distinct from the other units in the Turkish order of battle.

A heavy weapons attachment would also be appropriate considering the impressive firepower potential each individual battalion possessed:

- Six MGs
- Eighteen Light MGs
- Six field guns
- Two mountain guns/howitzers
- Four mortars

Now, if the scenario should start at the third battle of Ghaza, as Allenby (and LeopoldIII) has convinced me, to which unit(s) should the reinforcements be added?

Also, does 'model 3' refer to 1912 or 1915 infantry?
