In HoI 2 we could only zoom in/out for designated distances using the -/+ buttons

What im suggesting is that we should be able to zoom in/out to see the whole world and use the mouse scroll

It would be cool to take the whole designated thing out to zoom more freely

seeing the whole world in a political map would be awsome wouldnt it ?

Probably can't zoom out that much, but scroll button zoom is a present feature in the Clausewitz engine.

Take a look at the 2 screenshots in the latest diary. It looks like the zoom range will be greatly increased. I'm sure paradox will assign the mouse wheel to this purpose.

Would be great to see at least a whole continent when at maximum zoom out...

A few of the screenshots we've seen so far are at minimum zoom (i.e. "maximum zoom-out") and it looks like it covers enough area to see all of Europe, for instance, but perhaps not all of Asia or North America.

The EU3 engine, which will be used for HOI3, has always used the mousewheel for zooming purposes. I highly doubt this will change.

Judging from the latest pic, it's possible to fit most of Asia on one screen, and there was a pic with most North/South America on it. You can zoom out pretty far it seems.

BTW, in EU3 (IN), you can take screenshots in a special mode that shows off the whole world, with just the political map shown, so a whole world screenshot is quite possible.

I don't want to take a screenshot... :)
I want to have the overview wher my troups are, where they are moving to, etc... sometimes, especially when in a 2-front-war, it helps to see everything from far above :) ... it's a grand strategy game, right ? :D

I'm sure it'll go as far as you need. From the minimum zoom we've seen so far, you wouldn't be able to make out individual units along a frontline very clearly - they'd just be little dots. Remember alot of the provinces are much, much smaller, so the units will be that much closer together and therefore harder to distinguish when fully zoomed out. I'm sure there'll be a happy medium for you.

They've got it so that the province boundaries disappear as you zoom out and eventually it looks like (from Dev Diary #10) the region boundaries also disappear (though it could just be an unfinished area of the map?).

It would be cool when you zoom out then the individual Divs disappear, leaving only Corps HQs, with the counter increasing in size to fill a region instead of just one province. Then further, only Armies appearing, etc. This would help with more strategic views of your forces. It would be a waste of time keeping all of the individual Divs on screen as tiny counters where clicking on them with the mouse is difficult, and they are too small to read any details on them to identify the Corps HQ's etc. to issue orders

Great Idea Potski.

Modern Military command and control software works like that. You can choose which level of command to display and further, you can tag which unit to use to represent the location on the map or use a center of mass method.

zooming out and seeing Corps, or Army would be very useful when fighting a front or theater sized area.
