So now Zone of Control have changed completely. Instead of affecting a province and sometimes blocking passage in adjacent provinces, Zone of Control rules are now area based.

Why not just scrape the ZOC mechanisms completely and reduce the cost of forts along with its siege bonus. It doesn’t mke any sense that a fort in adjacent province would affect unit movement.

actually it does... not caring about fort MOST LIKELY ended up with grave results in history.

Because then you'd end up with a fort in every province and turn warfare into a painfully dull process of siege warfare.

The fort problem is a complicated one. You need forts to block movement, or else warfare becomes a case of fighting battles until stackwipe, then sieges. But if forts block movement and you have forts in every province, warfare becomes a slow, near-static grind. If forts block movement, but are rare, yet don’t have a ZoC, they become nigh- useless, as enemies slip around them, stack wipe, then siege down the rest of the country.

It’s a problematic balance, one that no one has found a better solution to.

There is nothing wrong with a fort in every province as long as the fort siege bonus is low enough that siege won't be a painfully long process in most of the provinces.

There is nothing wrong with a fort in every province as long as the fort siege bonus is low enough that siege won't be a painfully long process in most of the provinces.

I recommend for you to use beta patch 1.11 or earlier, experience carpet sieging and come back with your experience.

i forgot how it was before the forts, wasnt it you needed to siege everything? i cant recall, i remember having long long wars against ottomans, and it was live since im playing the game since its out, with every dlc that came later eventually (for some reason i cant sync my owned items)

You had to siege everything, but forts didn’t block movement. So generally what happened was that the two doomstacks would fight until one was destroyed (often the winner of the first battle would follow the loser as it retreated, resulting in ping-pong battles across the map). Then the surviving army would split up and lay siege to as many provinces as possible.
