Giday.
I'm playing GC ,Portugal and for the first time ever I seem to be having some success.
A couple of funny things have turned up and can I have your opinion please.
It's about 1550 and I have established citys in Bombay,Goa and Cochin.I have sailed explorers past Kutch ;but it has failed to reveal itself, and I can't land a conquistador there. Why? ( I'm after getting merchants into the COT )
I arrived at Table and got a colony going in {1490's ? } and pretty soon after a COT appeared there;it has since folded,as it should as there was no trade.
The thing is the Zanzibar COT that I have seen in previous games is absent.I wonder why.Like Kutch it won't reveal it self;can't land there.
One last query.
I have spent a lot of money getting Table, the three Indian cities up and have established a city in Jakarta.
Explorers have stopped being avalible and it would have been nice to get too Maco.
When do you think I'll get my next explorer?
Thanks for your time.

The leaderfiles are your friends. Go to DB/leaders and find the file for Portugal, use notepad or somesuch to open it, there you will see all the leaders. But I go here . You could also go naval/narrowminded for increased chances of getting some via event.

Afaik you can't land conqustadors from a ship into a province already belonging to another nation you have no military access with - even not when it's still terra incognita. Strange enought landing in an adjenctant province and then walking in will be fine.

As far as I know you don't need a conquistador to explore settled lands.

Afaik that's wrong. Makes no difference if settled or not, when you don't have land tech 40-somewhat only conquistadors may explore undiscovered provinces. I may be wrong, but then I would wonder why I always waited for those damned conqustadors.

You can try to enter a province with any army if it's Terra Incognita and owned by someone, except from the sea. You will discover the province by dooing so (and the nation, if you don't know it yet), having MA will let you enter and explore all provinces they have.

Ah, you're mostly right.

It's possible to enter an settled unexplored province by sea if you "aim" for an explored province you own (or have MA in I guess) and get a travel path trough the unexplored province.

(I just did some quick testing. Portugal in Age of Exploration is good for experiments, if someone wants to do a more thorough job.)

It is not a bug that you are able to explore inhabited provinces from adjacent provinces even using leaderless armies. It is a new bug that you are unable to explore inhabited provinces, without military access, from sea using a conquistador. You are able to use conquistadors to explore uncolonized provinces from ship.

If you have military access to an unexplored port province, use ships to explore the province by making port in the province (even without an explorer). Discovering a port province this way takes only a matter of six days or less (the time it takes to make port).
