Chapter Four
It seems Majapahit has heard about our military budget cuts, so it tries to take advantage. As we receive the declaration of war all military maintenance is returned to maximum. Luckily, our awkward alliances with Ming and Tianwan work well in our favour as they join us against the Javanese invaders. Majapahit and its numerous vassals have close to 20 000 men more than our alliance, as well as full domination of the sea. It will take some time, however, for them to bring all their troops to China.

In June 1401 the first Javanese army crosses the border and lays siege to Quinzhou. A month later 2 of our armies are merged at go to meet them in the field. The first battle is quick and bloody, as we manage to kill a lot of their men. We follow them as they retreat and are able to rout their army at the former Vietnamese province of Thang Long. Not long after that we capture the province as well. By that time the army is exhausted and gets orders to return home and refill its ranks.

Meanwhile, the Nation of Ming is under attack as some 20 000 invaders land in August. They quickly manage to conquer the province of Lianyungang and proceed to siege Tongzhou and Huai’an. An army of ours is commanded to return and help the Chinese.

Just before the end of the year more Majapahit troops arrive. They also are able to capture our province of Cheli , but most of their troops decide to fall back and aid in the battles against the Ming forces, who currently siege 2 of their provinces.

As the Majapahiti forces leave Cheli we move our armies in an attempt to recapture it. We are successful In the battle of Cheli against 2 of Majapahit’s vassals. As we follow their retreat into the next province an interesting battle takes place – we win a victory killing no one, and actually lose 100 men ourselves! Unfortunately we cannot follow their retreat again as another Majapahit army appears.
A Tianwan army appears in the north and is able to repel the 9 regiments of Majapahit vassals. They then proceed to return Lianyungang to Ming.
We are also able to recruit a new advisor who has 5-star inflation reduction skill. We get a minor event as well, that gives us some ducats.

We manage to rout some of Majapahit’s vassals next month. The month after that Cheli is recaptured. The is going in a stalemate as non of us make any significant gains.

The next 6 months go in a similar fashion – we are able to score some victories over Majapahit and its allies, but they manage to beat and rout Ming’s armies.

Remember the troops we sent to the north to help Ming? They did so and routed the remaining Majapahit army. After winning that battle we sent them to rest in a province further north. And suddenly, a plan was devised! We could take advantage of the opportunity that Ming and Tianwan are fighting a war with us and will not be able to join against us if we attack one of the false Emperors they guarantee. So we take on this opportunity. We have 1 army near song, move another near the border with Fang and leave 1 to stay in the south and pick off smaller enemy regiments. When this is all done we declare the reconquest war for the province of Jining on Song (remember that boundary dispute from before?). Fang and Dazhou join as planned.

We are able to beat Song’s armies in quick succession and rout them. Then we split the northern army and siege their provinces. We are also competent in the front against Fang as we defeat their army making them accept our peace offer half an year later. Dazhou cannot even reach us! By 1406 we have complete victory over Song and make them cede our cored province. On top of that we convert them to our faith and make them pay us 200 ducats!

Anyway, let’s go back south and continue the war against the Javanese invaders. The forces of Majapahit manage to get the momentum in the war again. They summon some 50 000 men – half of them they sent to recapture Cheli and the other half – to deal with Tianwan’s forces.
By may 1404 we have a good warscore and decide to offer them white peace. They, however, decide to reject our offer as they feel they have an edge.

Majapahit soon captures Cheli again and spreads deeper into our southwestern provinces. As they split their armies we are again able to win some battles. We also suffer many casualties in the battle of Dali, but in when the our reinforcements arrive we manage to push them back in the second battle.

When we sign the white peace treaty with Fang the Southeastern army is ordered to return to the front and engage the 11 000 army of Majapahit. They are successful and are able to beat them again in Nanning, and finally rout them in Thang Long.

Routing their army leads us to believe the momentum is with us again as we head deeper in the former Vietnamese lands. We lay siege on the fortress of Xiankhouang and capture it after some time. We are unable to press on and instead fall back to regroup, as yet another Javanese army looks to join the war. Majapahit assaults and quickly recaptures the province of Xiankhouang. They also manage to capture Gejuili.
At the same time Majapahit’s vassals renew the northern invasion as they are able to capture Ming’s 2 ports. Our emperor laughs at false Emperor and orders a new carpet to be made, that will portray the agony of the losing Chinese of Ming.

With the beginning of year 1406 we recapture Cheli once more.
Also, taking a look at the warscreen we can see that war exhaustion starts taking effect in Majapahit. Unfortunately the same applies for Ming and Tianwan. We manage to balance the armies somewhat, though.

Majapahit is not happy about losing Cheli twice and launches another attack at the province. On March 13, 1406 the battle of Cheli happens. Our heroic warriors manage to inflict heavy losses upon the enemy, but soon after are ordered to retreat, as more Javanese reinforcements are coming.

You got yourself in a tough situation. I guess the high aggressiveness has made Majapahit extremely powerful. How will you fare if Ming and Tianwan exit the war?

Well, I still have these 20 000 troops (you can see in the last screenshot , to the right) that are sitting in one of the coastal provinces with high supply limit in order not to gain war exhaustion. If worst comes to worst il bring them in the fray. Actually, I might do that regardless. :)

Chapter Five
We lose another battle as we retreat to the province of Gejiuli. Next month reinforcements arrive and we make another try to retake it, unfortunately, it is unsuccessful again. As a result the enemy manages to rout one of our 15 000 men armies.
Meanwhile we get the nasty Monetary Reforms event and take a 2 stability hit. We also get a boundary dispute with Tianwan. This might be useful in the future.

During these events in the south we send one of our armies the opposite direction, in order to help Ming. By the end of the year we are able to defeat and destroy Majapahit’s armies. As we retake Tongzhou for Ming our army is recalled back south. We also start moving the 20 000 men we kept in reserve to the front.
Our heir falls ill, but a “trained Medicus” manages to save his life.

We retake Gejiuli as the reserves join the war.

By mid 1407 we score some major victories in the south that give us momentum in the war once more. In April the situation clears when we look at our army score’s – Yuan, Ming and Tianwan boast more than 85 000 soldiers while the armies of Majapahit and its allies have shrinked to a measily 40 000. The war is turned!

As Majapahit and its vassals are licking their wounds we press the attack on their southeastern possessions in Asia. After 2 years and some small battles we occupy a big part of their provinces.
We also get a neat 5-star land tech advisor.

The last big battle happens on the fields near Siem Reap as the Javanese manage to summon an army of 12 000. Luckily for us, the battle results in a total victory. After that we chase and rout their remaining armies on the Asian mainland. By early 1411 we have already started sieging their remaining provinces.

In October 1410 comes our Emperor’s final hour. The new Emperor will be tasked with finishing the war.

We get our hands on two wonderful advisors – one is a 6-star inflation reduction, and the next a 6-star trader, who’s reputation will soon reach further than our borders.

Beginning 1412 we have amassed some good 60% warscore and are ready to give them terms. However, it would seem Majapahit’s ruler cannot accept his defeat, so we decide to cause turmoil in their country!

By August 1412 we manage to make their stability -3. Now they won’t be able to refuse our offer.

In May 1413 we get a slider change and we opt for Free Subjects once more. And once more we get lucky as we lose 2% inflation.

July 13 1413 will be remembered throughout history as the day this long war ended. A peace offer is signed and Majapahit cedes us 2 provinces, and gives us some ducats. Kind of disappointing peace offer, but the Javanese were very stubborn about giving us anything, although we had 60+ warscore.

We had a different plan for those provinces though. Through them we will restore the Vietnamese nation and in turn it will serve us as something like a buffer zone between us and Majapahit. We didn’t need these lands anyway, and that is an easy way to create an ally and lose the 4 infamy as well.

Two provinces are quickly converted to our faith. We have managed to lose some inflation during the war and the treasury is doing well too. A time of peace ensues once again in the Realm and things start to normalize – some of our nobles ally with a foreign power, for example.
But will the peace last?

I'm a big fan of the idea of a Buddhist China--played as a Mahayana Ming in Magna Mundi and had the protection of all of Asia from European colonization as my main goal. Also while I'm a die hard MM fan I love the idea of playing the Chinese Civil War so go, you! THis AAR rocks
