Your war goals - What do you want the world to look like postwar after your first game?

Who Cares what happens in Africa or Eurasia....my interests lie elsewhere!

Establish the Confederation of South American Principalities...or CSAP and rule from the Falklands to Panama. Then perhaps go nuts and side against the USA, expand my dominion into Central America and greet 1948 with Great War style trench warfare raging back and forth between Mexico City and San Antonio with the threat of atomic war on the horizon...

I imagine elsewhere in the world the Axis would do much better because America will be distracted...

I did this in a Brazil game in HOI3, it was a lot of fun. Didn't go to war until 41 when JAP declared in USA giving me the time to build two carrier groups which over the course of several years defeated the US navy but with such a heavy naval focus I was never able to take the land fight to the US.

I have never played HoI before, so I will take a minor at first to learn some basics. Maybe Venezuela. So I guess I will take any result in 1948 as granted.

Latin America will likely be boring for a start. Try Germany, or, if you find that intimidating, an Axis Minor.

I want the British to be staring across the Channel at my Russians by 1948. Alexander I got to Paris; I want to go further.

First game, I think I'll play France and try not to die. If I survive into the postwar period I shall consider that winning.

If it seems to be going well, I might try something weird and ahistorical like joining Comintern and trying to replace fascism with a new socialist order in Europe.

I've never played any HOI games before and for my first time ever, I really want to try the USSR and make eastern Europe part of my communist realm .

If you have no experience with the series it might be better to start with a smaller power. Starting off playing as a major power is like jumping in the deep end of a swimming pool before learning how to swim.

Really? Thought that the infinite manpower and 1 front war would be easy to learn upon.

To each his own, I guess, but I suspect juggling all the research and production would be kind of complicated for a newbie. Personally, I would recommend something like Italy for a new player. It has enough to let them play around a bit but not so much to get them hopelessly lost.

I want to play as Italy, not join the axis. But take over Yugoslavia, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Bulgaria, maybe Romania, and when Germany is weak, annex as much of Vichy France as possible to connect Italy with my Spanish holdings and take greater swathes of territory in the middle-east and Africa from Vichy.

Maybe join the Comintern (for trade resources), but not declare war on Germany until they are weak and failing.
