1. Arthropoid
2. Extremely xenophobic, extremely collectivist, extremely expansionist and extremely deterministic, the individual has no meaning whatsoever and is assigned a job and goal when it is spawned. Most "citizens" die on their line of duty/their work shift. 99,9% of the "citizens" will never even get to see their queen with their own eyes. My empire will be heavily influenced by those of ants. Thoughts/hivemind is spread through chemicals (like hormones) that will make the entire hive/colony feel a certain way (e.g. belligerent, happy, suicidal).
3. Matrilineal primogeniture
4. As centralized as can be.
5. Their queen is their goddess. When she dies, or is couped, most "citizens" won't even know and keep on worshipping her. The new batch of spawned "citizens" will honour the new queen, effectively replacing the religion every generation.
6. Social Research, I guess.
7. Kamikaze, pesticides (biological warfare)
8. Like the Leviathan from StarCraft, although I dislike StarCraft. (Top one)

My race went real good.

By the end of the 2nd mile, I was in the leading 10 runners.
By the end of the 3rd mile, I was in the leading 3 runners.
By the end of the 5th mile, I was in the lead, which was nice timing because it was a 5 mile race.

I will play this game so hard that I cannot possibly limit myself to just 1 species!! Will have multiple games on the go at once no doubt!

I am surprised and a mix of relieved/disappointed to see no one has come up with a Phallic race which uses long thick ships with dual bubble like engines

Cool thread :) you should write down alien phenotypes available: mammals, insectoids, reptiles, mollusks, avians, fungoids.

In my very first game I'll play generic humans (I bet there will be such pre-set race) so my first failures and discoveries will be honest.

Later,

1) Mollusks!
2) Whole ethics based on gathering scientific/cultural data via all senses possible. My mollusks are damn intelligent though also a bit crazy. Dozens of orifices, erogenous zones and tentacles means they are obsessed with sexuality which occurs since early childhood of my mollusks till very death. The mathematics and scientific knowledge is sexualized as it is received with the same receptors as sensual data; actually they can achieve equivalent of orgasm during appreciation of equations. The best death for my mollusks is to die from data overload - from the particularly amazing sexual intercourse, awe over some intellectual/sensual pleasure or during war (they are generally hard to kill due to very flexible body structure but prone to sensory overload and their nervous system just shutting down). The worst crime possible is to deny others an access to sensual data (such as abortion of yet developing eggs, euthanasia via non-spectacular means, injure etc). Two sexes. Fascinating biology and psychology.
3) Technocratic Oligarchy - unlike in human society, Krajzen's Mollusks (aww my children) are usually governed by an equivalent of cultural/intellectual elite. Simply, those who are most prone to sensory signals from the environment are regarded as the most capable of gathering state data and commanding others. Furthermore, the more extravagant and weird the mollusk is, the more prestige he has - as he demonstrates his imagination and sensual experience.
4) Federated, due to the flexible nature of ever - experimenting Mollusks whose political constellations change frequently - the more often, the better!
5) Krajzen's Mollusks are religious as hell because their 'religion' is, well, awkward. Each Mollusk orifice, tentacle, organ and eye has separate 'god' devoted to it and those gods constantly rival each other over sensual experience. There is a god of seen, listened, thought, touched, felt, as well as goddes of wet, sharp, painful, boring, tasteful, etc. Each mollusk thereby worshippes around 100 - 500 gods and religious conflicts are based over rooster of those gods. An atheism doesn't exist because for some reason the concept of sensual divinity is extremely deeply entrenched in mollusk psyche; according to them extraterriestral races have their own sensual gods who are, unfortunately, weird as hell and subpar to mollusk deities.
6) Main focus of research - neuroscience, genetic modification and information technology. Focused, of course, on retrieving and manipulating data.
7) Favourite weaponry: electromagnetic projectiles/beams paralysing enemy forces. On the ground - swift attacks cutting enemy from logistical support and communication and then attacking him in the close range - hey, war is so exciting experience! Alternate option to paralysing enemy and cutting him from data is merciful and suggested by 'humanitarian' mollusks - it's use of biochemical weaponry horribly deforming and mutiliating enemy. Mollusks do not exactly get the concept of physical pain and think of the first option as unkind to the enemy who wants to experience the battle. Nuclear weaponry is highly disliked for its devastation potential.
8) FTL drive - warp. For religious reasons.

I still love my mollusks, but now that we know Ethos:

The Guild of Nations

1. Humans
2. 1 Spiritualist, 1 Collectivist, 1 Xenophile
3. Representative Democracy, of a sort. It's essentially an alliance of Distributist nations.
4. Federated
5. Religious
6. Colonization and Exploration
7. Ballistic Missles! Lasers are too dangerous as they lack guidance systems, to both the crew firing it (can miss) and whatever's behind the target.
8. Hard and Utilitarian design. No need to waste precious resources on aesthetic.
9. Wormhole. Better fits the distributist concept of subsidarity, also awesome.

1. The Race
latest

2. The Empire's policies are fiercely expansionist, due to connotations of manifest destiny.
They are a reptilian race, advanced for the human standard of the World War II era but with weapons and technology only partially superior to the human one of XXI century. A significant difference from the human race it's the lack of family bonds: the Race experiences mating seasons and no familiar bonds are created between males and females.
3. Empire
4. Not federated
5. Worship of 50,000 year old imperial dynasty
6. Technological progress proceeds very slowly, on the scale of thousands of years.

2. Collectivist, Militarist and Spiritualist
3. Military Dictatorship
4. Never.
5. Of course.
6. Better ships, better weapons and better soldiers
7. Ballistic weapons, but I don't care about this: I will use the most powerfull
8. Vaygr style, with SPQR banners everywhere and a lot of gold decorations to Mars. Also, I want to have a great cannon in my capital ship, called Pilum :)

Midgard Dominion, ruled by the divine af Aesir bloodline.
1. Enhanced human. Norse/Germanic/Prussian. If I can I'll have caste like subspecies roles. A germanic noble caste and then the rest of humanity. It is based upon my try at having a continuous reformed norse empire that end up conquering the Earth, creating world peace under Norse/germanic rule. The imperial bloodline that rules claim blood ties to Odin Allfather himself through Ragnarr Lothbrok.
2. Militarist, Spiritualist, Xenophobe.
3. Military dictatorship, Divine mandate or monarchy. whatever best fits a system of an imperial bloodline with divine roots.
4. A dominion to dominate
5. Religious but more spiritual than dogmatic. The Germanic gods are revered and seen as guiding figures/archetypes rather than real gods.
6. EVERYTHING.
7. I like a balanced mix, whatever are most effective and impressive.
8. Norse and Prussian but still sleek and rounded.
9. Hyperlanes.

1. Mulloscoid
2. A peaceful water world race. Much more interested in exploration than warfare. They have always wondered what land planets are like and have written lots of science fiction on it.
3. Technocratic Republic.
4. Not federated. They have had many centuries to unite and are pacifist herbivores by nature.
5. Religious. Most worship the sky gods and in the past they thought of clouds as the gods themselves.
6. Research on travelling through the cosmos would be their priority, due to their love of exploration.
7. Missiles would be their preferred weapon.
8.
spaceship_design_by_jasons21-d5wwldk.jpg

Because fish people.
9. Warp drive since it allows the greatest freedom in exploration.
