Micromanagement
This is my one 'gripe' about HoI, so I'm wondering if it will be looked at in HoI2
I have metioned this in the HoI forum under 'aircraft and micromanagement', so I hope no one reminds me reiterating here as a couple of replies said it could not be fixed in HoI
The one thing that stops me from playing multiplayer ( which I would love to do) is the time factor involved in actually issuing orders etc. I shall use Germany as the example country.
First of all is the Intercept mission ( I always assign missions through ctrl/rightclick) :
1) When you first invade a country.
The game realistically simulates the fact that once you declare war it takes 2-4 days for your units to get over the border and start fighting. In this time fighters are doing what they should be doing: ie. neutralising the enemy airforce.
So you time your intercept missions to start at 0600hrs to start taking down the enemys only hope of stopping your bombers. So after they have completed their missions and flown back to base about 1100hrs-1200hrs they fly back to base and then just sit there.
There should, in my opinion be a repeat mission button for this type of mission, because you need to send your fighters up again to repeat the mission in the afternoon. The No1 priority is to destroy anything that will stop your bombers. The only use after they have landed is if enemy air units approach them then they may intercept if they detect them. ( This is where all those valuable research techs into radar and detection techs come into their own!).
Bombing Missions:
2) Following the above example you assign Luftflottes to reach their targets 3-4hrs after the fighters have reached theirs, again using ctrl right click. In the opening stages you should'nt really use the repeat mission button until you know the enemy airforce has been neutralised. But after they have, you want to assign them to bomb round the clock using the aforemetioned button.
But here is the problem. You are having to micomanage your airforce to do things right, and that is very time consuming. Now I will not play any other way because you need to do things 'how they were done', you need to consider your pilots fatigue and morale ( ie Org ), and the general combat effectiveness of your formations.
There is nothing more annoying than 'forgetting' that naval air squadron that has run down on strength and organisation ( or any other airunit for this matter ), that is perpetually on a Nav bombing/Patrol mission in the Skagerrak, and should have been rested days ago.
What is needed is some sort of parameter set to be taken into account when you issue orders like:-
'Bomb province for next four days then rest and TELL me you have completed your assigned mission and you are now resting'
Another parameter could be:-
'Continue with your assigned mission until your strength has been reduced to say 60% or whatever and then stop and go back to base and TELL me you are now resting'.
I know its a rather long winded 'wish', sorry , but I could'nt explain it any other way
