What is your one dearest Hearts of Iron II wish?

My wish is a more realistic peace working system. No longer all out ANNEX OR DEATH! I'm not saying that the war should end with a few war indemnitied paid on each side, but if Germany is occupied in the West, just because they have a huge area of Russia, it doesn't mean they will keep fighting.

Wishes

Some of these are just minor tweeks, but here are my wishes. Apologies if I repeat something, I skipped a bunch of pages:

1) Review all resources on the map. In HOI as the USA, you run out of steel and coal before you run out of oil. This is clearly not right. I know they are doing this to a degree, but I hope they are studious about it.

2) As it stands now, the manpower is not right. I think the problem is that there is no accounting for the "tail" of the army. That is, all of the rear echelon personnel seem to be missing. On a related note, it would be nice to have an option at the beginning of the game where you select what type of army, tail to tip ratio, you want. Example, the US had a large tail, but it gave the US the best supply lines in the war. On the other hand the Soviets had a smaller tail, which caused lots of their offenses to spudder, but gave them more frontline troops.

3) More techs like in CORE.

4) The logistic penalty is a good idea, but it is calculated wrong. It should be calculated from the point of supply, not the last allied territory the troops were in. So, the supply point could be a port or invasion beach or nearest friendly territory. The current system makes it impossible to launch many historic assaults.

Thats all for now.

I want STABILITY!

Far too often i spend hours making my country operate prefectly. Then perform the greatest military maneuver and conquer the world. Then HoI crashes to my desktop. After cursing the game designers and everyone else that made my computer and the game, I start over, and save more, but as I get into it, and make more progress, I forget to save, and I dont like the autosave feature cause that just leaves me with a gamelist full of pointless saves.

If the game just stood on its own basicly programming and was as stable as EA games or even Infogamers, I'd love the game.

*note to any actual game designers who might read this. I love the game and realize its a big game and you got deadlines. Just dont put me on that "he'll never beta-test" list.....Plz." :D

Yes, the game does crash if you play it long enough. If I play less than an hour, I don't worry about it. More than 2 hours, I start thinking about when it would be most inconvient. Never had the game stay stable much past 3 hours.

My dearest wish would be realistically concentrated industry. HoI not only had industries all over the place, but made actually much cheaper and convenient to create new ones where there very few industrial points.

That's insane!

Germany, for example, should have only two industrial areas, the Ruhr and Silesia/Schlesien. As Speer told Hitler, once those two areas were gone Germany instantly fell like a house of cards...

France should have only one, at Lorraine, Great Britain one, at the Midlands... etc, etc.

Those areas, in my opinion, should be where steel production was. WWII was a war fought with steel.

Great thing would be auto-assignment of commanders to armed units. One button, which would assign leaders to units with only default ones. Field Marschals to formations above 10+ units, Generals to formations with more than 4-9 units, Lt. Gerenrals to formations with 2-3 units and Mj. Generals to formations with 1 unit.

GREAT IDEA.

I'd also like to keep generals you've assigned to units in the master list with the unused generals. (Just add a little tag saying 'Currently commanding such and such unit at such and such location)

1) Being able to change units, upgrade a regular infantry unit to anti-air, or anti-tank units. This way you can change them later and change their "equipment" as needed.

2) As has been said many times, better diplomacy system. Anyone should be able to make alliances, do the scoring on the type of government instead of the alliance system.

3) Partisans and special forces units, these units could sabatage production much like stratigic bombing, or they could increase dissent. a sabatoge event that can lower production for a short while.

4) an event that sends German POWs to Siberian and Central Asian work camps where they can up the production in these provences.

5) Being able to attach leaders to specific units, this way a field marshel, or what ever, has support personnel to each unit and adding a little to the overall skill levels of the stack. I also think that it would be neat for a unit that performed espessally well in battle to recieve a nickname, though that is just fluff.

6) Unit XP, that could go down after a unit takes severe losses and could increase if they don't take too many losses in several battles.

7) etc... and many more that I'm sure will be included

I'm pretty sure the inappropriate treatment of prisoners from either side is forbidden from representation.

Not only that, I don't think the German POW's were really that much of a factor, nor we're they really pressed into heavy work till post war... don't quote me on that though.

Mono-resource provinces system should be eliminated!!!!
There is no logic for provinces producing only one resource.
I know it would require an enormous effort to paradox to encode multiple resources provinces so I don't expect it on HOI2, but imagine how great would it be if you could produce iron, food, oil on the same provinces!
This goes also to all paradox games. Vicky would be much better if I could produce gold, iron, cattle and coffee in the same province like it really heappened in Brazil and still does.
I imagine this system may work well in europe or swedish real life resource production but it has no logic on the world system.

I only wish 3 things for HOI 2.

1.- that HOI 2 V 1.0 its not as buggy and unplayable as HOI 1 V1.0 was.
i dont want to buy hoi2 and be forced to play hoi 1 v1.06c until a decent patch is available for hoi 2.

2.-That minors can make their own alliances between themselves without having to be in one of the big 3.

3.- a 1933 scenario that begins with germany choosing whether hitler gains power or not. This can be an alternate history scenario which paradox wont lose much time in it since they are not required to make new events. , but rather make it as a scenario directed at mod makers.

Micromanagement

This is my one 'gripe' about HoI, so I'm wondering if it will be looked at in HoI2

I have metioned this in the HoI forum under 'aircraft and micromanagement', so I hope no one reminds me reiterating here as a couple of replies said it could not be fixed in HoI

The one thing that stops me from playing multiplayer ( which I would love to do) is the time factor involved in actually issuing orders etc. I shall use Germany as the example country.

First of all is the Intercept mission ( I always assign missions through ctrl/rightclick) :
1) When you first invade a country.
The game realistically simulates the fact that once you declare war it takes 2-4 days for your units to get over the border and start fighting. In this time fighters are doing what they should be doing: ie. neutralising the enemy airforce.

So you time your intercept missions to start at 0600hrs to start taking down the enemys only hope of stopping your bombers. So after they have completed their missions and flown back to base about 1100hrs-1200hrs they fly back to base and then just sit there.

There should, in my opinion be a repeat mission button for this type of mission, because you need to send your fighters up again to repeat the mission in the afternoon. The No1 priority is to destroy anything that will stop your bombers. The only use after they have landed is if enemy air units approach them then they may intercept if they detect them. ( This is where all those valuable research techs into radar and detection techs come into their own!).

Bombing Missions:
2) Following the above example you assign Luftflottes to reach their targets 3-4hrs after the fighters have reached theirs, again using ctrl right click. In the opening stages you should'nt really use the repeat mission button until you know the enemy airforce has been neutralised. But after they have, you want to assign them to bomb round the clock using the aforemetioned button.

But here is the problem. You are having to micomanage your airforce to do things right, and that is very time consuming. Now I will not play any other way because you need to do things 'how they were done', you need to consider your pilots fatigue and morale ( ie Org ), and the general combat effectiveness of your formations.

There is nothing more annoying than 'forgetting' that naval air squadron that has run down on strength and organisation ( or any other airunit for this matter ), that is perpetually on a Nav bombing/Patrol mission in the Skagerrak, and should have been rested days ago.

What is needed is some sort of parameter set to be taken into account when you issue orders like:-

'Bomb province for next four days then rest and TELL me you have completed your assigned mission and you are now resting'

Another parameter could be:-

'Continue with your assigned mission until your strength has been reduced to say 60% or whatever and then stop and go back to base and TELL me you are now resting'.

I know its a rather long winded 'wish', sorry , but I could'nt explain it any other way

Just a couple of things...

1. I would like a leadership pool like the manpower pool. This would be used to more accurately reflect the Stalin purges which currently are not so devastating and the decline in german manpower near the end of the war. So each build would take leadership points from this pool, and each reinforcement would come from it as well. If the pool goes to some value then you have penalties to your combat abilities. Maybe this is not as easy as I would like to think but there needs to be something to simulate the advantages of having good officers at all levels...and the problems with not having them. The fact is the russians did not recover from the purges until '43 yet in HoI this is not obvious....the fact that you had a captain commanding a Brigade is not simulated at all.

Possibly this could just be done with a single number that is affected by in game events.

2. The possibility to build independant brigades. This is especially important for things like the pacific where it is a bit counter-intuitive to be using divisions to garrision an island. But historically the russians build nothing but brigades in 42 due to the fact they did not have enough officers that had the experience to command divisions...most of these were later expanded into full divisions as men and trained officers became available.

3. A much more realistic naval invasion system.

4. National flavor in the tech tree. It would be nice to see a bit of national variation in the units too but that is probably more trouble then it is worth but for some specific things it would be nice to see a small reduction (5-10%) in the development time/cost of tanks/planes/ships which where historically used by that country.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. All province and resource systems are simplifications. It's just a matter of how much you have to simplify it to make it manageable, both in terms of game design and management (or rather, avoiding micromanagement). One can never simulate this in a completely accurate manner. HOI is in this regard ahead in one department (multiple kinds of resources in one province) and behind in another (few kinds of resources, no money). With HOI 2 it seems we'll see an improvement when it comes to the number of resources, so in some ways we'll get the best of both worlds.

I would like to have the ability to select AI or events, a slider perhaps. Looking something like this

Slightly ahistorical-----------------------------------Radically ahistorical

Yes, yes, there are mods. Mods shmods. How about some unpredictability? A Komintern USA? How about Canada and US embroiled in a war against united fascist south and central America? US invaded from mexico, etc. How about a no Barbarossa, with the USSR still neutral and trading with Germany. What if Germany delayed the war a year, and Italy had the time to build up a modern army and complete it's navy?

AI improvement on a general level would be nice...but the AI will also have to learn lost of new stuff...particularly when it comes to the air and naval departments…

My dearest HoI2-wish?

That in the german language version, and only the german language version, Germany is made a mandatory NPC. That would serve all those pesky right-wing "Deutschland-Deutschland und sonst nix und mein Opa hätte fast alleine die Ardennenoffensive gewonnen"-players who (of course) don't speak any english, which have infested my once favourite german Fanboard about paradox-games since the release of HoI1 quite well... ;)

P.S.: I'm planning in getting the UK-Version myself... :)

NPC, huh? Who'll be the GM? USA? :)

The problem is that even if such a thing was implemented (which it won't be...it'd hurt sales), that abut three hours after release odds are you could find a patch somewhere on the net that'd disable that little modification...
