What is your one dearest Hearts of Iron II wish?

My wish is a more realistic peace working system. No longer all out ANNEX OR DEATH! I'm not saying that the war should end with a few war indemnitied paid on each side, but if Germany is occupied in the West, just because they have a huge area of Russia, it doesn't mean they will keep fighting.

You are aware that you pay for reinforcements with supplies too in HoI1?

And that supplies include things as spare tanks/planes? ;)

Yep we know that, but it seems just as to abstract system, at least for me ;)

What will happen with my idea, is that units will change their strength and movement during the game play as you might reinforce a divison with e.g. faster and lighter tanks or heavier o stronger tanks. The men that are put into the divison might be less good than the ones in the division or maybe even better (have to solve that with some experience rating).

I'm not sure if I have played 1.06b. Stopped playing in January with the latest patch then. But what I remember is that the only irritating about convoys is that it made a lot of pop up messages that I had to disable before I started each game ("sunk x convoyship in sea zone x" or something)

A battleship can lose 10-15% of its strength on a single ocean crossing fighting convoys. It is even worse for smaller ships.

Was Rommel victorious because he was good to begin with or was he good because he acquired lots of "exp" in he's previous battles then?

I doubt that you will argue against the fact that being "defeated" (in abstract snese, it applies to every level of human existance really) makes us think what we did wrong and how to do better next time more so than being "victorious" every single time. If your are already doing everything fina and well already what is there to improve on?

Rommel's previous experience was in WW1.

Rommel got better with each victory. He never got lazy. Very few generals could have won with what he had to work with.

While it is ture that some leaders can learn from defeats, others never learn at all.

Marshal Zhukov won every battle he ever fought. Do you think he never got better just because he won?

Supplies being as cheap as they are, it's a bit wierd that constructing tanks to a existing divisions cost less than to a new division.

Well, in an existing division you already have tank chassis etc - usually tanks could be repaired at a lower cost than it cost to build one from scratch.

But your concerns are noted - take a look at the 'Historical Statistics Pack' suggested by MathGuy :)

Commander Experience

"5) Experience for leaders would be based more on winning battles, not just fighting them."

In war you can learn as much, if not more, from a defeat than an easy victory. Was Zhukov a better General than Rommel because he was not defeated (no miracle when you look at the advantages he had)?

I think the experience model used in HOI is just right. The only thing I would add is that a General can gain a "skill" (like Offensive, Devensive, etc) as he gets more experienced.

dunno if this has been mention before but id love to see casualties list!

e.g a pop-up window saying....

"Sir, during the battle of berlin, we substain 21,569 casualties while the enemy suffered 49,987 casualties"
that'll add realism to the game!

Experince should IMO be the same as in HOI.

But you could get a trait when you win and another trait when you lose..
Nice little traits, with little effect on gameplay, just as in CK. :D

In HOI now you only get experience for how long the battle is. What kind of sense does that make? You can fight and win several battles in plains over a several day period, but you won't get 1% of the experience as you would if you would have fought in the mountains in a thunderstorm. In my recent game Rommel gained 182 experience in three LONG battles during the Spanish Civil War as an expeditionary force commander. He got so much experience because his troops (MG Tanks) and the Republican troops were so bad and the battles took forever.

It took Rommel constantly fighting, and winning, through France, Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey, Persia, and Iraq to get 18 more.

#1 Wish?

My #1 wish?

It's probably been said before...

Carriers need to do more! Improve their ability by making sea zones smaller and/or improving the way they operate (extended detection, revised stats, "linking" CAG's to the carriers so they achieve a improved fusion of stats, etc)...

There should be a hex based map, one that can truly model the terrain, and add more strategy to this wargame, rather than a abstract province system..A thousand wargames can't be wrong.. :D
If you had a hex system the countries borders would be really ugly

Thanks all...

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions! I hope Paradox has had a chance to look at and consider some of these. I too like the Prestige idea, and think that it could be implemented to compliment, or be a valid substitute for experience.

If someone from Paradox is interested or has the time to comment, I'd be interested to hear what they'd have to say.

Anyone else have anything else to add/comment on these ideas?

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet or not, but what about the issue of who gets control of a territory- I always hated being Germany and attacking Russia from Romania and having Romania get credit for the capture.

I agree. It is not fair.
This happens all the time. With Afrika Korps, I once invaded Egypt from Lybia an Italy kept the provinces, so i'll never do it again...

* A completely reworked system for planes and aerial warfare.

* Make aircraft carriers important and dangerous.

* Better AI.

EDIT: But after reading some of the AAR's for HoI before v1.03, I think that not rushing the game before it is ready is most important.

My wish is simple: That it doesnt in any way start to become like EU or Vicky. Judging from the 2nd screenshot it may be heading in that direction, and Im getting very scared. Not that those games are bad, but they bore me a bit. I like the detailed techs, etc, and would loke HOI to remain HOI-like, not some hybrid. I like the micro managment and theres just not enuff action in those other games for me. Set you sliders and watch is not that much fun to me.

Is it not like HoI already? You set the sliders and the produce. I feel there is way to little micromanagment in HoI as it is now and the information that it even will be less, is telling me at the moment that I shall not buy the game.
