What is your one dearest Hearts of Iron II wish?

My wish is a more realistic peace working system. No longer all out ANNEX OR DEATH! I'm not saying that the war should end with a few war indemnitied paid on each side, but if Germany is occupied in the West, just because they have a huge area of Russia, it doesn't mean they will keep fighting.

That was the intention. By having "templates" which u fill with troops and equipment, u will take a away the micromanagment, but still keep a production system that will create unique units. There doesn't need to be so much clicking, just slidebars like there is right now on production (put x IC into military production, now instead u put x IC into production of a certain tank, artillery piece, infantry type etc etc). Then u just click on one of ur templates and the game will automatically draw the amount of men and equipment from the reserve pools to fill the division template. Afterwards u can adjust the template, depending on how strong and fast it should be. During combat, the division "templates" will lose x men and x pieces of equipment (e.g. tanks, artillery), these can be replaced by units from the reserve pool as reinforcement.

When it comes to naval units, u could have destroyer flottila "templates" that could be filled with either new ships or older. The bigger ships, like BB, CA and CV, would be produced as ship with name and given strength depending on model. Their templates can be filled with escort ships.

I actually think that this system would work in HoI and that it wouldn't mean much more micromanagement than there is today. But as I said I doubt it would be implemented.

I'd like to see a bit more complexity in the domestic politics and elections systems. Nothing as detailed as the POP system in Victoria, maybe just a chart showing the % of the population supporting each political party, with levels of dissent shown for each faction. Which party is in power should also have more effect on the events and options available to the player than in the original HOI.

My suggestions

1. The ability to create seperate alliances, having to join the Allies, Axis, or Comintern if you want allies gets boring after a while, I'd like to create my own alliances.

2. The ability to organize joint attacks with your allies i.e.: Normandy, and to decide who gets the province you are attacking beforehand, like staking claims.

3. A worldmap as or more detailed as Victoria's to allow more strategic movement.

Airbourne supply

I duno if it´s been proposed cause im at work and havn´t had time to read it all throug. But airborn supply should imho be implented. Areal supply was not used frequently in the war but a couple of times (mostly by the brittish) As in a battle in the himalayas between india and the japanese controlled South east asia with great success. And in Arnhem by the brittish with bad success. And in Stalingrad aswell. Dun know how it should be implented i leave that for the more talanted to figure out.

I like it allthough it means a little bit more of micro management.
but it would certainly make the game more realistic than now when you just reinforce your tank divisions with just men and get tanks at no other cost than manpower.

You are aware that you pay for reinforcements with supplies too in HoI1?

And that supplies include things as spare tanks/planes? ;)

My Wishlist

I think HOI is a great game, but I do have a HOI2 wishlist.

1) Naval units have the option NOT to engage convoys.
2) You can trace resources THROUGH allies and puppets
3) When you liberate a puppet they are a member of your alliance and you have millitary access.
4) When you capture a province with YOUR units YOU control it, regardless of where supply was traced from.
5) Experience for leaders would be based more on winning battles, not just fighting them.
6) No overflights over neutral countries.
7) A message box when someone declares war on you, even if they are joining an existing alliance you are at war with.
8) Retreating, defeated units cannot capture a province, ESPECIALLY when there is nothing left but a HQ.
9) Land province to land province convoys that don't require merchant ships.
10) A non-nuke game option.

1) I have been assuming that the mission based naval model will include a merchant raiding mission, during which (and only during it) the ships will try to engage merchantmen. On the other hand, there most be similar mission for LBA as well (or it could just fall under general naval interdiction).

5) One could easily argue that defeat is a better mentor than victory.

9) Absoloutely needed for the Burma road. It was the key reason for the Japanese invasion of the area. China might have straved without the Allied supplies.

Take Rommel for instance. He did well in France, and then in N. Africa. He was victorious most of the the time in quick battles, from which he wouldn't have gotten much XP.

An absolute MUST for HOI2

IMHO keyboardshortcuts must be worked in to HOI2. For a micromanager like myself its an absolute must to be able to cycle through not only the troops at my disposal but also the provinces under my control. Keyboardshortcuts for building troops and improvements is also high on my wants list. Playing the USA is a nightmare when it comes to that time of the year when its time to build industries and infrastructure, even before occupying any foreign territories.

Was Rommel victorious because he was good to begin with or was he good because he acquired lots of "exp" in he's previous battles then?

I doubt that you will argue against the fact that being "defeated" (in abstract snese, it applies to every level of human existance really) makes us think what we did wrong and how to do better next time more so than being "victorious" every single time. If your are already doing everything fina and well already what is there to improve on?

I'm not sure if I have played 1.06b. Stopped playing in January with the latest patch then. But what I remember is that the only irritating about convoys is that it made a lot of pop up messages that I had to disable before I started each game ("sunk x convoyship in sea zone x" or something)

There is a message that says that a country has joined a alliance. If a country joins an alliance then they automatically will be at war with anyone that that allaince is at war with. So if ur Germany and at war with the Western countries, u can be sure that if some country goes into alliance with CW, then they will be at war against u also.
