i share the gripping fear ;), that the tech tree will be left without leaves, so to speak :)

i mean that hot lookin' tech pics and descriptions from hoi 1 will be left out in favour of a more efficient tree. meh :p

a lot of the flavour that made hoi 1 so likable for me was that virtually ALL of the period photographs in the game were in the tech tree. as far as i saw anyway. so paradox guys, unless you find some other way to shove in a whole lot of period photographs, please dont remove the tech pics?

i dont know about you guys but researching techs kinda loses all its enjoyment for me when theyre just little green or red bars with names on them :p. i know they want hoi 2 to be abstracted, but not putting those tech pics in is just a little too much abstraction for me :p

My biggest fear - a premature release. If HoI 2 coninues the Paradox reputation of having poor bug ridden games with great potential, well there is a lot of competition in the market. I REALLY want Paradox to make some money off this so that they can continue to give us more great games and I feel that it is crucial to the company image (and therefore sales) that this one is released relatively 'clean'.

Amen!

Yeah. But I don't fear they will take the flavour off it. They have already shown us unique city province pics and the overall graphics looks neat. Leaderpics the same as before, and nice little sprites on the map the way we are used to. So taking the pics off the techs would be a strange decision to make, after putting in the effort to make the game look neat in the alpha.

I only fear there will be fewer techs... But the tech-tree should be moddable however, so now I've even got some blurred vision of the CORE-mod for HOI2. :D

That it will have lost those lovely tech pics and descriptions. But then I am a born-again-tech-tree-hugger who would like to see more techs then in CORE.
It's like shopping in a hardware store, what gadget will we get this time?
I like it ! :D

PS: yeah, I know Paradox is going for a simpler tech tree this time and I understand, yet regret, that. But let's keep those descriptions+pics.

it would be painful picking those shnekshy gadgets with no pics, sniff :( ;)

the french tech screen in that one screen shot, if you compare them, does not have enough room in the interface to fit a tech pic from hoi 1. maybe that large purplish rectnagle space will be for that, or maybe there is another screen that you get when you click on one of those category tabs that does have enough space for pic + description. im just egg-spressing my concerns over what weve seen so far.

i do suspect that the tech tree in that screen shot was some kind of summary-overview business, but in the case that it is how the tech tree will look, then i say meh unto you

:)

edit: and i share your concern that it will be smaller this time. or maybe they just added new techs, kept all the old ones, and made the interface more managable? with that whole "concentrate on goals not on the components needed to get there" declaration by the paradox guys i hope they wont just abstract the components but make them selectable, complete with descriptions :D.

instaed of 1936 infantry weapons, youd get the 100+mm infantry guns, the service rifles, the basic land mines, etc. that would be wicked awesome, i think :)

Ok. Looks as if the paralellograms in the tech-screenie are buttons which can either be disabled or enabled. So I bet if you press one that the pic and desc pops up in the empty space beneath when the game is finished. If not I'd be very dissapointed. I also guess you can click on the different facilities to see what they are on to.

As stated in the interview the tech system will be result-oriented, so I guess a 'project' in one of the 'facilities' might contain a sub-tree which is queued up to the point in which you get a applicable result ? That would give us both easier micromanagment, and at the same time give us the opportunity to keep the complexity at the same level as before.

yeah, i just hope they dont decide to cut all the 'components' to the 'goals' out of the game for the sake of simplicity. id personally love to be able to check out exactly what components the guys at facility x are researching.

you tell them you want basic medium tank 50+mm, and they go through basic gear, basic engine, tank gun 50+mm in order until they finish, then you get a pop up window saying theyr done. i dont know about you guys, but i think this would be a LOT more flavourful than just having one tech called something to the effect of basic medium tank 50+mm prerequisites. all these components would get pics and descriptions of course :D. (pasted from hoi 1 for the most part i guess, and the new ones just added to these)

I'm worried about finding a suitable BRIDE for Hitler. And what the stats of his children might be.

I am also concerned that I might not be able to purchase enough coffee on the world market for the Italian capitalist and clerk pops.

I am worried that paradox will once again neglect the minor nations, a trend we are seeing more and more of in their recent games. Again, I don't want to unrealistically bouy up countries like hungary so that it can go one on one with the states, but I want smaller countries to be able to realistically raise a division or two.

Bascially, I want the freedom of movement that HoI offered (and victoria NOT), but back to the older Eu2 style where it is reasonably possible to alter history IF you play your cards right.

In the end, my main concern is with Italy as it always is with ww2 simluations, am I going to be doomed to play a 2nd rate power that will continuously fall behind technologically no matter how well it is played? As with HoI now, it is tollerable because one CAN turn Italy into the semblance of a great power by conquest by the end of the scenario, however...unless one conquers all of france and germany by some stroke of luck, you are still going to have basic tanks by the end of it because miraculously the ICs just can never catch up.
