My first attempt with Trebizond way back when that actually started to get off the ground. I had Georgia, Armenia, Kaffa, and a few chunks of Crimea (a nice, solid power base coalescing for me) and I thought I saw an opening and DoWed the Ottomans while they were busy fighting other wars.
The other wars almost promptly ended in white peaces and the Ottomans quickly re-organized and crushed me, followed by the various hordes then DoWing me as well. I think I was left with Trebizond itself... and yeah, that was a ragequit. All that luck, all the planning and scraping for manpower and territory... gone because I couldn't wait a wee bit longer to put the Turks in their place.
Thankfully my next attempt would see the successful reformation of Komnenos Byzantium to the world, so there was that. Lesson was learned, and the Ottomans didn't feel my wrath that time around until I'd gathered more territory and until they were even more vulnerable.
