And whats wrong with that? Its quite historical..

By saying 'I failed with Hungary so much I was behind tech of Europe and Middle East' I don't mean 'I had lower tech than West, Poland and Ottomans' but 'my Hungary had lower tech than Baluchistan, Algiers, Albania, Moldavia, Uzbek and Bengal'.

as I said, don't even ask me how I managed to fail so much... although this was my first - and the most frustrating - EU4 game :D

ps

my neighbor Venice had half of Italy due to my help (without foreseeing the possible consequences) and the best tech in the world

Japan ironman: 3 Incidents at Hinoji Castle within half a century or so, ending in me getting Ming's dynasty and having a nice red legitimacy, with a peasants war in-between. Survived, but damn did I pull my hair out on that one.

There have been others, but that's the worse I remember(on a frustration scale at least).

Generally speaking there is nothing worse than huge civil war along foreign intervention :D

irl and in eu4

I still remember these goddamn Hungarian Desperate Situations when I have:

no manpower

bankrupcy

bad stability

max WE

1/4 of country occupied by enemy forces

2/4 occupied by rebels

last provinces in a risk of revolt

and my last army outnumbered 1:3 by foes, trying to save the country

epic as hell but in the case of Hungary - extremely, extremely frustrating. After 3 failed attempts at making anything succesfull from this country I don't even wanna look at it at EU4. I had American Indian and OPM games far more enjoyable than this state :D

Blast game as Poland. Become HRE Emperor in 1475. Forming Commonwealth, keeping alliance with Austria, France and Hungary. Enacting 3 reforms.
1540. King dies, 1 year old heir. Heir falls ill when he is 14, dies. Interregnum. Austria elected as Emperor. Next king dies in 3 years. Got PUed by France.

Well, I broke from PU, got shit king with low legitimacy and i was without manpower, with 25 loans. So Sweden (which was monster killing Muscovy and rulling all Scandinavia) declared war on me. That was a moment I quit and deleted save. I just feel sometimes better u do in game, u get only bad events and things like this.

My most frustrating game was in EU3 as England. Got a 999 heir (only time I ever got one!). Ruler dies right after the heir was born and I got a really boring 333 regency. When the heir finally comes of age after a 15 year long regency he dies two (2!) months later!!! Worst of all is that the new heir was a newborn 333 and my regency was, once again, 333. Rage quit.

Most frustrating game ever: playing as Poland.

I westernized early in the game, which put me behind neighbors technology wise, but was sure to be an advantage over time. Get PU with Lithuania and expand north and south. Conquered Teutonic Order and Pomerania, vassalized and annexed Brandenburg and several other HRE states. I have about 5 nations in a coalition against me.

Finally, the long wait is almost over, and I can almost form the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth! Just a few more years until I have the requirements to do it.

I was still recovering from a war which gave me low prestige and low manpower. Suddenly a coalition member declares war on me. I don't remember who my allies were, but for some reason they couldn't provide help. No way I can win, so I sue for peace before my war score is too low, releasing a couple nations I had annexed.

Unfortunately I had lost enough battles in the coalition war to put my prestige at -40, so the chance of the union with Lithuania breaking on my king's death was 100%, and my king was 48 years old. I have to get my prestige above 0. A stable PU for all those years, and at the twelfth hour, this happens...

I gave up trying to reclaim those vassals and tried to push my prestige up, by doing all prestige boosting missions, and choosing prestige in all random events.

Several years later, my prestige is at 0.

Suddenly, monarch dies. "Lithuania has become a sovereign nation!" I mouse over my Prestige and it reads Prestige: -0.13. it needed to be above 0

All that time of the PU, lost just like that. But there is still hope! I declare war on Lithuania to re-establish the union. Because of my previous westernization, I'm still behind militarily to my neighbors, including Lithuania. On top of that my prestige give no bonus to army moral. I just barely lose the first major engagement of the war. Lithuania has more troops than me, better troops than me, and higher moral.

In a few years I lost a big part of my empire, lost my union partner, and then lost in a war to my union partner. All the while I'm behind all my neighbors in tech, and have a massive coalition against me.

Current game with Russia. Attempting my first WC. (Picked something easy)

I've dealt with 3 12 year regencies. All under 2-2-2. Apart from that, I had a ruler live to 74 that was a 1-3-2.

10 minutes ago my 5-4-5 ruler died at 19. Leaving me into another regency for 13 years for a 0-1-2 ruler.

I'm over 25% behind in tech on everything except military (10%)

This game is most likely ruined, even though it's only 1608.

Since I usually tend to play Inca or other New-world nations I really dislike the permament "anti-pagan" CB, which causes pretty much any somewhat colonial power to spam wars against you (even if you crush anything that comes your way), what I would prefer is that the CB would expire either after the colonial power lost a war agains them OR after the "primitive"nation westernized (thus not being primitive anymore).

My most frustrating game ever, I had started an Ironman as Milan, and within the first freaking month my king died and I became the Ambrosia Republic. Which resulted in Austria(HRE Emperor) and Tuscany attacking me, and tearing me apart. I had literally done nothing yet in the game and my country was already torn apart, I tried to play through it, and after the war was lost(Parma to Tuscany) I began to rebuild, by this time though Venice had made a claim on my lands and attacked, my broken nation had no armies and I was destroyed.

So I reset the game, played a new Ironman, allied Naples and Switzerland, and jointly we took most of Venice before the Ambrosia Republic happened again, all in all that game worked out much better, ended up taking Sicily from Aragon with Naples, and then I took Tunis and Algeria a while later, I began a expansion into Africa and eventually South America, but pretty much left Europa alone.

2 Games with Brandenburg --> Prussia --> Germany where one time the HRE formed insanely huge and with me and France losing to them in the war (I was Germany), and the other time as Prussia when Austria got insanely huge and the Netherlands never revolted. They annexed most of the German states east of the Netherlands too, or actually all, and made it impossible for me to do anything. Yet again they were to powerful for me and France to take on. It seems every time I play Brandenburg I start with Austria as a close friend and end with them becoming so powerful I can't do anything. I'm in my third Branderburg game now as I wanna try to do it and now Austria annexed Hungary via union, and I thought "cool! that made this historically accurate in terms of how Austria became", but boom now they are against me and France hasn't even allied me. Damn Austria. I've basically never had problems with France, it's that darn Austria.

Third game as Branderburg. Made progresses, got the biggest I've become. Austria obviously managed to annex Hungary as I said earlier. Lost an allience to France and got an allience with the U.K. Somehow got a gigantic coalition of stupid a*****e states like Saxony that wants to call in Coalition Casus-Belli. I had an allience with the Netherlands, and have still, but I lost France due to tons of rebellions due to said wars. Man I HATE Austria, they always get insanely powerful in my games :(

Golden Horde Ironman game. I'm trying for the Great Khan achievement and I thought I got all the provinces. Then I double-checked the map and realized that I needed to take Kaffa... from the Ottomans. We were both about military tech level 25 but I knew it would be painful because I still had horde units. And the war was indeed painful. To win any battles, I had to outnumber them at least 3 to 1. Ouch...

Yeah, had to turn on them for Kaffa too. Was not that bad.

I finally survived as Navarra, ate a bit of Aragon with the help of my best buddies France and Castille.

Turns out they weren't really my buddies...

Next time enable troll mode namely local nobility 2nd idea from aristocracy. That way noone will ever bother you whether you're different religion, on lack of manpower, coalition etc.

Byzantium game.

Got a member of my ruling dynasty as the heir to the throne of Poland, naturally, I was delighted.
Months later, I decide to buy the Res Publica DLC, completely forgetting about this particular save.
I load the save, and suddenly little Alexsander is no more, replaced by a bunch of foreign candidates.

In desperation, I switch to Poland and kill the current King. Heir vanishes. Replaced by random Polish dude.

Flip table.
