What is the best encirclement you've pulled off? How many units did you encircle, and of course, eventually crush. It would be interesting to see a massive encirclement that failed and lead to your eventual destruction, as well.

Playing mod34 as the Soviet Union, my army was mostly infantry and motorized (I intentionally stayed away from Militia for some extra challenge). The Germans were never able to grab more than a hand full of provinces during their summer offensive, and as soon as fall came I started pushing them back.

The Polish pocket shown on the image below consists of 119 of Germany's forward units. Needless to say, I immediately collapsed the pocket and wiped them all out. The sweetest aspect of this movement? In March, Germany had 206 total land units. By mid-April, Germany had only 87 land units, mostly rear guards. :) That is a 57% reduction in armed forces by one maneuver. Beat that! :D

A cheap tactic as Germany is to invade from Finland and the Caucasus and encircle the entire Soviet front. Doing this I captured approximately a whole lot of divisions

I haven't pulled many great encirclements, but the biggest one is probably when I was playing as the USSR and I managed to find 65 American divisions twiddling their thumbs in Az Suwayz (prov to the south of Port Said). I obviously destroyed them, but what they were doing where is beyond me. In the same game, I also found 55 more divisions on 1 province doing nothing in the middle of Libya. Needless to say, I was worried as to why they were there.

well its pretty far fetched.. and your probably like "PFFT YEAH RIGHT!" since I don't have any proof but,

as France in 1948, I encircled 200+ Russian divisions in Warsaw. Took a hour to finally grind them down.

Go look at one of the AAR's where the dude exploited the massive speed of individual HQ's (12?) to break through in Romania, and encircle all the soviet troops from the Crimea to Leningrad - the entire Eastern Front. In the 1944 scenario.

That is a massive encirclement :D

As Germany, I always dash straight through at Lwow, cross the river south of Kiev and create pockets by holding a line from Melitopol to Smolensk to the Baltic. Probably somewhere around 150-200 divisions get trapped and destroyed. After that, it's just a matter of getting all the BP cities and waiting for the event to fire.

As Germany encirled 250+ Soviet divisions within the first 36 hours of Barbarossa in one encirclement of only two provinces. Took me weeks to beat them in it though.

Basis for this was an interesting exploit. As we know the Ai hates Partisans, even those of their enemy. Ever seen them bomb the guys that pop up behind your front?

Now in late 39 there was an uprising at the (peaceful) German-Soviet border. I killed the Militia, but since the province did not hold any IC, i did not reconquer it, so to save some partisan TC load.

What happened now is that the Soviets found a partisan province bordering them. As we know everyone is at war with the partisans. At the same time i stilled owned the province, so they could not move in.

A front -> send all units there. :D

Wow, that's very interesting. I hadn't thought partisan-contolled but empty provinces could be such magnets for AI troops. Hmm I wonder if TRP AI can be suckered into that... :p

As USSR I once encircled about 100 axis divisions in Belarus and the Baltics by first cutting deep into southern Poland with a couple of 12 div tank/mot corps, then going north to the coast, and at the same time with a smaller offensive down from Estonia along the coast. This was in summer of '43 and with edited difficulty level. The mopping up was still difficult because the axis units had dug in heavily.

I once encircled the entire Soviet army in a massive pocket along the Asian countries, with the Pacific Ocean and the White/Baltic Seas cutting off their escape.

Took me more than a year to reduce the whole thing, but I was able to annex them once I took Vladivostok.

As the soviets I encircled 239 US divisions in Macao. In all fairness though, I didn't encircle them. They landed there (Portugal had joined the Axis) whilst I was working my way through Nat Chi. I had already destroyed the Germans and had decided that the best way to export my communist utopia was to declare war on everyone.
By the time I had made it down to Macao, there were over 50 divisions there, too many for my low force density to deal with until after I had taken the rest of China, so I left a couple dozen militia units in the next door provinces and carried on. More to let me know if they started moving than to actually stop them. I also set my Pacific fleet to convoy raiding to start reducing their supply stocks.
When I finally came back to them a couple of months later, Patton's expeditionary force consisted of 234 US divisions including a lot of armour, and 5 Filipino divisions.

They were also very hungry.

In terms of non-Barbrossa action I killed around 100 allied divisons in Gibralter and south Spain playing TRP. It took a year to destroy all the convoys, destory and infrastructure, and finally be able to mount an attack that could win. It was bad enough with manpower losses and troop diversions that with Sealioned as well I wasn't even able to attack the Soviets till 1947 when they attacked the allies making a Siberian front to divert their attention. The save game got corrputed after that, but thats another problem.

I did manage to encircle something like 30 soviet divisions in romania in the götterdämmerung scenario once.

on second thought, I did encircle over 40 french divisions in Freiburg and Friedrichshafen.

But that's neither such a great achievement, nor a hard undertaking

I'm not an encirclement kind of guy. I'm more like the "force them back through numbers and firepower, and then bomb them to bits" kind of guy. Nevertheless I have had my share of encirclements--my best would be in spring of '38 as Nationalist China (with CCIP and then I am screwing with the files a bit) when the weather broke and I finally had an HQ on the front to launch a decent offensive with...

So, I drove north from Taiyuan and Yucheng north, east past Beijing and into Manchuria. Suddenly I've realized the Japs have moved most of their divisions into Xibei San Ma (who was being overrun) and their rear is empty. So I'm free to drive all the way to the Mongolian border. :D

It took me three months to clean the mess up but I bagged about 90 Japanese divisions, even though I had no artillery, almost no cavalry, no armor, and two or three TAC's at most. :D

i believe remble in "Creek (wtf, shouldnt it be canoe) Without a Paddle" managed to kill 100 divisions and break the back of the Soviet army. i tried by opening up a hole in the line but they didnt exploit it?

anyways, on 36gc, in summer of 41, i made three incisions with panzers in the front line, 1 at stryj, 1 by kaunacus, and one by warsaw (the middle). encircled the entire soviet army save some stragglers that escaped. i didnt attack and other provinces with my infantry until i had a pocket. i also went through the middle to (a) close the trap"s" faster (there were 2) and (b) make sure that the side armies werent counter-encircled.
