Any thoughts on the first brigade you will mod in to add to the current oobs? Going by other threads, an assault gun bde seems a popular idea. I'm thinking about a light infantry brigade at the moment.

AT infantry.
Although not entirely realistic until 1943 ( and even then I doubt they were organized into brigades ) I'm a sucker for giving *really* low IC nations a way to deal with higher IC nations. I'm also a sucker for MDS mods, and we all know how prevalent things like RPG's are today ( once again, still not brigaded, probably ).
E : Although Light Infanty and whatever those amphibious tanks they used on D-Day were called also sound good.

I think I'm gonna try and build that special urban fighting elite forces I've always RPG:ed in HoI2... What should they contain:
Infantry
Eng
Sp/Art
And maybe some kind of commando, like MAR or PARA or something...

I think for urban infantry, you would be better off with high leadership infantry Brigades, an engineer brigade, and heavy artillery Brigade for reducing enemy defenses(sp-art would perform badly in urban combat).

Personally I want to create very low mobility fortress Brigades, with a large defensive value, and very low offensive values, for use defending beaches and islands, etc...

Why would SP-Art fair any worse than regular Art in urban combat? The only real difference ( AFAIK? ) is that one is mounted on a tank body and that the other isn't.
Also, I don't think the OP meant division designs, but rather *new* brigades to mod in :).

I might create an inexpensive 'garrison' infantry brigade that has a low manpower and abilities score but high suppression value. Its not terribly imaginative, but its all I can think of on the spur of the moment.

I was thinking earlier how I would probably build my initial divisions as straight square infantry. Then, at the start of a campaign, I'd build a bunch of MP brigades solo. Once the campaign is finished, I'd take the lowest experience divisions and chop them into individual brigades and add an MP to each. Voila! Garrisons.

With the new system, I can build square divisions and just chop them up as I need other things. Not sure how upgrades are going to work, with mobilized and mechanized, so I don't know whether building is better than upgrading, but plain infantry never really go out of style.

The whole point of SP/art is for mobility to keep up with fast moving armored columns, why waste them in urban combat, where they would be especially vulnerable to enemy infantry attacks?
Large batteries of heavy artillery are much more useful for saturation bombardment, which would prove very useful in dealing with dug in infantry.

Motorcycle messenger/recon brigade... low combat value but increased movement over lower infra. Maybe bicycle brigades for Japan and China.

Brigades that I will add:
-Light Infantry
-Light Artillery

Brigades that I will remove:
-SH-A
-Rocket Artillery
-SP-Rocket Artillery
-AT
-SP-AT

And obviously some tech modding to rebalance the situation :p.

Why?
Why you are going to remove them?
They are more than realistic, historic and a must have for every big army.

Bah. It's not the Soviet Union without plenty of Katyushas! And hey, maybe they'll actually balance AT this time around.

I doubt I'll use it much, seems like a feature like SMAC's Unit Workshop, not much used after the initial rush.
