First Flashpoint I tried was "Joint Venture" (cuz I rushed to the first Steiner thing i could find) and it was 'only' 2.5 skulls and.... i have no lance left

Granted, I went into it with 2 vindi's a jenner and a blackjack just to 'see what it was gonna be like'

I was actually doin alright, got all the apc's off no problem, then.... then came round 2

Round 2 I was still feeling like "i got this" I mean, sure, I'd lost a building or two but the IMPORTANT one was still fine.... and they only had 2 'Mechs left.. one of which I'd just knocked down....

And then they airdropped 2 Hunchies, a Crab, and something else not nice, and...

I have no lance left...

*dirty joiks, gonna have to retry that one if i can...*

seems like there is some randomization involved then. The assault in the last lance for me was a 3 PPC tank, with 2 missile tanks and a jagermech as frontline.

Has anyone encountered a Flashpoint with Tonnage Restrictions yet? In anticipation of the expansion I eventually constructed a second Mechbay aboard the Argo and I hope that was not in vain. :)

First impression? Very good!

I continued with one of my saves after completing the campaign, so I can try some flashpoints straight away. Got offered the same as some other people, Joint Venture, and I liked it. Also, I'm getting used to the remodelled skills, so still doing a few silly mistakes until I adapt my playstyle. So, some points about Flashpoint (and 1.3):
- new animations look good, now the Argo approaches the planets braking! It was about time, Meyer xD
- timeline paused while doing missions: good for more money... if you don't get damage. After 3 or 4 missions (5 skulls rating) I had to let pass 3 days to repair two of my 3 Assault 'Mechs
- Black market! I also payed the 500k, not going to turn pirate but the black market can have something interesting.
- New 'Mechs! I already tried the Hatchet, beat two Cyclops (a pity I cored them out, now I only have one piece of each, and they were of different variants). Still haven't seen a Crab.
- Flashpoints (opinion after only one):
- consecutive deployments are fun (you can't repair, but can switch 'Mechs, refill ammo and recover armour), adds a bit of challenge
- some dialog lines are totally prepared for a particular situation, like the explanation to change one of your undamaged 'Mechs (and pilots) for a Hatchet and a random pilot. Although I'm not complaining, it was fun to try the Hatchet out =D
- for what other people mentioned, I guess that the OpFor is random (as for any mission, within amount of 'Mechs for each class), and to allow the players to obtain the Hatchet, the Hatchetman is a possible 'Mech for the OpFor... it does not make any sense in that particular mission (Joint Venture), but I can understand why it appears to some players (I was lucky and no enemy Hatchet)
- extra salvage/loot is amazing, apart from the normal salvage of the missions, I got a part of an Atlas, a full Wolverine, one or two parts of medium 'Mechs and some weapons and goodies (some were +, maybe ++, not sure now)
- haven't encountered a tonnage restriction, but looking forward to it

Probably I'm forgetting something, and some other stuff that I haven't seen it yet, but so far so good :D

What was the restriction?
I'm not that far in it ;) But it did say when I started that it has them

EDIT: I now got the option. Either I drop in a 50 ton mech or lie out of my rear and drop in with my Steiner Scout Lance

What mechs were they piloting?

Only did the Flashpoint with Morgan Kell, and he was piloting a modified Orion K with 2xPPC+ and 1xLRM10+. It's a 3-mission Flashpoint with no tonnage restrictions, and the player can't heal/repair the mechs between the first and second mission as you jump right to the mech and pilot selection screen for the next drop. But I took a break of a week to get all my Assaults fixed as well as my pilots healed before taking the third mission.

I'm now allied with House Marik and I'll be cruising about, seeing if I have any more Marik Flashpoints before breaking Alliance and trying another House. So far it's looking great, and I'm getting a bit eager to try out Career Mode. :)

So I have played the Steiner Flashpoint and my first thoughts were:

-I have been playing too much roguetech
-god the base game is painful
-I miss roguetech
-I can't wait to see what roguetech does with this new stuff

No offense to the wonderful work that HBS has done, but once you go rogue it seems to be hard to go back.

Flashpoints have been a lot of fun - and challenging for my mid-range company.

Really liking the dialog choices and that not every scenario chain has to end on a battlefield. It is feeling more and more like a TT game session to me with stories, politics and intrigue. Finally allied with Davion. Wondering what it would be like to go all in with the Pirates and play a band of scum :D

My favorite FP was
Bourbon and Battlemechs - with Mason's Marauders as the OpFor - truly a riot :)

Still haven't seen a Comstar event / FP / Mission - but I keep hoping!!

Career mode is a blast - love that we can hop right into in and not have to do the campaign again (though I do plan to go back and replay it again with the new features).

The team also did a great job cleaning up a lot of the little lingering file errors / typos. Which I applaud:cool:

Playing a pure stock game and enjoying the heck out of it!

That being said, so many new toys and options for the modders to play with as well - giddy with anticipation :)

I have the mod built and mostly ready. Just waiting to see if BTML/ModTek will be posting an updated 1.3 version. But I don't want this to derail the OP.

Liking the New 'Mechs though :D

Now that I got it actually working, I'm trying to find a flashpoint in the capellan constriction. Just found a King Crab for it, too.

I accidentally made my character useless with the respeccing as I didn't notice bulwark is different than it was in the public test version I have played the past weeks, what do I do with a skirmisher? Even 6 evasion pips and no enemy will miss, and I wouldn't expect them to, it's not like my end-game pilots go much below 70% hit chance ever. Bleh.

The missions that spawn reinforcements right on top of you are BS. If dropships work like that, why not just deploy giant bombs?

EDIT : Ooh, just got to my first flashpoint! And it's not with the Capellan Constipation for which I bothered to get the full respect bonus, but for house Steiner, against the Capellans. Never bothering to ask less money again.

I got to make a choice! The first option sounds really annoying, like a bunch of mechs will run into vision and guard all day while LRM carriers and Jagermechs pepper me out of vision, I assume. I'll take my chances with ? forces.

I think I know the one you are talking about - I took Option B as well - and man, that was a ROUGH deployment. 1 'Mech was wrecked, 2 were crippled and 1 MW died :( Then it went into the chained mission right after and I had to use 3 of my bench warmers and mostly 2nd string 'Mechs. Was very memorable and a ton of fun - but really harsh on my crew. Took almost a month for all the repairs and healing (and poor King slipped into a coma, luckily she persevered !)

Having a ton of fun with my new Flashpoint career. Yet to try out Flashpoints themselves as they are still above my paygrade.

Only thing that is really bugging me is the heat system. After having played Roguetech, the vanilla "take damage when over treshold"-system seems lacking when compared to Roguetech's variant. I love how in RT the pilot's skill affects the results of going over the limit and how it is a gamble with uncertain outcomes.

Was very memorable and a ton of fun - but really harsh on my crew. Took almost a month for all the repairs and healing (and poor King slipped into a coma, luckily she persevered !)

I assume you're playing a career mode thing? I deployed a lance of Assaults. "Keep up with us" yeah yeah we'll oneshot those random mediums and whatever that run out of the woods. If you have mediums yourself, though, I understand it could be tough, I ran into an Awesome right from the get-go (and finally, FINALLY, got my favourite mech!).

Next mission my client decided to replace my elite pilot and assault with his crummy Hatchetman. Serves him right, one of the buildings got destroyed because the hatchet pilot failed at everything.

Yup - career mode and had Mediums and Lights. Let me tell you - it was ROUGH... Then I went into the second fight with the Ally and 3 lights.

Starting a new career save, so it’s mostly been low-tonnage fights so far.

* Placement of Opfor and extraction points is better. Now that you can get to the extraction without fighting through the Opfor, hit and run tactics become more practical. I've had a couple of missions where I was heavily outclassed by the defenders, but managed to sneak in, hit the objective and pull out before getting trashed.

* AI seems improved; light mechs appear to be more likely to maintain evasion and manoeuvre for back attacks. Swarms of Spiders and Locusts are more interesting than before.

* Mission variety is increased.

Much of goodness.
