First Game - Germany
This would be good for any beginner, as it has strong economics, powerful military, gives insights into the wars, and has all the major necessities to begin a game with. Also, they are just super powers so I want to conquer Europe with them.

I think I will play the game in the following order:
1) Turtorial
2) USSR
3) Germany
4) USA
5) Britian
6) Japan
7) Italy

I'd like to try any country close enough to dominate the Middle East. Then I'd be rich, I tell you RICH! All that oil! I'd make the world bend to my will...sorry got carried away, I'd probably just end up some small S.A. country to get the hang of it all and then progress into the U.S. to knock on some facists!
Maybe Ethiopia? That ought to be a short game just to get a feel for some basics (and instill some humility) before taking control of a major power.
- Tutorial - to make sense of all the options.
- Germany - First Superpower.
- Albania - First Minor.
- Turkey - A nice middle of the road.
And then some of the other theatres of war like Japan, Argentina, and the Fascist Republic of Canada.
1- France: in order to have a short game by blockading the germans in germany and bombing the hell out of their economy.
2- Roumania: the minor every major like
3- Liberia: After 2 game I want to have a look at how the computer handle things off hands.
4-5: Italy or CW depends on who win last game.
6-7-8-9: my DoD fantasy: Italy turn Commies and French Facist in reaction , CW fend alone the democrats cause.
And a Polish '36 fantasia , of course. Polish-Lithuania Commonwealth return ( and wasn't so much happy )
Countries I wont play:
- USSR: too big, too easy, too cumbersome.
- USA : Boooorrrinng.
- Japan : Too much navy oriented, too complicated, too much micromanaging invasion forces everywhere on the map.
- Switzerland: more boring than USA.
- Germany : just because everyone else would play it at last once...

Well, it seems that whenever this type of post comes up, I change my mind (so about evry two days...) but at this stage my top 10, with the lower 5 in no specific order are:

2.Australia-good Minor, learn the ropes, my own country...3/3!
3.Denmark-Elect a government that leads me to a Nazi-alliance, scandinavia is mine again!(with some german support)
4.USSR-Good one for my first major, improve air force and blow up Berlin
5.Netherlands-Try and hang in there, a bit easier then Belgium

Germany of course. There is nothing more appealing than getting your nose bloodied at your first fight! However, it would be interesting if you can push the envelope for Germany as early as 1936 for Austria and Czechoslovakia? What's a madman to do in 1936? Putting full diplomatic pressure onm Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Greece? What's the focus of your industry? Forget naval power for now and concentrate on fighters, tactical bombers, armor, artillery and infantry. Reduce ICs for consumer goods (you are a facist state anyway) and put your economy on an earlier war footing. Increase research also on industry-mass production rules! Sure footprint for Axis success would be Poland-France- then focus on North Africa while building up your naval force then and fortifying in the east. You have a window of six years to near the end of 41 before the US throws in its lot with the allies - prime time to build your resources, research, armed forces and consolidate your hold on Europe and North Africa. Bwa-ha-ha-ha

I think Italy is a good nation to start it off with. Not so big that you lose focus, but still has enough assets to accomplish something. Italy starts at war with Ethiopia, which means you get some training before the action starts. With historical progression you get to fight against progressively stronger enemies (well, more or less). It usually more fun, and easier to play an agressor, atleast when you are new to a game.
Another good thing about Italy as a newbie is that your sides performance is not that dependent on your performance, you can usually count on your ally Germany.
