My first game was as Austria. I didn't inherit Hungary (and didn't know I was supposed to). Instead I went on a conquest spree to connect my Dutch provinces to my Austrian mainland. In the abdication event, of course I dumped Italy and kept the Netherlands, because what was one province (Milan) compared to six? Not knowing the magic of missionaries, I resolved to ignore Protestant religion provinces because I could only max out two religions on the tolerance slider, and my choices were Catholic and Reformed.

In the end I controlled all the Catholic and Reformed provinces in Germany. My empire stretched from Danzig in the Northeast to Steirmark in the southeast, the Rhine in the southwest and Calais in the northwest. Amazingly, Denmark controlled all of the Protestant provinces in Germany, and its orange color speared into Germany surrounded by my territory all the way down the Wurzburg.

My first game was with EU1, with Spain. I conquered much, screwed my economy (dire memories, those :eek:o  ), and launched a crusade against the turks.

And my first game with EU2 was with France, 1419. Colonized the whole America, conquered most of Germany and Italy, teched up quickly, and overal ended with a big victory and a great mess with Napoleon when I discovered the effects of high BB (how appropriate :D ).
But I had had a long practice of EU1 before, I prepared thoroughly my first game and was very cautious. And I infuriated when I saw I couldn't annex big countries in one go. :)

I remember thinking how stupid that was and I don't know how many complaints about it I've seen in reviews. But now I think its a really good thing in that it makes expansion a lot slower and controlled.

Played France.... screwed the economy. Hedn't seen i could move tech sliders. Decided to give right away to France it's nowaday size. So wouldn't accept peace with England before getting all my provinces back. War finished when rebels took over England. I ended up with most of England. Then i turned to my vassals.... and declared war with them :p
By the end of the XVth century, France had about the proper size. But then.... what the Hell ? everybody is declaring war on me ? I war them... but i can't surrender under any circumstanecs. So i fight like a devil.... and i grab all the land i can. Hey ! last war ends and nearly right away, they start attacking me again :( what are they doing ?
Several games later i understood i had experienced my first BB wars  and not my last ;)

With Japan, GC. Surprinsingly, I managed to survive Sengoku Jidai, although the Chinese took over Hokkaido. Later, they were struck by massive rebellions and I managed to take it back. Got an explorer and expanded south. Finished 3º, in Very Easy, of course.

With Poland, and that was a disaster. Much like most other first attempts, I went bankrupt. On my second attempt I am Austria. Things are going much better, and I might even 'win' but that's after lots of pointers from these forums. The game is borderline unplayable without this forum help, but it's a great game once you know what you're doing.

It was with Poland in the 1492 scenario. Being ignorant about the effects of DP sliders and the scripted events, every bad event happened to me. I went bankrupt quite often. In this game Sweden went with a B choice in an event that made me thier vassal. I was afraid to break the vasallage for more than a 100 years! Eventually I did and to my surprise nothing happened. I also had a conquistador and he helped to set up some provinces in North America. Later on all those colonies were lost in peace deals. Finally the dreaded 'Partition of Poland' events came and I was happy to see that I had got not annexed right away. However my neighbours got greedy and I had to fight a two front war againts Russia and Brandenburg and give up Pommern. I finished the game keeping all my initial borders and I was very proud of myself.

My first game as Sweden in Age of Mercantilism. I thought; "Well, I'm a great strategy-gameplayer so I can take on everyone". I first attacked Russia, Denmark and last Poland. I sent my mens into Russia, ignoring Winter. Then, when my army was defeated, I thought Artillery kicked ass and starting build Artillery as Hell! When I had about 360 of 'em I attacked the Russian main Army with about 40 000 soldiers. Well, you must know how it ended

The same story as in Worst Players :p

Hello!

I just finished my first Game.
Spain was my "tool" to rule the world.
I think i totally ruled the game (thinking of it as my first time playing).
At the end i had nearly every province in America except the snowy ones...
Europe was mine except greece and turkey.
It was so much fun.

Here is a screenshot of "my" Europe:

(Spain is yellow ;-) )

€: i think i have to say that my stability costs went above 40000 D....

But then the 1749-bug struck (does anyone remember that one?)

If we're thinking about the same one it was the "1750"-bug IIRC. The game (almost any game?) crashed in early 1750 and no one knew why. I surely remember it

Even Johan could not solve it until the correct solution was suggested by some genius. What was his name?

But this was way back in winter 2002. You must have reregistered! :)

My first game i played as China and i was wondering "what a stupid game: only thing i got to do is fighting rebels" and "how the hell will i spend all money i earn" becouse i was minting all the time.

I didn't read instruction nor play tutorial, becouse i was a hardcore HOI1 player and i was sure that i'll not like EU2 and will never start play it seriously :p

One of my first games (i had no idea about BB yet) was as Milan, that ended in war with all countries in Europe. Having no idea what happend i discovered that forum :)

well my first game was less than a year ago. Actually a couple of false starts, then a game.

I dove right in as England, thinking it would be an easy start, forgetting Id be right in the middle of the HYW. Not understanding the combat system, I was overwhelmed.

I then started as Castille, made a couple of stupid mistakes at the beginning (which I forget) and promptly started over, again as Castille.

This time I did ok, ending up dominant in Italy, controlling Spains historic empire in the New World, plus most of the USA. Not a great triumph, playing on normal, but it was fun, and I wrote an AAR based on it.
