I found EUII a few months after I discovered EU. I jumped at it since I had so much fun with EUI. My first EUII game was as England. For some reason I couldn't hold on to anything in France but I managed to capture a couple Scottish provinces, that was, until they took them back. I made a hasty peace.
My Navy saved my behind from total annihalation for awhile. I never used diplomacy in EU because I had not discovered the second page (the one with the gifts and warning and stuff), and Royal Marriages just seemed to cost me stability when I tried to declare war.
In the end, France would not make peace until I gave up tons of provinces, and Scotland took the opportunity to start the war up again the following month. Revolts, inflation, and the total collapse of the remainder of my Army followed in rapid succession. It was ugly.
I didn't come back to the game for two years, when I systematically went through all my old games deciding which ones to throw into the trash. It was one of the few games that still played on my new computer system at the time. I did fairly well, for a while, as the Iroquois, and never looked back.
Memories... I miss being able to play 'X-COM:UFO Defense'. The DOS emulator only let me play one month of that game before it crashed out. At least I have EUII v1.09. Kudos for 1.09! (Is it just me or is the computer smarter about sticking with a siege these last few patches?)
