Ideas towards production, morale regen, goods produced, stability cost, religious unity, infantry ability and maybe leader shock. I'd like to fit reduced autonomy in there, but IDK

Catholic religion

Not decided on Black and Gold or Black and white flag just yet.

OPM would be a hard start, but catching England in the middle of the HYW and the war of the roses could be interesting, sneak some land from Ireland and go from there

Kernow, I'd be interested in trying this out too.

Yeah, this is pretty much a "conquer Ireland, basically play as Ireland" game. You don't have too many other options (you can't do anything against England, HYW or no).

Unless you make more custom nations! You can make 32, after all. So, make more nations for Wales, Kent, and Northumberland to split up England a little more. Maybe do the same with France so it's not even more one-sided (even just replacing a few vassals with independent states could go a long way). For more local fun, break up Scandinavia a bit too.

Of course the "just go Ireland" option is still there, but you could fix that by creating a united Ireland as well. Or maybe a split Ireland between two nations vying for control -- that's probably even more fun.

From there, what you do (apart from Day 1) is mostly a result of the alliances that form between your new states. And that's a lot more interesting!

If you set available mercs as a tradition, you can jack your FL up pretty hard, hard enough that if England goes abroad you can stuff them with gobs of infantry + Scotland + tech lead + looting to fund it wins.

+100% is 12 FL, so you'd start with 15-16 (16 based on Cornwall's tax IIRC). I'm not sure that will be allowed though.

fair enough.. my apologies then.

But that 20% doesn't mean only 20% of player base does ironman.

It means 20% of all the sold copies of eu4 ever played ironman. And it might be only that 20% of all sold copies still play the game.

So it might be that 100% of player base plays ironman.

... just to say numbers prove nothing :)

Even common achievements like taking a province or doing a royal marriage have pathetically low rates. While there is the potential for some variance in people attempting an ironman and quitting quickly, or deliberately conquering nothing ever, I think it's fair to guess that the percentage of players who pick ironman and then deliberately avoid even the most basic achievements attained by playing the game more than a few minutes is very low, and that the achievement % for those is, while not perfect, a pretty close estimation.

Does England go abroad properly in the current update? Haven't watched the HYW play out very closely in recent versions.
