Probably meath, with the rest of ireland, wales and a few scottish provinces (around 8-10 provinces total)
Get myself a first idea of explorer, and a colonist as first ''idea''. The rest, probably decent trade/naval bonuses, with a mighty discipline if I can fit it in. Might go for a land leader fire/shock bonus tho, those are quite nice.

hindu religion + some random minor culture.

Because, hindu + religious idea, in the british isles sounds hilarious.

my first custom nation?

None.

Stupid feature really.

Just another feature that "allows" paradox to ask us money, and in the end noone will use it, because you can't get any achievements you want.

And to be honest, i think players care more about achievements then a custom nation.

People will prefer albania, wallachia, najd, ryukyu etc to get hard achievements more then playing a custom nation.

You could always make a ridiculously weak nation and turn it in a WC. That's an achievement in and of itself. And well, you can always mod a nation in yourself, if you're not interested.

Well, here's mine.

I think you will find that the stats suggest that under 20% of players have ever played ironman.

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but the majority of players DONT care about achievements.

My Custom nation will be some kind of Celtic nation. Lots of infantry combat ability, forcelimits, discipline and manpower. Reconquer Europe.

fair enough.. my apologies then.

But that 20% doesn't mean only 20% of player base does ironman.

It means 20% of all the sold copies of eu4 ever played ironman. And it might be only that 20% of all sold copies still play the game.

So it might be that 100% of player base plays ironman.

... just to say numbers prove nothing :)

My list so far with ideas from this thread (probably for one game):

- Knights of Templar (somewhere in America). With idea list being close to Assassin's Creed universe.
- Assassins Order (whats the point of Templars without Assassins :p), maybe in Naxos or somewhere in Italy. Traditions and ideas as close to in-game philosophy as possible.
- Christian state in southern India
- Chinese state in California
- Vinland
- Maybe some Sami state in northern Scandinavia
- A merchant republic in Gulf of Persia
- Atlantis/Troy/Nova Roma in some of the Atlantic isles.
- El Dorado in depths of Brazillian jungle. All ideas and traditions focused around maximizing money.
- Baltia - a state consisting of all islands of Baltic sea.
- Sparta.

Nice generalization, anything to back that up with besides toilet paper?
I know a lot of people who play EU4 on non-ironman, and just because it's the way you like to play doesn't mean it reflects the majority, I'd have to assume people who play on non-ironman are a silent majority, and the reason they're a silent majority is they don't get to talk about what achievements they got, most of the time all they have to show is their empire.

Whether or not it's a stupid feature I don't know because I'm probably biased and it's still very WIP.

Ah, "to be honest...". That glorious statement that means the following bears no confirm able relation to the world other than that it validates my own opinion.

I have played EU from the second iteration and have never had any interests in acheievements. Why do I need a box on Steam to validate me as a player.

I have never been tempted to play Ryukyu or Albania or A.N. Other because I have no interest in a long slog battling/taking advantage of the rigid game mechanics.

What brings it to oife for me is not the mechanics, but the stories (which mostly come from my head). Any attempt to increase the possibility to use my imagination in the game is a positive step in my mind- rather than introducing new mechanics that I will have to learn to overcome.

I was thinking on al-Qadim, a sunni arabian nation, "colony" in the deserts of Mexico. Probably small, and well balanced.

That's some real serious mental gymnastics there.

Listen, I see you have a high opinion of yourself. That's good. Confidence is a good thing.

But acting as if the world revolves around you makes you an asshole. That's not a good thing.

So, remember...having a high opinion about yourself, good.

Assuming everything you personally don't like is "stupid", bad.

I mean, some people like pineapples on a pizza. PINEAPPLES. ON A PIZZA.

Here are some:

-Athenian Empire, the only surviving state from Ancient Greece;

-Roman Republic, a nation founded by a group of Romans after the collapse of the Roman Empire;

-Mayan Empire (I will need to replace the name "Mayan" with the name of a real Mayan city), an empire created by one of the powerful Mayan cities during their classical age. They endlessly advanced their technology, which is on par with the Europeans.
