Wouldn't work, when you form a nation like Prussia or the Netherlands as a custom nation, you still keep your original ideas.

Another cool ancient people to 'revive' could be Umman Manda, the 'mountain people' (almost synonymous with Medes, but a broader category including all scary epic edge-of-the-world peoples of the Zagros mountains.

Umman Manda: Occupying as many provinces in the Zagros mountains as possible.
Government: Tribal Confederacy
Religion: Zoroastrianism (once it's available)
Culture: Kurdish
The ideas should be heavily based around defensiveness and attrition, these are a mountain people. Also, perhaps bonus siege skill for generals and hostile core creation costs.

An idea for Sassanid fanboys:

In real life, the last Shah, Yazdegard III, was miserably killed in Merv after fleeing from the Arabs. However, a little-known development is the fact that his son and heir, Piruz III, tried to go on with struggle. He succeeded in getting support from the Tang dynasty as a time when China was at the height of its power, including in Central Asia. Basically it seems that Tang China viewed him as a card to create a client kingdom in Central Asia. This is a logical development as Chinese were used to the client kingdom formula to control their "wild west"; and from that point of view, well-informed Chinese officials would not have missed the opportunity offered by such a prestigious asset. Also Tang employed a lot of Sogdians, who were Eastern Iranians with strong Persian influences, so that world was familiar to them. Competition between the Arabs and the Chinese, now sharing a *loose* border in Ferghana and Central Asia, escalated to war: at the battle of Talas, the Arabs won a decisive victory, ousting the Chinese from Central Asia for more or less ever. The battle of Talas took place after Piruz III's death but...

So all this to say that an interesting alt-history Nation to play would be the result of a Chinese victory at the battle of Talas, taking place somehow earlier, with Piruz III's participation as a "Chinese" General/vassal King, resulting in a puppet Sassanid state in Ferghana, either keeping Zoroastrianism or, more probably, gradually Buddhist or Confucian, but no Muslim for sure. Of course you need to bridge the gap for Mongol and Timurid invasion: the Sassanid element is probably gone by the time EU IV starts, as well as the Chinese vassalage. But the Persian/Sogdian Zoroastrian/Buddhist element would have been maintained, with an interesting alt-history to draw inspirations from to design National Ideas...

Going further, remember that Timur Lang died just as he was planning a Chinese campaign: would not have the Sassanid ramp State in Ferghana be a useful ally to either him or to the Chinese? Now we are getting closer to EU IV's timeline...

A Custom Nations game;

For the Americas, not sure about the tech, maybe eastern, maybe western/muslim depending on origin and all of them colonization focused:

- Vinland obviously, no need to explain. Newfoundland-labrador

- Riu d'Or. Jaume Ferrer got a bit lost on his way south when his expedition dissapeared in 1346, and he in fact ended up in the Caribbean. He died on the way, but the majorcan crew of his expedition founded a Catalan Caribbean republic.

- Bretania; There was actually a widely unknown second wave of Britton migrants, after the one to Brittany, and it was directed to northern Spain, where they would end up being assimilated into the local population rather than take over. In the scenario they kinda refused to assimilate and decided to take their boats and flee across the Atlantic where the devilish Anglo-Saxons would never be able to reach them...of would they?? Florida-georgia

- Around the same time their Brittonic cousins fled Britain, some die-hard irishmen felt the urge to escape the growing English influence on their island, and sailed west. New york area

- Abu Bakr II obviously managed to get to Brazil, and established a mali sunni kingdom there.

- Vivaldi. Similarly to Riu d'Or, a Genoese merchant republic founded by vivaldi in the late 13th century in the Guyana area.

- Republica de Luna. Alvaro de Luna fails to take Juan II from his cousin's custody, and is forced to flee Castile. As all the others in this post, he choose the desperate western route along with his allies, who consisted in the lesser nobility and some rich traders, giving birth to a very strange breed of Castillian-caribbean traders who fought to control the unstable Luna Republic.

- The mandatory chinese colony in california.

- A japanese settlement in Alaska, founded by a Daimyo who fell out of some emperor's grace.

- A Malayan sunni republic in chili, yet another lucky lost expedition!

I still don't know if I want to change anything form the old world tbh.

(Can you guys think on any other areas that should be covered? Maybe a Kongolese pretender fleeing -oh surprise- west and ending up in patagonia?)

I like your Mordor.

My idea was to spawn big custom nations of Mordor, Isengard, Gondor, Rohan, Harad, Rhun, Dale, Dwarves, Green Elves, High Elves, Eriador, Gindabad Orcs, Angmar, Misty Mountain Orcs, all bordering each other around Europe, and launch a game like that :D

I like your Mordor.

My idea was to spawn big custom nations of Mordor, Isengard, Gondor, Rohan, Harad, Rhun, Dale, Dwarves, Green Elves, High Elves, Eriador, Gindabad Orcs, Angmar, Misty Mountain Orcs, all bordering each other around Europe, and launch a game like that :D

- Delving to deep - Rebels spawn as "Balrogs"
- Speak friend and enter - Allows allies to join the war at all times
- You shall not pass - Gives + 20 discipline to all armys within your terriotory that has lower stack count compared to the enemy
- Balins tomb - Destroying all moria`s armys will create random foe`s that will attack with great ferocity

If these idea`s are not in the game the devs have some work to do for offering a Lotr expansion designer.
