I'd really like to pull off an athletic "amazon" of a sort that's a melee/ranged hybrid with javelin and shield (maybe a spear too). A Scarlet Chorus psychopath ofc. It'd really fit the setting I feel.

It's not something you generally get to do in rpgs and throwing weapons tend to be sub par and annoying to use in these games. Tyranny looks like it could change that.

I really like War Mage background. For my first playthrough I would like to make a character without strong connection with major factions and the world as whole, and being sequestered and trained from early childhood is perfect for that. Also thing about him not knowing about family and supposed letters from them which could be forged by his masters is absolutely great detail, helping to create a psychological portrait of a man who deeply indoctrinated in Kyros's doctrine but also has deeply seated suspicion that everything he knows is a lie, which makes every choice in game justifiable.

For a skills I would like to use great opportunity made possible by Tyranny's skills system and create a classical battlemage - sword and shield for close combat and self defense and some of agressive magical spells like Shock, Frost or Atrophy to soften enemy from afar.

I was thinking of trying the spear and making a Spartan type character, but eh, the spear seems so meh.

Why? From what I've seen it's quite powerful. Even enemies that throw spears chunk player characters health quite a lot.

Honestly the animation is kinda meh to me to be honest. I don't think I would enjoy seeing my character playing with it, tho I guess I could grow to like it.

I'm definitely going to go with a magic user, though whether a "pure" mage or a fighter/mage hybrid type build I'm not sure. Currently leaning a bit towards the latter, but using unarmed fighting.

Character wise, not decided on the background, but I'm looking at playing someone who's basically just in it for herself. Not actively malicious, but she doesn't really care one way or other about the two armies, and wants to come out of the whole shebang a: alive, b: rich and c: powerful.

I'm thinking a roman legionary style noble with javelin shield as primary and spear shield as secondary.

Although I'm always going as a "almighty" mage (and War Mage fits perfectly) - I think i'll save it for second playthrough as in the first I'd like to get to know more about the world/factions/worldview of the ppl/choices. So i'll probably go with "Lawbreaker" for the first run as this background sounds both cool and fitting ;) Dual-wielding rogue that can weasle himself from any pinch and with couple of additional gold pouches when his at it (how did they appear attached to my belt? o_O) Smug and charming, yet won't think twice of stabbing you in the back when he smells any profit in it. Oportunist.

BG2 made me partial to the completely selfish wizard... Edwin was an amazing character imo, but it's been hard to play a character with a personality like Edwin in other RPGs, as the story is often focused on you making sacrifices for others... in Tyranny I suspect this might not be an issue.

Whether or not I'll be a mage though I don't know yet... it does make sense considering our position in the story... honestly this choice usually comes down to what mood I'm in when I start char creation lol

Alright boys and girls, after learning that finesse also affects spell accuracy, the newly-dubbed "Raistlin"-build has been changed:

Might 8
Finesse 12
Quickness 16
Vitality 8
Wits 16
Resolve 8

Subterfuge (quick x 1,5 + wits x 0.5) 32 (Increase this to 39)
Lore (wits x 1,5 + resolve x 0,5) 30 (Increase this to 32)
Parry (finesse x 1,5 + wits x 0,5) 26
Athletics (finesse x 1,5 + might x 0,5) 22 (Increase this to 35)
Dodge (quickness x 1,5 + wits x 0,5) 32

All base scores, not accounting for background or weapons training. It just so happens that these subterfuge and athletics scores are high enough to do everything we have seen in the first two hours of gameplay, on stream. We need 22 points - meaning if you get just 2 from your background and training, that everything (that we have seen) can be done. Raistlin ready to take over!

Anyone one else gonna play on hard difficulty or path of the damned? I would like to go PotD but I'm not into the big the if you lose one battle the save game is over in my very first game. If I'm able to take that off with some options I'd go PotD.

PotD isn't iron man. It's the highest difficulty, iron man is where you get one save. (it was called trial of iron in PoE)

Then I should be good to go. Knowing myself if I never play on the highest( Or one of the highest ) levels I will always be a mediocre player.

Tiral of Iron in these sort of games usually requires an intuitive amount of system mastery that I never quite reach. I've done 1 full hard mode play through of PoE, and a couple of nearly complete PotD playthroughs, but the people who do Trial of Iron successfully are people who have gone through that game repeatedly over and over and have extremely good knowledge of systems and encounters.

Where have you seen (site ?) primary and secondary modification point ?
I'll be honest with you: I just freeze-framed some stream, at one point, on the different stats, cause I was planning on spreadsheeting every background and weapon training. I do have everything included except the background, because I don't know the specific bonuses of each one.

That means I just type "Yes" where I have had my weapon training, and input my starting stats, and Excel tells me my base skillpoints :)

It wasn't on the wiki earlier - maybe it has been added. You can rest easy in the knowledge that my information is correct, however; or at least was!
