I've been struggling with this for awhile as I wanna do something new and fresh, as when I play RPG games I always tend to play the basic sword & shield. But knowing my play style and knowing I like to fight in the front lines, so its more then likely I'm gonna be a sword and shield tank:p . For the background I'm torn between learned man/diplomat and just your common warboy/soldier. I might end up going the diplomat route tho. For his 2nd weapon I'm not to sure as well, I just wanna be a front line fighter who's buffing his allies so if I see any good magics that hep do that also, I might get some magic for a 2nd weapon spec.

I see from the Skills Progression Video
( at around 4:57 mark ) that the Leader Skill is just want I'm looking for :)

I envision my 1st character who's name I'm not to sure on yet, is a learned man and a sword & shield tank leader who inspires his troops and companions, giving them buffs to carry on the fights and overcoming all odds. An inspirational leader who take his job as a Fatebinder very seriously he's truly believes in order and views Kyros as the quick's and only way to peace & order to all the lands in these chaotic times. A noble person, but don't let that make you think hes not above being ruthless, he understand sometimes savagery is need to get to the most effective results of order.

An admirer of both the Disfavored and Scarlet Chorus, he understand they both have flaws that hold them back from bring the best to Kyros army. He likes the Disfavoreds for the order within their ranks but hates their bigotry ways of viewing the people of the lower empire as being beneath them. The admire for the Scarlet Chorus come from their never back down against any odds enemies and their views on strength and weeding out the weak who would hamper Kyros from bring order to the realm. But he hates how the Scarlet Chorus lack discipline and let their lust rule them. Outta both factions he would come into odds with the unruly Scarlet Chorus.

His one and only ambitious goal in life is to see order brought to all the lands of the empire and be someone who help bring it.

Edit( I'm very confused at why a @DoctorJazz gave me a disagree, when this is "My" first character build lmao. )

Oh sorry about that. I was going to reply to your post and say I actually had a VERY similar character in mind, though for my second one. Someone who grew up wanting to be Disfavoured, a Sword-and-Board, but ultimately just filled with immense ambition to appease the Overlord and rise within the confines of their hierachy. It was on my phone and hours ago, so I guess I just missclicked before I just closed it.

I gave you an agree now instead, which is closer to what I was trying to do, anyway :)

Oh don't mind me I'm just gonna go put my head down in shame XD.

Anyway, but yup this is my guy in a nutshell! Tho I think he would have a tough time making evil decision cause overall his make up could be mistaken for a good guy XD. Thats why I say he would do anything for the quick way to order with in the realm :)

I'm not quite sure on the background just yet, but I will go for a melee damage dealer with 2-handed weapons and probably a bit of healing magic. It tends to be the style of character I play first in most games.

Magic is an especially prominent aspect in this game, just like Dragon Age, having and using it really distinguishes you from the common man. Being a mage you have a greater understanding of the nature and danger of dealing with other magically powerful beings such as the Archons, to say nothing of the Overlord and the terrifying Edicts that they issue. As a Fatebinder of Tunon the Adjudicator I must maintain cohesion between the servants and subjects of the Overlord. Therefore I plan on being a Diplomat with beginning specialisations of Frost and Lighting Magic, since Lantry will be playing the supporting magic user, I should take the role of offensive magic user to ensure maximum efficiency with my team consisting of Barik, the warrior, Verse, the rogue and Lantry, the support.

It's gonna have to be a magic character. Siding heavily with the Disfavored with a "don't give a f**k" attitude.
I'm interested to give magic in this game a crack what with the spell creator and that all skills/spells are on cooldown and not just limited per rest.

Probably some sort of magic/debuff build. And grab Barick, make him a tank, and than either Lantary or EB and have them as a healer/buffer/damage dealer type build and than just some sort of physical dps like an archer or assassin.

I am pretty keen though in another playthrough to do what Day9 tried to do, go with this sort of archer/debuff character. (I think I can do a better job than him though, not wanting to toot my own horn or anything). OR a 'paladin' type build with a tank/buff character build. Or maybe a full stealth character. Oh Kyros the deciding what build to go struggle has begun already...

I'm gonna take either the nerd-Mage background or the criminal one, focus on the intellect/persuasive stats and magic cuz spell creation looks fun.

I'm gonna take either the nerd-Mage background or the criminal one, focus on the intellect/persuasive stats and magic cuz spell creation looks fun.
While we differ on the backgrounds, my first character will also be a mage. I don't know how min-maxing will affect this game, but since at least my initial playthrough will be on the standard difficulty, having some dump stats (reduced to 8) on creation seems very feasible - and then as a mage you are not overly reliant on your staff-attack actually hitting, because of the reduced cooldown on spells from having high quickness; and your staff base stat isn't even finesse, either. Finesse and Vitality are easy dump stats. Might too, if "abilities" are seperate from spells, given Quickness lists "spells" as something on their own.
That is at least 4 extra points, and potentially 6. Easy game, folks.

In other words it seems as though, at least as a magic user, and with the right stat-distribution, that you can focus on solely spending points in support skills, easily. The issue is that your character has to actually use the skills to continually train them (aside from NPC trainers) which means that you're just giving yourself more initial openings, and possibly won't have all conversation options unlocked later in the game - as you will likely often make a choice between one or the other.

EDIT: These dump stats are especially possible because dodge is based on quickness and wits, instead of finesse (which affects parry and athletics, the first of which is useless for a ranged character and the second of which will likely play a big out-of-combat/roleplay role).

A quick calculation from a 8-8-16-8-16-12 initial statline gives base support stats of:
Subterfuge (quickness x 1,5 + wits x 0.5) 32
Lore (wits x 1,5 + resolve x 0,5) 30
Parry (finesse x 1,5 + wits x 0,5) 20
Athletics (finesse x 1,5 + might x 0,5) 16
Dodge (quickness x 1,5 + wits x 0,5) 32

This is without taking bonuses from background and weapon training into account. Just pump 19 points into that athletics (fewer, depending on bonuses) and you should have everything earlygame unlocked, both from lore, subterfuge and indeed the athletics, with a likely high enough dodge for the same, if it plays a role.

I am probably going with healer diplomat that seem nice but it is a real asshole when it comes to final decisions.

As for the meta side of the RPGs which I am pretty bad at, I did try to read and view some videos about the attributes and classes. I wanted a character that could heal, buffs and be useful in combat but if I am not wrong you can only learn a specific healing class from one of the companion? the creating of spells sounds really fun and vigor is probably a good start.

I have yet to have a first character in a Black Isles/Obsidian game ever go according to plan, because their games' worlds always proves more interesting than my plans. "Oh I'm gonna go out and help the Wasteland with compassion and diplomacy" and next thing y'know, I'm covered in Enclave Power Armor, hauling a minigun that's got a dog brain as a targeting computer, and helping a self-titled autocrat conquer the desert with a robot army 'cause I like his sense of humor. "Oh, I'll be a badass, haughty Ixamitl aristocrat seeking glory," and by the end I'm playing a compassionate, caring therapist to my ragtag excuse for a party. "My main goal is ending my accursed immortality, all else is a distraction," but I just can't resist trolling everyone in Sigil with various wacky shenanigans up to and including winning a debate by gleefully committing suicide.

So screw it. I'm planning a spellsword type build, weapon and some sort of buff or debuff happy magic, and after that? The only sure traits for my first playthrough are "curious" (because of course I'm gonna exhaust dialogue trees when I can do so and read everything anyone puts to paper!), "moderately kleptomaniacal", and "not stupid". Not even sure about that last one.

I'll stay classic for my first playthroughs: some sort of intimidating soldier with a BFS and Athletics, and a highly intelligent mage dwelling in all things arcane. Specifics and order TBD. The only thing I know for sure so far is that my first character will be a no-nonsense Kyros loyalist. He won't be here to be good and smell the flowers, order must reign and all dissenters will be crushed!

I'm looking forward to builuidng a greatsword damage dealer with a lot of pure debuffing magic as secondary focus. If this game is comparable to pillars from an mechanics standpoint, that character should absolutely rock

First playthrough I'm gonna try for a Lawbreaker (I'm thinking Unarmed+Vigor spells? maybe?) who had been biding her time to oppose Kyros' Empire and its archons openly all throughout the Conquest and now stands posed to give what will probably be the hardest path to walk in this game a serious shot and fight back alongside the people of the Tiers (especially since I'm sure after a certain point practically everyone in the entire game will be arrayed against me wherever I go with kill on sight orders).

Second playthrough tho I'm going either Diplomat or Noble Scion and going cunning/power-hungry with, if it's possible, an eye to taking Kyros' throne for herself. I'm sure I'm going to end up doing dozens of playthroughs of this game lol

Anyone one else gonna play on hard difficulty or path of the damned? I would like to go PotD but I'm not into the big the if you lose one battle the save game is over in my very first game. If I'm able to take that off with some options I'd go PotD.
