I had one where my own mother was my ultimate rival and thorn in my side for years and years and years. She was the daughter of Matilda, and I was ruling the County of Lucca. Anyway she was my regent for a while so I pressed her claim for Tuscany and won. Then the damn lady decides to start killing her own kids, killed them all but me, and then to save my little count's butt I plot to overthrow her. Well i succeed and get her imprisoned, and banish her. All good right? No she got back into the realm somehow and started back upon her killing spree murdering her grandkids again. She was an evil evil evil woman.

In my latest game a family I raise to the level of Duke has plagued me for years. They're always up to no good and causing problems for me, including creating a 10 year long war that utterly decimates my entire realm.

I had a great rival in my current game, I stared as provence and eventually got italy, France and Armenia, my mother had a strong claim on the byz empire so when she passed I got a claim, the byz had a female emperor (MY NEMESIS) so I was able to press it. I beat her and took the throne, BUT she still had a 12 county demense and an additional 5 counts under her. My new goal immediately became that of breaking her power... However this former empress had other plans, since I couldnt revoke her duchies for 10 years she was able to form Taurica... THEN she really stunned me by pressing her husbands weak claim on hungry and installing him as the king of hungry(I wanted hungry to remain independent for RP purposes).

As I try to avoid murder sprees (which I think are lame) I commissioned just the one murder, that of their eldest (and only) son. This left 3 daughters and gavelkind succession. Next I invited and pressed the claim of some random hungarian JUST so my vassal couldnt inherit hungry. This entire time she was at -100 relations with me and I had my spymaster constantly on her trying to uncover plots so I could revoke Taurica and break her power base.

The funny part is I never caught her plotting and was never able to get her imprisoned... She eventually died and I was completely unable to break up Taurica, funnily enough her daughters have become good vassals, a little strong for my tastes but theyve never rebelled or even plotted against me.

THe highlight of this whole cold war I had with the former empress was where my dirty old lustful emperor (58) got the fling event with one of the old empresses daughters... Despite being the most powerful man in the world the closest I could come to getting back at this vassal was getting her daughter preggers :p

I loved this whole rivalry, especially since the AI actually denied me my ultimate goal :p

That guy who became Doux of Wallachia just before I could claim those through lands (through my heir's marriage to the Duchess of Turnovo). And the Basileus who gave it to him... and the Basileoi (?) who raised CA to Absolute... and the Douxes who voted for the law... so basically the whole ERE.

As Augstus of the Roman Empire? The Timurids and the Capets:
The Timurids are a thorn in my side because even though their stack is only 60k strong it still doesn't take attrition damage and it's hard getting levvies all the way to Iraq
And the Capets, while their kings aren't slow or imbecilic they don't seem to be the sharpest swords in the armory: they have enough land to form Hispania and Francia but they don't do either, needless to say they too can pull very large numbers of troops with which to delay my glorious reconquest of Gaul. A gain it's not so much as fielding enough levves but getting enough men alive to the fight before they starve
