Your biggest goof?

I've had a few bad ones, most of them when I first started playing. I had one goof that couldn't really be considered a goof, 'cause the AI caused it, but I'll post it nonetheless. I was playing as the USSR and I was gearing up for war like mad, so I could invade the Germans. I had couped Canada and installed a Stalinist government, and allied them with me (my plan was to invade Germany and afterwards the US). I forgot that Canada always declares war on Germany (around early 1940) regardless of who they're allied with, and before I had my troops ready (not to mention that a large part that I had ready was in the East, conquering Afghanistan, Persia and some of the Chinese warlords). Needless to say, Nazi forces were overwhelming and before I knew it the Germans had already taken the majority of the USSR and I couldn't fight back for shit. Just before I gave up I had one last look at Canada, and saw it was nice and quiet, sending me one tactical bomber as reinforcement....

I had my share of stupidities caused by AI too
But the biggest i recall doing, is fully nuking some country. And then I realized it will take me about 2 years to occupy it lands ( if the radiation dont kill me before), they (romania i think) were also allied with a major alliance and i saved after nuking

I goofed last night attacking Switzerland as Germany. The SU is finished, I've got the UK's home island, and I'm allied with Japan, so I'm cleaning up assorted small countries in Europe, Africa and Asia while building up my Navy and trying to kill the USN.

I've just annexed Vichy, and there's this off-colored spot on the political map right next door. I order my troops to line up on the borders, then go do something else. I come back in the spring, check the weather, and finding Switzerland pleasantly ice free I hit the DOW button.

Next thing I know Italy is down to 3 tech teams and my panzers are chasing the Swiss out of Venice. I forgot to put troops in Italy to protect them from the mighty Swiss.

I should have just set up a defensive perimeter around Switzerland. Maybe Italy would have surrendered and I could have annexed both of them. I should have a look at the Italian surrender event.

Better yet is to land at Greece or somewhere at that region and then loose Suez
canal to Italy and Gibraltar to NatSpain, even if you control all N-Africa coast you can't send supplies and your troops are doomed to die in slow, painful death.

Mine, well just last night I was playing a game as the UK and I moved my entire army into Africa to take out Italy as soon as they joined the Axis. I managed to take East Africa and Libya when I got a message popup saying the German AI had taken Dover so I put alot of my army from Africa into transports and sent them to the erm... Scapa Flow I think it was, one of the northern ones anyway. On route the transports met up with Subs and I ended up with only three inf units in Britain against 12 German Armour and Mobile units and quickly retreated to Northern Island and then got another popup saying that Italy was back in Libya.... within the year I ended up loosing all of northern Africa, all of Britain (though I still held N Ireland), and Japan well into India. My worst UK game ever

In an MP game, I was UK and managed to lose my mastery of the seas to...Vichy(AI). That's right, my two carrier task forces were destroyed by the Vichy navy in the Algerian coast.

Human-controlled Soviet Union getting pwned by AI-controlled Afghanistan. I had a 2 to 1 advantage and I still failed. It took me around 5 months to annex them, a war 4 1/2 months too long.

Although I do have to admit, it was 1937 and the army was mostly militia (I was testing them and the use of brigades to create a decent secondary army), but still I was losing to Afghanistan. At least until I had my actual infantry attack.

Playing as USSR...

Didn't imagine the Germans doing an amphibious operation. But they did. Once they landed, I kept calm. And didn't think if it as a big threat as they are just 3 divisions. But those 3 divs manage to cut off my northern front and is now threatening an encirclement. I'm now frantically stabilizing that front.

2.When playing SU in first game ever, I focused entirely on the Japanese. I managed to annex their puppet and got ready to throw them out of Korea when I saw that pretty announcement that Germany decleared war. :rofl:

I've posted this in another thread and thought it is supposed to be a goof!

I played Yugoslavia, done well in the begining.
I annexed Albania, turned my eyes to Hungary and steam rolled them. Then I got bold and attacked Greece, Turkey DoW me. I swept their resistance aside and annexed Turkey. After that I took a shot at Romania, struggled to win them but did it in the end.

Then I thought Italy looks nice in terratory that would look good in my colour, so I DoW Italy. I won a few battles, actually I conquered about a third of Italy before they brought me to a halt.
Then Geramny DoW me. Needless to say, I was screwed! They (Germany and Italy) rolled me up like a carpet.

My last goof was topped yet again. I was going to make a seaborne invasion of the USA. In order to do that I must land in Iceland right? I did so with 80 divisions, with another 80 coming in to complete my amphibious forces before taking Greenland.
Now someone tell me why Patton and 126 divisions of the US Army was stationed up in Iceland?! Needless to say my 80 divisions got wiped out without my knowing as I turned off the message box for when a province is lost as warfare was going very fluidly in Russia at the time, taking ground in one area and losing it in another. So half of my amphibious force was taken out, then the other half completely demoralized from the following amphibious assault to retake Eastern Iceland thinking that they were just being transported.
To make it worse I tried again backed by 20 Fallschirmjager divisions during the assault out of anger and all I got was the loss of my entire paratrooper force, with most of them having over 80 experience! I almost cried before reverting back to my save from the month before, made me sad though, and embarrassed enough to post here.

P.S: Russia also pushed me back and encircled about 30 of my divisions because I stopped paying attention, left a gaping whole in my line, I didn't think that the AI knew how to encircle?! Or were my troops "overran" in the Prypjat marshes? Because the Russians advanced two provinces ahead with tanks while my force there was infantry with artillery brigades. Either way...

I saw this from a couple years back, but I almost managed to lose the entire Home Fleet, as the UK.

I had moved them just South of Copenhagen, because I thought it would give me more time to evacuate the Danish troops as Germany could not attack directly. Anyways, that failed, and I forgot to move them, leaving them trapped in the Baltic. :rofl:

Fortunately, the Army was up to the task of liberating them, and a in and out operation was performed successfully, and we did not have to wait till El Alemein for our first victory over Jerry.

I did that once in a game as the Soviet Union, the one where Germany got annexed by France in 1935 in the mod 34 scenario. Except that I controlled Italy so it was my territory going down.

One of my first games as Germany. I had no clue how production or research worked. So I sat around and eventually annexed the Czechs. Poland accepted my demand for Danzig. I attacked Yugoslavia and won, abusing all the troops Italy gave me. Then I decided that Italy was weak, and booted them out of the alliance. I attacked Albania, expecting an easy victory (The Albanians didn't fight Italy in the "King Zog" event)

End result: The Imperial Albanian Army marching through Hamburg and Berlin.

(In technicalities, all my troops except 1 group of infantry were in the Rhineland, because I forgot they were there. The 1 group of infantry was in the middle of Yugoslavia when I attacked Albania)
