I was restarting a 1.8 game I've been playing for a couple of days, and I decided to deactivate the 'Republican music pack'--I think that's the one that has some very quiet songs that aren't really audible at the music volume level I use because of the louder Guns, Drums, and Steel pack.

When I got to the single player start screen, none of my save games showed up (all local). Brief panic. Then I realized what I'd done differently, quit out and restarted with the republican music pack active again, and they showed up fine. I had no idea that music was so crucial to existing games

Before you ask, yes I'm sure it was the music pack and not Res Publica, and I've already deactivated and reactivated Guns, Drums, and Steel several times.

you can (probably) force the game to show the saves even without the music dlc by clicking on the "show incompatible saved games" checkbox. I think this is because the game "registers" that DLC as "required" for that save game (it also does so for mods... that change the UI only).

I had the same issue with the Songs of Yuletide DLC a while ago.

There's an option to show incompatible save games. Click it, and your saves will show up, with a notice that they were played with the Republican music DLC. Just load them as usual - they will work. Music is important, but not critical. ;)
