you want sprites?

OK, it has come to my attention that, according to Supeerme, "there is a dire need for sprites".

I'm now going to upload all the WW2 sprites that I have here. These are the original sprite packages from the original makers, i.e. Puma and Bebro.
I can't remember where I got them from? Probably the AOD and HOI2 forums???

They are in the original packages, and NOT changed to suit Darkest Hour.

So, if you want the sprites to work, you will have to do the work yourself, as I don't have the time.

What do you need to do:

Well you will have to set them to L-1, L-2 and so on to suit the units in DH.
I would suggest you ADD them to the sprites already in DH, try them one at a time and see what you think.

I'm uploading now, and I'll post the link when it is done.

How:

Say you want to do tank sprites for dh.
Look in the db/divisions/armor file and see how many models of tanks there are.

Say there are 7 models?
Look in the sprite files and see how many tank sprites you have...?

If you have 7 models and 7 sprites, then you simply label them L-1, L-2... L-7.

If there are 3 sprites and 7 models, then you will have to have 1 sprite for a couple of models. Simple enough. Enjoy.

I'm sorry but I just can't do anything with them. My computer does not have the power to load all 8 gigs worth of sprites. If someone wishes to do this then good luck. My computer just can't handle the sheer amount of sprites.

Thanks for that, novapaddy. I already had the BeBro sprites, but the full puma pack was very elusive. You can usually only download it from the DMP site, but they don't send you the necessary activation code when you attempt to register and they never reply to emails pointing that out!

Didn't puma also release a couple of other sprite packs? I don't think that those were included in this.

Meanwhile, does anybody actually play the game with the full pack? I had to laugh as all those units flashed by during the set-up.

I've only had the chance to have a quick look at the soldier sprites so far. They appear to be something of a mixed bag, and to be honest most of them aren't really what I'm looking for.

But never mind. Now that you've posted up your tutorial for converting CivIII sprites we don't have to rely solely on things like this any more!

The idea is that you have a look in the bmp folder, find (for instance) the panzer sprite you want. Select all 17 versions of that sprite, copy and paste them to your desktop(folder). Then go to the spr files and find the matching spr files for the bmp files you selected. Again copy to your desktop. Then open up the spr file and see the palette file the sprite used, find that, and then put all the files.. after you have done the L-1 or whatever... into your DH folder.. gfx/units etc.. and play.

You don't need to do ALL the puma sprites, just pick the ones you want to have.

You might be waiting a while, Xie.

Converting the entire set is a chore no-one in his/her right mind is going to tackle sober. But if you pick and choose what you want, as paddy's suggested, you can get a single nation's sprite set done without going gaga. If you're an ultra-realist, though, I should note that for vehicles and aircraft in particular you'll want to visually check the sprite image against the model number. Because the DH tech tree varies from those for which BeBro and Puma created their sprites the model sequences don't always match.
