You think Upkeep Limit will be good for the game?

This wont automatically fix AI spam, but that is not the only reason to add this. It's to make the game better simulate reality and that naturally leads to more realistic behavior of the game. AI behavior depends on how the AI is coded. If there is slightly less equipment availible then all it takes is to make the AI not build much more units then they can equip.

No, I don't agree. That's my point. A permanent attrition would certainly not fix the AI spamming division. It's an useless feature.

It's also unnecessary detail. We could abstract that the cost of this is baked into producing the equipment in the first place.

If the AI is having a problem making lots of poorly equipped green divisions the solution is not to take a shotgun to a mechanic that broadly does its job in an attempt to fix something else that does not.

I am a bit confused by the nay-sayers in this thread. While it may not fix the issue you have with the game, so wont this change that much in the game nor hurt it. That it's not a catch all fix is not a reason to not make this fairly easy change.

But current system leads situations that your divisions don't cost anything anymore. When you have 300 divisions you can delete all your factories and sit 5 years. No effect in economy or nothing. If some upkeep cost then there will be atleast limit what you can support. No more randon tiny nation with 60 divisions who can still lendlease other nations, because his economy goes supporting his army.

Upkeep would not fix the AI spamming divisions, because the lack of equipment is not a problem for the AI which simply ignores it when making new divisions.

I have a mod where I added upkeep and some other modifiers. It makes a huge difference.

In MMOs (and paradox games) there is money (pounds, ducats, gold ...) for the maintenance of the army. If you arrive at 0 and you are in negative balance, the troops start to have low morale until they desert (ck2) or you start to make debts on debts until you go to the broken bank (victoria 2, EU4) and have heavy penalties if you go bankrupt . On eu4 there is a unit limit (land and sea) if you exceed it the excess troops cost double or triple upkeep if I remember correctly that to add up to the normal upkeep. Normally for merchant ships it is done because if you earn 100, at the cost of 50 ship maintenance, it is worth the penalty to have more bonuses ... On stellaris I don't remember (I don't play from the super armio patch from the megacorp one, I don't remember ), but if I am not mistaken if you go in defcit of energy credits you have malus to the army (and if you run out of food the population starts to drop, except if you are robots). So in all, I repeat ALL paradox games there is active maintenance. I don't know why paradox removed a lot of things that could have been at D1 in the game that created imbalances in the game. It can be understood from a new company ... but not from an experienced company like the paradox ...

That is the real question that we'll probably never get an answer for.
