i once eradicated a planet just because my sector decided to colonize a nonterraformed planet in my arctic purity RP game, after that noone liked me and broke the federation i was in so i decided to go on a purge rampage across the stars

but i do believe my inner demon is most of all looking forward to the time after banks when you can unite a federation into one empire - then i will go on a xenophilic pacifist crusade to unite all under one roof and once achieving that i will switch ethos to xenophobe so i can eradicate all the xenos

bloody hell, that should get and be an achievement :D

My most recent playthrough was of an exceptionally - aggressively, you might even say - friendly empire who's main goal is to achieve galactic peace & prosperity through making friends and having an exceptionally happy populace that is united under these ideals.

Making friends? Liberate and Vassalize - followed by integration once the puppet government has done its work converting them to my ethics. Also uplifting. (Especially if they are earth roaches, though they didnt spawn this round.)
Exceptionally happy populace? (Mandatory) bread and circuses for everyone!
United under those ideals? On top of the bread and circuses making everyone exceedingly happy, the bread genetically engineers everyone into conformists, and the circuses have mind control laser light shows.

There WAS that one big unfriendly empire of nasty slavers next to me that got eaten up by the unbidden before I could save them though. (Read as: I penned them in with the unbidden i summoned by stealing psi jumpdrives from a FE and they got eaten, before I swooped in and removed the unbidden, grabbing up all their territory)

In less than a couple centuries a galaxy of 1000 stars was one big happy family (including allies and loyal vassals)

When you spend years and year causing the apocalyptic end of your own species via a time-loop only to rise up again as rad-roaches-by-another-name, proceeding to use this newfound immortality to enslave everyone who isn't as durable as your kindred.

(Using mods) I once sterilized vast amounts of conquered xenos just because I didn't like them as much as other species in my empire, but didn't want to send them to purge camps either. Given that I was doing this on a scale of over a hundred worlds in a vast empire that spanned most of a galaxy, to dozens of species, entire systems began going dark eventually as pops died off and nobody moved onto their worlds to replace them. The only thing that made me feel bad was that my sectors were suddenly sending me less money as their economies crashed.

With Utopia coming up, I will soon repeat this (only without needing a mod to do so). Hooray for neutering!

One of these days I might do a playthrough aiming at being purely and unambiguously good, just for novelty's sake.
done it... still surprisingly powerful.. but that all depends on whether you think pacifism is good or neutral.. i'm thinking pacifists are dirty neutrals

... When in the name of the God-Emperor of Mankind you invade a pre-FTL Planet and enslave the entire population of the Xenos, forbid them from expanding their numbers, and move a maximum of 2 to each of your planets. When word comes down that an asteroid will impact the planet in a few days you evacuate your troops and leave the remainder of their species to their fate, being turned to ash in the following Extinction Level Event.

All Hail the God-Emperor.

Burn the heretic. Kill the mutant. Purge the unclean.

When you realize that despite claiming to be a Fanatic Egalitarian Xenophile you really only care about uniting and creating a safe and prosperous place for the rare humanoid species of the galaxy.

Also when you realize how content you are to make all near-humanoid shaped species 2nd class citizens and restrict to up most outter reaches of your empire, and mark all other species, as undesirables that most not purged, but forced flee into in the hands of you two nearest neighbors. The first a decadent xeno enslaving, Authoritarian militarist neigbor with whom you profitable trade agreements. The second a genocidal hive mind, whom you are secret planning exterminate to get access to more worlds for your humanoid pops.
