When you have an ally that's stuck with you through most of the game and gotten themselves hated by the rest of the galaxy for it, and you throw them under the bus because you have truces with everyone else.

When you can't wait to invade your cute starfish neighbours, enslave their people as cattle, make them delicious and nerve staple them to avoid objections. Mmmh, xenosashimi...
When those other empires have a +100 opinion of the Prethoryn because of the Mutual Threat opinion modifier. (This seriously happened to me in my first game. I was playing a Fanatic Individualist/Militarist empire though, so I didn't enslave or purge anyone, which puts me above 99% of the people in this thread.)
Now that's a fun combination.
I just can't be bothered with purging all the aliens though.
What setup did you use for that game?
Once I'm strong enough to take on the entire galaxy I usually have way too many xeno-slave planets to make purging all of them enjoyable.

I expected it to be a rather tedious process, so I was playing on a tiny galaxy, but with the new purge options coming in 1.5 I may try again on a larger galaxy. Could even take the "humane" option of sterilising species

I will try again with the Fanatic Purifier Civic though.
When you invade a primitive planet in your rivals territory, resettle one pop, set all the primitives to be purged, and then hand it off to a sector.
When the only reason you notice your sectors are purging is because of the diplo malus (and the economic crash).
