I think I'm learning I'm the "bad guy" from the fact that everyone keeps joining "The Just League" (I feel your pain, Wiz n' Cknoor) following my wars. To be fair, some of those guys were expansionist dicks themselves and had it coming. And to be fair again, more of those dicks tried to invade me and all I did was return territory to my vassal and slice a piece of them off as a new, independent kingdom.

I mean, sure, I also enslaved a lot of guys. But that's not the point!

I launched a massive genetic modification project on an entire species to remove their natural disposition towards slavery because I thought it was morally wrong.

I also introduced a ton of mind altering gas into their atmosphere (Lythuric Atmospheric Manipulator) and forced them all into reeducation camps so they would stop being xenophobes and embrace living in peace and harmony with all the other races of the galaxy.

It was then I realized I might be the kind of leftie that the right keeps trying to warn people about.

When I purged about 100 xenophobe pops just so I could get across 6 systems to conquer some arctic pops with tolerable ethics to colonize 3 planets with 80% habitability.

The fact I'm fanatic militarist somehow makes me think I'm the bad guy in this galaxy.

Your main goal when invading a foe is the acquisition of slaves, purging all the rest, and filling their old worlds with your own people.

Also, when you refer to all aliens as "Xeno scum" and precede your empire's name with "The Glorious". (I.E. The Glorious Terran Star Empire)

Thanks to Hyperlanes I have cut off 1/4 of the galaxy as my own. Now I have these ugly smaller blobs messing up my name on the galactic map. I am removing them just so my name will be nice and neat. I think that might top the genocide and enslaving.

... you decided the Orbital Mind Control Laser is more valuable than solar panels on your stations...
What I see is you care for your pops mental health and hate hippies.

A just liberator.
... The entire galaxy allies against you because you're "genocidal". Honestly I think they are just jealous of my large empire.
Modest expansionist.
You integrate then immediately enslave your vassal's whole empire
Equal opportunity employer.
I think I went off the deep end, enslaving everyone, purging pops, terraforming planets full of pops and enslaving them to keep them from getting out of control during it, spamming mind control lasers everywhere...

I also enslaved robots and caused an AI rebellion.

One thing in particular almost made me feel bad, I took this ocean planet of fanatic xenophile pacifist crabs who seemed actually happy (miraculously, given my policies and genocide and slavery and all that) with my reign, but I ended up terraforming their planet to a desert while enslaving them, then purging most of them and moving in with my own native pops.

RIP crabs.
Equality.
When I need to colonize a planet with a different climate, I search for nearby empires with that preferred type.
Consideration.
...when you start guaranteeing randoms hoping for an excuse to blow shit up.
Peace keeper.
..when you use your fanatic xenophile edict to invite lots of fresh faced aliens into your empire, and then immediately enslave them all because you're a transcendent empire.

Dick move, xenophile spiritualists, dick move..
Galactic homogenification.

You went through all of that to make your people happy. :)
You can do this in Stellaris? You're sick!

Wow my first game is individualist so I haven't been able to do a lot of the evil stuff you guys have mentioned. But, I still feel like the evil empire because I decide to DoW my neighbors and conquer their planets because hey I gotta do something with my military!

If you are a democracy with a rather large defensive only navy, of course, and are surrounded by opressive regimes (As in, anyone not you or your allies), why not send your fleet to liberate the opressed and show them the glorious ways of democracy? Of course, they'll need your enlightened guiding hand, so their freedom must come with a client state clause.

I find 3 planet states are quite okay with being client states. 4 or more find themselves quite arrogant, think they can face the galaxy alone. Poor, naive children... If they do that, show how they cannot stand alone, by enforcing your overlor... offering your protection, but this time in a more... resolute... way.
