Another audiction, here i asking the community about your play mode: its is vanilla or modded?

And what the game needed for you give a try in vanilla? What the flaws that should be corrected in the game?

And if you play vanilla, you do an historical or ahistorical play? How your feel about the state of game itself?

Sorry about that, but i doing this because in some time before i heard about being nearly-impossible to play the game in vanilla, so i think the devs improved the game from back the day that i mentioned, but idk what is the opinion of community so i asking here.

:p

With some sort of mod 95% of the time.

Sometimes I'll do vanilla just because I haven't in awhile and want to have that vanilla feel. I don't feel like getting into flaws—that list can go on. But, so can the list of great aspects.

Whenever I do play vanilla, (or even just non-overhaul mods such as Player-Led Peace Conferences), which country I play depends on my preference for historical or ahistorical gameplay. As the Soviets or Americans, I play 80% of my games historically. As the Germans or Hungarians, I play 60% of my games ahistorically. This is just personal preference for how I want my game to feel, the scenario to play out, and which challenges to overcome.

My modded gameplay uses mods such as Player-Led Peace Conferences, the Darkest Hour graphics mod, and State Transfer Tool among others. I would say that about 50% of my games use this set-up with the vanilla focus trees, scenario, and timeline. The other 50% of my games are with the USA States mod, Random Country Placement, 1930 mod, Millennium Dawn, the Great War, Battle Royale, Infection, etc to spice things up every once and awhile.

I think that, in general, I've got nothing wrong with vanilla—though improvements are warranted (as I said, it's a long list many other players will be happy to rant about). But, sometimes I like to play with mods which give me even more options than are already presented. Maybe this means a different kind of Second World War, a different time period altogether, or a crazy scenario that creates interesting new storylines and experiences all within the integrity of how the game functions mechanically.

I always play modded.
I always play Ironman (unless MP).
I only use mods that are compatible with achievements/vanilla MP (except total overhaul stuff like Kaiserreich).

As for historical/unhistorical: I like the chaos of unhistorical but most of the times I play that variant that gives me the best base for my current achievement run. For example making the Gran Colombia achievement (in the version it was released, don't know how the new USA focus tree changed that) was almost impossible (or at least very, very hard) with unhistorical setting as USA tended to make the Pax Americana focus very early in unhistorical.

I used to hop between modded and vanilla but now I just play vanilla but whenever I come across something annoying (no way of getting the French union to fully succeed outside of rng) or something that might be OP that I think would be fun (Forming the turian empire after the Ottoman empire) then I just add it to the game.
Knowing how to mod Hoi really does just make it better as you can tailor it to how you want

I can't play vanilla anymore due to bugs and more bugs and design errors, I only play modded, specially Kaiserreich.

Always with mods like Coloures Buttons and Coloured Events. Rarely I use overhaul mods like Kaiserreich or Expert AI. I try them, but very soon quit them and go back to "vanilla".

I'm an achievement hunter, so that's vanilla with only minor graphic mods. My playthroughs may or may not be in historical depending on the achievement I'm trying to get, if it doesn't matter I default to Historical so the US properly join the Allies.

What should be changed in my opinion is the peace conference. If the only thing I want out of the entire Axis territory as a minor is to puppet Romania, I'd like to have more than a prayer to make it happen.

I play with expert AI almost exclusively now. Recently I wanted to try achievements so I disabled it and went vanilla. I couldn’t believe how much easier the game was. If you want a challenge with better AI and better division templates, give expert AI a shot.

Will try some of these other recommended mods next :)

Lately I've been spending most of my time with overhaul mods, and extreme ends of that spectrum at that with stuff like Old World Blues and such. Whenever a DLC comes out (Well, whenever I buy the most recent DLC that is) I do a few playthroughs with the focus trees added, and then go back to the overhaul mods. Even when doing that, I play the game with at least a few Achievement-compatible mods even in it's most "Vanilla" state. I don't know, the Vanilla game just feels too "flat" compared to modded stuff.

Really? i tried a france game with expert ai 4.0 recently and found it a ot easier than vanilla, mostly it seemed like the ai had made fewer divisions.
Annexing the axis in 1940 didn't really feel like it was worth the performance hit

Vanilla+Historical every time. It's mostly a stable experience, and the bugs generally are "small." (but if I have to see American Occitania one more time...)

I've tried Kaiserreich, but it just feels too railroaded for my tastes, and it's harder to get into the lore compared to IRL history.

I play vanilla with mods like the colored newspapers and mods like that. Nothing that changes gameplay. I play ahistorical mostly for the chaos but historical is what I've been playing mostly lately.

I picked up TNO.

When the following recipe:
  • be USSR
  • Stalin Constitution as first focus
  • start justifying war on Poland as soon as you have enough PP to do so
  • Purge as second focus
  • Complete Purge
  • Invade Poland
  • Conquer Poland
  • Justify on Germany
  • Declare war on Germany
no longer results in me getting crispy fragments of exploded game stuck in my hair, then I will consider coming back to vanilla.

I don't like mods that mess with the core gameplay. I use mods but they're small mods that are only graphical or just tweak a few things.

Road to 56 I guess would be the exception, but even that is basically just vanilla on crack.

For historical stuff I really like the Total war mod. It integrates most of Expert Ai, while having some country specific equipment and custom tech, but it's not too overwhelming like eg Black Ice.
Otherwise Kaiserreich, Old world blues, etc.

Honestly I bought Hoi4 at release and after 1h of play I was already downloading mods from the workshop. Haven't touched Vanilla since. I have 1.5k hours, all modded, mostly ironman. Zero achievements completed. :p
