That's just pragmatic, although I am confused by what exactly you got out of do this if the shit you inherited from this patsy what shit you gave him in the first place - it is actually possible to use a lackey as a shield against the dislike of other characters? Because I can't see what other use you'd have gotten out of this.

Probably a bit like the old trick of inviting geriatric courtiers with no family to your court and giving them baronies to hold until they die. Ideally you even marry them off first to women past their prime so they have zero chance of having an heir.

The net effect is a part time caretaker for your baronies, stopping you from going over your demesne limit while still having (eventual) control over the baronies.

I was high king of Eire, made him a vassal of man and Dublin. Fed him bits of Wales as I began conquering it. Married my daughter to him matrilineally. Made certain she bacame my heir. They had a child. Booted him out. Eventually died. My daughter took over. The two demesnes were united by the third generation. I'm not sure I could repeat this if I tried. I was not hated for having to big a demesne initially.

But mostly I was just rping a jerk...

1. In game, i always put prisoners under house arrest (raiders are always executed) and ransom/release adult prisoners after war while children are well educated and recruit/release after grown up.

But in a post HF defensive pact enabled ironman game, I (Persian Emporer) pressed my son's claim on Byzantine Empire, the whole world fought against me. Somehow i couldn't raise two newly granted viceroys' (both with several kingdoms) levies (gray button), so I need to rely on my decreased levies, retinues and mercenaries. I got frustrated when the war took several years as groups of enemy armies kept sieging my border and winning large battles only give a little warscore. When I finally had 100% warscore, I executed all prisoners captured (the "Off with their heads!" achievement popped up") before I enforced my demand. The whole war killed 4 enemy kings, 5 dukes, 10+ counts/commanders/courtiers and 20+ children.

2. In a recent game, a landed horse lord raided and assaulted two of my border counties when I was busy fighting others, I declared holy war afterwards and capture all his 4 wives, 7 daughters and only one 0 aged son. I put all his wifes and daughters under house arrest and executed the boy. The horse lord clan died out heirless after decades.

I have never seen any of my characters actions in CK2 as evil. Self serving, perhaps, but in my mind, the actions my characters took were not evil. They were justifiable and correct. I like to think I serve man and myself. Myself coming first, of course. :D

In educating captured children, I intentionally encourage them to be ambitious so that I can duel them (and mangle them).

Invite some average Joe courtier to my court, invite everyone to a plot to murder him, wait until someone spills the beans, cancel plot and duel the poor guy (so I can mangle him).

I did that to my own son. 80 difference in personal combat skill. He killed me. And I him.

I once capture the Sunni Caliph and all of his wives and children as Byzantine emperor, I remember there're totally 24 people.
I castrated all the male execute all females, and the Abbasid family were basically extinct.
And I remember I laughed when I see "You're a real piece of work, aren't you?".

I remember my first game in the new patch: joined warrior lodge, later invited my daughter. Couple years later, she said that she doesn't fit to that society, so I pressed her to stay. Not so long after she commited suicide.

Another playthrough, different character: my son had becme my rival, later my character developed depression and commited suicide by "duel" with his own child. Son had to live with "suspected murderer" modifier for 30 years just because his father wanted to die with honor:mad:

Two generations later, I didn't marry my eldest son and even put him in danger just to have second one with excellent stats to become my successor.

Just usual family things:p
