I base my arcument on experience of playing Victoria. I haven't test yet 1.03, but in this thread is said that there is no sicnificant change on version 1.02 and I do know what it was in 1.02. I think biggest broblem is that factories produce less in later versions than in 1.01.

You haven't played 1.03

Yet you refer to it as "masochism" based on a few threads? Don't you think thats a little unscientific? Particularly as I can point to as many "Great job!" threads.

I haven't had time to play this weekend, so I make no comment about the game. However, I would hope that you can see military access as cheesy.

I would have hoped that this, like tech-sales-fuels-my-world would be stamped out, but alas.....

Picture France allowing German troops to transit through Belgium and not doing anything about it

If a neighbour is at war and a nation allows access to that neighbour's enemy, than the choice of cancelling access or being forced into war should be presented to that nation.

If the game still relies on gamey tactics like this, then it might still not be balanced correctly.

Dinsdale,

I'm afraid you are putting things out of perspective here,

I asked Belgium for military acces in peace time,

France was at a certain moment bad boy with taking a quarter from Spain,

I kept maintaining good relations with Belgium,

after becoming Germany they didn't give up their military acces - they got 3 French provinces from me,

so what's wrong with mutual interests? Even the UK was on my hand,

:)

Garrr,

I think you should trust the engine, if you play for a little longer you'll notice why some things aren't working as you guess they should work,

for manpower =

- slider effect only has effect when you leave the ledger,
- slider has huge effect on mobilsing pops. Most often I go for the option=
- set defense budget to high - military budget to low then click
for mobilise. You'll get insane manpower and small divisions -
that can still be reinforced,
- this tactic can cost you a leg,

- not converting enough manpower. In my Prussian game I had the effect where I gained 0.01 manpower a month!

enjoy and come back when you enjoy the game - don't play dominion game:) ;) :D

All right I try the game one more time :) I really want to like the game...

(btw, Dominion 2 is really great game on a side note)

I will try one game on very easy and try some tactics that others suggested like capturing sulphur etc... And military access through Belgium haha !
I was also toying with this idea in one 1.01 game but then France's AI decided to leave border suddenly and to put all his divisions on Pas de calais... and I've attacked but it was in 1867. after I beat Austria (It was not easy on normal, but when I took Wienna in a last gamble they accepted white peace)... But, I didn't get Three Hurras because I started a was too early so this game was lost...

If you beat Austria now you get the option to form NGF (Zollverein) even as early as 1862 (in my last game I jumped them during Italian Unification war by defensively allying with France - sneaky huh!).

They wussed out of the war in 1867 when the German question came up :) But they did form the SGF

Waiting for those Frenchies now, von Moltke is straining on his leash after Denmark unified with Sweden and blocked the Northern war. They wussed on the Luxemberg question but there's still the Spanish succession to come....

Actually, IMHO, this makes quite a bit of sense, as machine parts are the vital underpinnings of the Industrial Revolution. Yes, it does make things a bit hard on non-industrial powers, but historically they were quite a far ways behind the curve. How long were you playing the Latin American countries without being able to get any machine parts? Also, you can get machine parts via techs & inventions, which can help kickstart the economy.

Well, it was around 1855 when I started to be able to buy those products...

Theoretically, in 1.03, other nations (that is, non-UK nations) can have operational Machine Parts factories in 1841 (as opposed to 1851 in 1.02), so machine parts should become available in larger numbers earlier in 1.03 than in 1.02

I bought them in 1843.
You must set an order right on from the beginning. My experience is that machine-parts are available in short waves. And you never know when the next wave to come ;)

Listen, many players are playing Prussia because it is more fun than playing some others (some could disagree here) - we have challenge and we can also changes some history along the way. But, read some books - "Franco-Prussian" war for example - Prussia had 850000 soldiers on 1st March 1871.

Figure how many divisons is that.

Now, try this on normal settings, or maybe I am not so good player...

Firstly, bear in mind that Prussia did what it did not only through military means, but also through superb diplomacy - Bismarck was an outstanding diplomat and the Prussian players must know how to fight one enemy at the time...

On the troop strength, what are you talking about? In my 1.03 Prussia game I have realistic armies (when I need them) all the time.

Tell me, do you know how to use "mobilization"?

(hint: you _can't_ expect to win an all-out war with a Great Power just with your usual standing army)

Oh, and I manage to keep my economy running in times of war, at which time I concentrate 100% in military matters. And 'debts' are unknown in peacetime.

I was just asking that does the economy in 1.03 be as worse as version 1.02 and is there any reason why I should change version 1.01 to version 1.03. And I am not making any scientific report about this. I don't need anything else than to prove me do I take or do I not take newer version. Just take it easy!! ;)

1. Gingston, how do you expect people to give you an answer when you frowen at them, tell them to shut up and declare them to be fools?

2. You're not the only one discussing things here....

PS. my 2 cents say that you should upgrade to 1.03, but they would also have recommended you to upgrade form 1.01 to 1.02. Take it for what it's worth :)

So, economy does't get any better in 1.03 than in 1.02. Can't ther just be something between 1.01 "too easy" and 1.02/1.03 "masochism"?

in a thread talking about 1.03 was a comment on the economy based on your experiences.

If you are asking is 1.03 like 1.01 - no it is not. But it does fix alot of bugs. You could make 1.03 somewhat easier by increasing all the factors in the db/economy/factory-efficiency.txt file by a factor of two which will get you back towards 1.01 degree of difficulty. Note that this has not been tested - its merely a suggestion.

Just read the whole thread...... :D

Some points from Dguller and Dinsdale are valid, though not gamebreaking(at least to me), but perhaps could be looked into to find some solutions for the future...

Gingston, I will be totally unscientific....

Shutup, download and apply 1.03, then comment.

See! totally unscientific, i promised didn't i? ;)

re Garrr

I think that Victoria is best game ever from Paradox but what have you done with 1.02 and 1.03 patches is too much - you are killing the game here...

Many people thnik that patch 1.03 is very good and for me even 1.02 was great, so maybe you should realize that many people have strongly different opinion in this case.

Many people have rightly said that playing with Prussia is ridicoulously hard, also there is more bugs (like no manpower and german culture...).

Why playing as Prussia has to not be difficult. This game starts (great campaign) in 1836 not in 1871 year.

I must remind you that playing games should be fun, that is rule no. 1 here. I want to have great time playing Prussia and capture few colonies or other countries like in HOI wich will add flavor to the game.

Prussia was much much much much more weaker in 1836 than Germany in 1936 year. If you don't like history maybe you shouldn't play Vic?

I don't want to micromanage all the time to get few $$$ in the game - that is boring and I know that you wanted to give players a challenge but you are killing a essence od good game design here.

Without this micromanagement Vic wouldn't be so great game, so it's your opinion as this is mine.

Some "fanboys" will disagree with me but playing on Normal difficulty for me is almost impossible, also player cannot enjoy game where economic struggle so much put in the first plan - we know that conquering is most fun here.

Don't blame other people who likes Vic in ver. 1.03 (I like it too). Vic is not only war game and I'm very happy because of it.

I would have hoped that this, like tech-sales-fuels-my-world would be stamped out, but alas.....

Playing as Russia, I beleive that when I traded tech for money, I would lose Prestige points so I limited the number of times I would do this. Correct me if I'm wrong and lost prestige in some other way.

As far as the railroads and increasing productivity, I found this worked as I expected. I understand that in the beginning (when I first got the tech) it would take me more time to build up the resources and know-how to build the railroads, however I think that this would have been true for a Country who initially discovers a tech to not come out at max production of railways.

Not only would there have been the cost and time to build the tracks, but also the engines and the cars required.

As for the economy, I think this is the first time I (version) that I haven't eventually been able to max out all of my expenses and remain with a tax >30% for each level. I find this more interesting and realistic, perhaps its just me.

Cloth is more available, even when I had a low prestige, so I don't have to keep shutting down my clipper factory in order to allow my cloth stock to build up again.

I think 1.03 is a lot more balanced than previous patches, and have only found a few things that irritate me, however I want to play a few more full games to see if maybe it's just my strategy, or if it is because I have only played as Russia so far.

:)
