This thought just came across me today, I thought it would make a good discussion.

When choices come up deciding which way your population leans, do you pick a choice because its your personal belief? Or do you plan it out and pick a choice so that it matches how you want to shape your nation and budget? Or do you roleplay sometimes and pick nations based on what your government would pick? :D

As for me...when the religion choices pop-up, I'm often selecting either pro-secularism or "God is dead!" It's almost an automatic thing with my atheism, it just comes to me. Plus - and excuse me for being corny - if I have to choose between the two I often pick pacifist as opposed to anti-military what with my dad being in the military and all. :(

I never find myself roleplaying. I always pick the options that upset the fewest number of POPs, and that ususally means Interventionism, secularism, and free citizenship.

I try to pick to pick the issue that will get the party I want ruling into power. If I'm autocratic and can just choose what party I want in power (or there only is one) then I think WWMD? (what would Memnon do?)

An interesting quirk when picking free citizenship, it seems to reset the militacy and consciousness of all POPs in the state to 0, rather than the -2 to minorities. Has anyone else seen this?

I tend to pick a mixture of the two.

I definitely gravitate towards;

Pluralism
Pro-Military

and I guess it doesn't hurt that those are two of the better in game choices too.

I tell you though, I wish I could find a protectionist, full citizenship party. I can deal with lassiez faire...but no tarrifs? OUCH!

Out of personal belief i alternate between moralism and pluralism on this issue, even though getting my people atheist would help me get a party in power that would benefit me I just can't bring myself to do it :)

Apart from full citizenship which i always pick as well, I alternate between all the other choices dependent on game situation.

Somehow, I always find myself playing countries that only have one party available. Hmmmm...you are what you rule, eh? ;)

Jingoism/Pro-Military, as I usually keep army maintenance low, but military spending high (at max, if possible) to get the Manpower to reinforce my divisions and by the way get the prestige for a high military spending. I hate pacifists! (in Victoria)
I don't really care about the rest, depends on the country I'm playing.

I agree. Lazzie faire, Pluralist, Pro Military, Full citizenship, and universal sufferage.

I go as far as to prevent Darwin, Woodrow Wilson, Kant, and G.F.W. Hegel. At he same time, I encourage the Carl Menger, the Austrian School, Impressionism, etc. Though I might take a tech bite, I get interesting results: lots of capitalist, lots of clergy, no socialist/communists/anarcho-liberals, and a strange number of reactionary.

i tend to consistently choose the same option in multiple choices..
like 'religion is a personal not a public issue' say..
i'm always a bit stumped when the boxes come up because I can never remember (or haven't checked) which particular set of issues I would like to promote, in order to get a 'helpful' government in.
That is one of the times that I wish choice boxes didn't freeze the interface
