Yet another NF war goal issue

As Germany I finished off the Allies in 1940, and took Malaya as a subject. 18 months later Japan attacked because of the NF tree, even though we've signed the Tripartite pact and are guaranteeing each other. This is two months after Japan attacked the Philippines, meaning I'm now in a war against Japan on the side of the remainder of the Allies (the USA and the former UK dominions).

I kind of saw this coming though, and tried to get a NAP with him beforehand, but he was having none of it. I needed one more point in favour. Not sure if that would have even helped.

I also made a backup save a month before just in case. Anybody have any ideas on how to get around this? Anything I can do to not get him to DOW me?

Improve relations can get you up to +10 when the AI considers anything, that might do the trick, but 1 month may not be enough time to get relations high enough.

Yeah, I was doing that but we were already at 100 relations.

The diplomatic situation in case it helps any...

To avoid this in the future, perhaps diplo annexing both it and puppet Britain if you set that up? With the CIC you should have at that point you should be able to do it between 40-41 if you lend lease convoys and stuff too. A bit gamey to be sure, but given the state of diplomatic options in the game its the best choice to avoid war IMO.

True, I should have annexed them by now.

I'm looking forward to the day we have some more diplo options in the game.
