The -3BB event is for administrative republics, not monarchies. But there's a few other events you could eventually blame for not quite making it

• the one time Diplomat advisor event giving a 6 BB reduction as well as the 3 BB event kebzero mentioned. Both require a 5* diplomat.
• temporary insanity with a 4 adm king -> 1 BB
• a spymaster could give you papal infiltration -> 5 BB
• submission of the clergy (negative relations with the Pope and having reformed/protestant provinces) -> 1 BB

I belive I read somewhere that if you kill off the pope (and any reborn papal states) so the papal state no longer exists, then you can as curia controller excommunicate any catholic country at will
(and can then declare war on them without the stab hit (and less BB gain for declaring))

But I havent tested this.

I doubt PrawnStar will use such a technique. He even limits himself to monarchies and not releases pagan nations.

All, I've been heavily RL'd this week - crazy, crazy work related stuff on my mind. I have no idea if the next three months will see my job offshored or my role changed or I get laid off or I get promoted

Update hopefully tomorrow along with usual feedback.

A couple of things though;

• nothing too gamey, cunning yes, gamey no
  
• Also the AI will consolidate further, there's no way I'll need to annex all the OPMs
  
• Finally, I don't think the maths will go in my favour but hey lets see what happens

Starfury - I was pretty down when I saw those numbers but if I don't try we'll never know.

anweRU - Interesting numbers. I'm hoping that DOWs and border disputes even out. Both the Ottomans and the Horde are very good at converting provinces

Malurous - Consolidation will happen as will diploannexations - I hope to do about 10 more DAs before game end, maybe more if I'm lucky.

Tmac - There will be no non-French colonisation. I'm controlling map spread very carefully to prevent that possibility.

enkhuush - True, low BB WC requires the prevention of AI colonisation. I hope you get the chance to update a bit more often

elbasto - Steady expansion with a lot of colonies and I've converted a lot of pagan provinces. I've also had a few culture flip events in France and Africa.

I intend to guarantee/warn just about everything.

About OPMs at the moment the plan is only to annex those which will not get consolidated so Ceylon is an annex target while Korea isn't.

Despotic Monarchy remains a possiblity probably late on during the final push to 1821 if I need to annex a couple of OPMs.

Starfury - Interesting to see there are possibilities - you'll see a couple of these during the next update.

Gyathaar - That would be useful for Denmark. I expect that guaranteeing the Papal State is all I need against Venice. The other Catholics are reasonably small and look likely to get annexed by the Horde - latest Horde gains include Osel and Breslau

praxiteles - The Pope is very useful left alive, any Italian major always seems to repeatedly DOW the Papal States.

Chapter Forty Three​

A new King – August 1650

I’m just under 15.00 / 15.00 This isn’t all bad, that admin score opens up some possibilities.

I’ve been waiting for an Admin 8 King for over 150 years. I can now do this…

Which means this decision is available if I can get a statesman…

This King at Diplo 5 is a bit under par so I convert him into a general – 6 shock so he’ll do a lot of damage before he dies. Also, I get the chance to swap my 39 year 2* diplomat for a 28 year 2* diplomat.

The world remains peaceful until May 1653 when the Ottomans declare war on Venice triggering a French warning. BB is 8.12 / 15.00 at this point.

As I’m at war anyway I DOW Maya, they’ll pay 2500 ducats for peace in August.

The war with the Ottomans is going nowhere fast. Otto armies are generally speaking better than mine, especially in cavalry so I’m getting hurt. I quickly peace out before the Venetian frontline breaks under the pressure.

Peace with the Ottomans – November 1653

BB is now 7.72 / 18.00.

I immediately DOW 3 province Ethiopia, the aim is force-vassalisation. BB is 8.72 / 18.00.

Late December 1653 I DOW Brabant, BB is 9.72 / 18.00.

War with Brabant

Peace with Ethiopia – February 1654

Hamburg will accept peace days later handing over 200 ducats. Luxembourg has a different fate ahead.

Peace with Luxembourg – February 1654

This is followed shortly by peace with Brabant in April 1654

The point of this peace deal is to push Brabant out of the Dutch provinces and into ‘Danish sphere’ north Germany. BB is 9.92 / 18.00.

NW Europe

I’m trying to keep a slow advance only diploannexing those countries that look very unlikely to be annexed by another AI country.

By February 1656 BB has fallen to 5.52 / 18.00. It’s time to go back to war.

War with the Golden Horde – February 1656

BB is 6.52 / 18.00

The Dissolution Act requires a Statesman, when one arrives in April 1656 I replace my 34 year 2* Diplomat straight away.

The three BB lost would take that diplomat 30 years; hopefully I’ll be able to replace the statesman before then. BB is 3.12 / 15.00.

The reason to this as soon as possible is that this decision requires you to be three points Centralised, very difficult for a country that diploannexes. I’ll stop caring about Centralisation now and diploannex as many vassals as I can – remember the house rule only one attempt at a time.

Talking of diplomatic annexations…

England annexed

BB is now 6.12 / 18.00.

Weeks later I get a Boundary dispute with my OPM vassal Luxembourg. I accept the relationship damage is easy to overcome while the core on annexation is very valuable removing most revolt risk and making the province pay well from the first day of ownership.

Peace with the Golden Horde – August 1656

The Horde had redeployed it’s armies from the western border and progress had all but stopped so I made peace for five provinces. Imereti was a core – no I don’t recall that happening but it cuts the price of peace by 1BB. The keen eyed will notice the two Russian OPMs on the 1650 map have gone, annexed by the Horde.

BB is now 9.36 / 18.00.

10th March 1658

This event gains me a 6BB point reduction. I need some BB, fast, very fast…

At least that's a way better situation to get that event than how I got it just yesterday, BB at zero due to a lengthy regency and still no chance to DoW because it was still in effect Here you can just DoW whoever you think can't be had any other way.

By the way, is it really smart to diploannex Luxemburg now? Wouldn't saving the diploannexation for someone coreless be more efficient or am I forgetting something?

Instead of diplo annex could you actually just use patriot rebels to break the territory towards you? I know nationalists form a seperate nation, but patriots attempt to rejoin either their culture group or a nation possessing a core. Actually, could you consolidate most of the OPM's in germany and Italy by doing this?
