some brainstorming
An 1870-1920s era game would be interesting. A unified Germany and Italy, the declining Autrian and Ottoman Empires, the recent emergence of the Japanese Empire, rapid colonial expansion. The bloodiness of combat during that time period would make diplomacy critical. Big factors in the game would be:
- Colonization (of course)
- Alliances (of course)
- War weariness
- Tech/tactics (of course) during this time we saw the evolution of modern tactics (small unit tactics and recon from the civil war era line formations) and of course intro the age of dreadnaughts
- Fortresses (WWI slaughter assaults)
There were numerous major wars throughout the globe during this time so any country played would have MUCH TO DO!!
- Spanish/American war
- Russo-Japanese
- Zulu wars
- Afghanistan (Brits and Russkies)
- Italians in E. Africa
- Boer wars
- dozens of south american conflicts
are to name just a few...
There was a great board game about this period called "Pax Britannica" I think Victiry Games made it but Im not sure. This might make a good model for it, but of course the AI with diplomacy would be the hardest part. Think the EU engine would work well for the mechaics though.
Any thoughts from the peanut gallery? Paradox?
