I like it too. It is not as if there is anything important with the date. It is just there as a timer.

Sorry, it's not moddable - it's hardcoded. And I'm pretty sure even Paradox won't change it because the EU3 engine they're using needs to count years upward, for the scripting system - so it would take some serious changes to implement BCE, if it can be done at all with this engine.

You would then have to hack the .exe so years count down.

This would screw up the entire scripting system. All the history files etc etc are written with set years, which have to go upward.

With BC date system i can much easier follow the same growth expanding like it really happend and with the avc i have to calculate it which is annoying like this game aint annoying enough right now with all its governs appointing all the time.

You annoyance is unimportant. We want to play a Rome game not a Jesus Christ game. Hence AVC represents Rome and B.C. represents JC. Let us say that the next dating era is Armaggedon or a Nuclear Holocaust and in 150 years they use the A.A. (After Armaggedon) and B.A. (Before Armageddon) form of dating.

Why the hell would we today count of our dates as being 100 B.A.? We don't because it hasn't happened. Same goes for B.C., the game doesn't use Before Christ because to the people of the world we are playing, CHRIST doesn't exist.

If they went through all the bother of coding a new game, I'm certain it would be simple enough for them to switch to code to BC if they'd wanted to... But, well, the AUC system is better suited for the game :) . It'd be a bit weird for everything to be dated relative to an event that hadn't happened yet.

Is this the new "fix colonization!" subject, though? I've seen three topics on this in two days. If so, might I say that it's a bit of an odd one, relative to previous complaints :) ?

Shut ur big mouth impertinent yank, everyone who paid for this has a right for there opinion and withouth the people who paid for this the game developer would be forced to stop there prodution and therefore my and everyone else's annoyance is of important.

Well, when I play a historical game, I'd like to know what year it is, without having to calculate it every time. I don't particularly care whether people who lived more than 2000 years ago would understand todays conventions.

And I don't think it would be as hard to change the date (for paradox anyway, don't know about modders), since afaik the game wouldn't have to count downwards, you could just do the calculation for the date shown in the interface without changing anything else.

@up your calculation is wrong mister ;)
it's really easy to change avc to bc in your head,so where's the problem?Maybe problem is with lazy Rome players? ;)

As someone else wrote (in this thread or another on the same topic), if you're going to do auc you might as well use the roman calender and roman numerals. Then the player can really have fun.

I just don't see what that feature adds to the game.

edit: And so what if I'm lazy, I just crushed Egypt. What do you mean that my calculation is wrong, btw

In HoI2, if you play as Germany, all of your units will be in German, with names like 'III. Armeekorps.' Would you suggest the entire interface be converted in German as well, then?

The feature adds simplicity to the game, chiefly. In addition to other mentioned reasons, the game counting down would be extremely bothersome if you wanted to either make an expansion taking the game into the early empire period or wanted to make a mod set in AD.
