If a ban on public religious ceremonies such as Church Processions is compatible with democracy, then the Portuguese republic was democratic.
1910 is within the Vic timeframe.

Can you please tell me where did you get that from? I never heard about it.

I read it in a special issue on conservative parties in the Journal of Contemporary History in the late 70-ies.
